PersonalityEdit

Abel is, at first glance, an unassuming and pathetic priest with a distinct sweet tooth and seems impossibly hard to take seriously whatsoever. And, if he had his way, you'd think no more of him than that - he'll gladly chat you up for hours regarding just about anything - the weather, local news, how nice your shirt looks, oh my what a pretty sunset...! all the while never truly revealing much of substance about himself or letting the conversation get too serious.  He can seem vacant and flighty, but it's all a facade hiding something much more than one might expect.

At 977 years old, "Father Nightroad" is actually a genetically enhanced clone - one of four - injected with "Crusnik" nanomachines which, upon activation, transform him into a vampire eating vampire.  They alter his appearance and behavior, acting like a sentient parasite that's only purpose is to kill and destroy.  The more he uses Crusnik, the less he's able to resist its pull, the temptation to fuse to 100% and become a slave to its will calling to him. He considers Crusnik a "mark of his sins," a side of himself he hates showing anyone and prefers to use only as a last resort when absolutely necessary.

For all his light-hearted banter and warm smiles, Abel utterly and completely loathes himself. He has no self-respect and considers himself a monster; if he hadn't been given a purpose in Caterina Sforza's accidental discovery ten years ago, he would likely still be locked away from the world in his dead lover's crypt.  He tells her he can't not protect humans; it's his duty to keep on living, to protect humanity and undo the damage he's wrought in his past.

He loves the world and the people in it; he hates seeing suffering and sacrifice. If there's something he can do to ease someone else's pain, chances are he'll go to great lengths to do it. In the same breadth, he can be a selfish and childish creature.  Even when he knows it causes those who trust him pain, he'll very rarely if ever be truthful about both his past and his "other self;" he fears to damage the friendships he's made and frighten those who've put trust in him by showing them what he truly is.  And, more than anything, he is almost constantly doing battle with his conscience that tells him he doesn't deserve their trust, their friendship, at all.  So, chances are a great deal of his interaction with the world will remain superficial and shallow; he'll befriend you, lend you his shoulder, fight by your side - but the chances he'll genuinely let you see who he is are slim to none.

Abilities Edit

Crusnik are, in effect, a parasitic machine that feeds on the bacillus in a Methuselah's bloodstream as a fuel source. They are normally dormant; when activated, they transform Abel in various ways depending on how much of their power he exerts. Abilities include:

• The appearance of black wings, which can function as a shield (strong enough to repel laser cannon fire from a battle airship); they are capable of flight, and also are sharp like steel and capable of cutting (they cut the limbs off of a vampire in canon in one clean slice)
• Other physical changes (claws, fangs; his eyes glow red, and his hair becomes suspended upward to float on a current of energy)
• Drastic increase in physical strength, speed, and senses (stronger/faster/more sensitive than a Methuselah's, which are typically 10x a human's)
• Acceleration or "haste," moving one's body so fast it seems they've teleported
• Producing bio-electric currents capable of ionizing particles ("spark-gap" - can cut, with electricity) or bursts (like lightning)
• Formation of a scythe from a hammerspace in his body
• Rapid healing factor (the more well-fed he is, the faster the regeneration); his blood will eat any fallen appendages, limbs or damaged organs in order to feed it back into the body and repair itself
• Blood as a weapon (it forms tiny tentacle-like strings of blood with mouthes which "eat")
• Telepathy from Crusnik to bacillus (any Methuselah will be able to hear him speak to them via the nanomachines, mind to mind)

Cons & Weaknesses:

• Crusnik are sentient - meaning they have a mind of their own; they try to coerce the user into giving in and allowing them to possess the host, which would mean an irreversible fusion between them and end disasterously. Abel would be lost to their will - become a killing machine that wants the destruction of everything. Thus, lower levels of activation are best. The more he uses them, the more dangerous it becomes.
• If not well-fed on bacillus, the nanomachines may not be strong enough to function and deactivate or be unable to regenerate the wounds of the host.
• Alternately, if fed too well, they may be too powerful and their will may have more influence over Abel's actions.
• If beheaded, he'll go into a "stasis" to recover (which will take time; likely days). During this period, he's extremely vulnerable.
• The more emotionally unstable the host, the more sway Crusnik has, the more dangerous it is to use them.
• Using the nanomachines extensively puts a huge taxation on his body. The more he uses them, the longer he uses them, the worse it is for his body -- and weakens him, a weakness that will stay even after he's deactivated them. Thus, he'll be very reluctant to activate them unless absolutely necessary.

As of August '10, Abel has taken Crusnik 01 and 04 from his brother, Cain - which means he has two additional sets of nanomachines in his system. Due to the strain, his body is slowly deteriorating over time, but the jump in power is immense. Due to limited canon information about the powers of these strains, the exact number and strength of the abilities he's granted is vague, but it's safe to assume they mostly deal with the formation of plasma energy (01) and energy shields (04). He can also pass through solid matter, though which strain this ability is attributed to is unclear. As with 02, the nanomachines need to be activated for him to tap into these powers. These were removed as per his canon update.

Paradisa Edit

Some things of note:

• Took Crusnik - the sentient nanomachine technology - that had all but taken over his brother's consciousness and turned him into a monster, away from him. This killed him... but he returned Crusnik-free and happily intact!
• Proposed to Lilith!
• ...And then married Lilith, October 7th. <3
• ..........And then Lilith left. :( :( :(
• Made great progress in his relationship with Caterina over the course of their history in Paradisa. She opened up about her disease and loving him; in turn, he told her who he really is and she's gotten over her childhood crush. He's still her knight and will always be her knight. (This is a little depressing, because he realizes she's dying in their world, and he'll likely never know because he's fucking retarded and she's hiding it.)
• Learned that Seth.... dies in the future and loses 03 to Cain. ;(

Losses Edit

• Abel has had one temporary loss, known fondly as the "lost puppy loss." He followed a few people around, believing that they were the first human he was encountering after leaving Lilith's crypt and saving / helping them in various ways. The most notable was him helping Reno open a stubborn jar of olives. Helping humankind... one jar of olives... at a time.
• Famiree loss! Abel had a little family of his own - Sora and Ken were his children, Lilith his wife and their mommy. Much adorable was had.

• His permanent loss was his ability to use more than 40% of the nanomachines' power; it's now Lilith's image. If he is not looking directly at her, he'll be unable to recall what she looks like / can't see her in photographs/drawings etc.

Trivia Edit

• Abel is a secret perv. Men and women are both fair game to silly/stupid flirtatious jokes, but he isn't serious about any of them. Despite this, IS A VIRGIN WHAT HAHA NOT ANYMORE Abel you dog... ;D
• Takes 13 sugars in his tea.
• Feigns illnesses quite often.
• Is 977 years old. The current date in Trinity Blood is 3064 AD. Headcanon birthday is March 8th.
• Wears Lilith's rosary, always. (Lent it to Joshua!!!!1)
• Has a vegetable garden that tends to die whenever he goes on missions.
• ...Has a tarantula Claire gave him upon leaving Paradisa. Y u do dis, Claire.
• Named one of the ducks in the duck pond Esther, and takes it in during the winter... months... what even...
