Background//Personality

The first thing to note is that Aziraphale is an angel, although perhaps not the traditional angel. Oh yes, he does still have the big white wings and the ability to perform miracles as one might imagine... but he’s also the owner of a second-hand bookshop in Soho, and sort-of-kind-of-not-really best friends with a demon.
His job in long times gone past was to guard the Eastern Gate of Eden, it was quite a nice job and he had a big flaming sword to help him do it. Of course, this all went horrendously downhill when a demon called Crawly (now renamed Crowley) tempted Eve into taking a bite of that forbidden apple. Unlike some people, he doesn’t believe God overreacted. After all, one cannot hope to understand His plan, and in all His ineffable wisdom it must have been the Right Thing To Do to cast Adam and Eve out of Eden.
However, as much as he trusted His decision to cast out Adam and Eve, he had thought it a crying shame to leave them alone in a storm when Eve was expecting. So Aziraphale had given them his flaming sword, and then told everyone else he lost it. Whoops. Aziraphale is very committed to doing the Right Thing, a little too committed some might say, but then he would remind them in a very polite and mild-mannered tone that it was just his inescapable nature as an angel.
Thousands of years pass, and Aziraphale has been noted to have gone ‘a little native’; enjoying sushi and classical music, as well as entering an Arrangement with the aforementioned demon. Being who he is, and therefore utterly concerned with doing the Right Thing, he sometimes feels a little guilty about this Arrangement, which basically constitutes a strange sort of pact and alliance.

Added by Prof ryokie styles himself as a middle-aged British man with a slightly plump figure (although he will look mildly offended if his rotund appearance is brought up and deny he’s any such shape). His sense of aesthetic taste seems permanently stuck in the 1950’s, and he has a huge weakness for classical music – even if Beethoven’s 5th sometimes include vocals by Freddie Mercury.
His collection of second-hand books is his pride and joy; and, like any true collector, the bookshop is only really a means to store said collection rather than sell them. In fact, he goes to great lengths not to allow any customers a purchase, keeping quite erratic and unsociable hours, as well as glaring at anyone who does actually dare to turn up during opening hours.
He is sweet and kind in his own way, almost over-the-top polite and sometimes quite Victorian in his terms of address. You’ll never hear him swear or curse, and he has a penchant for calling people ‘my dear’.
Canon Relationships
Edit
Anthony J. Crowley - Well really, where even to start? Crowley is, without a doubt, Aziraphale's best friend. He doesn't know what he'd do without his demonic counterpart, even though he feels endlessly guilty about fraternizing with the enemy... He loves the range of topics he can discuss with Crowley, and that he has an eternal drinking buddy in him. He knows there's a spark of goodness deep down inside, and he'd not trade that for the world, even though he knows it gets his friend into trouble. Their Arrangement is the cornerstone of his life now... without Crowley, Aziraphale is fairly sure he'd enjoy life a heck of a lot less. Never leave him, bff ):
Newton Pulsifer - Aziraphale quite likes Newt - in the same way he quite likes patting a random cat that he sees in the street. He finds the man good natured, but ultimately tiring and rather too easily swayed by other people. He feels a tad guilty for manipulating him and Shadwell, along with Crowley, but really what else would you do with a Witchfinder Army? He wouldn't

Edit
Arthur - IT'S KING ARTHUR IN THE FLESH!!!! He's almost giddy as a schoolgirl to be allowed to catalogue the official biography of this legendary man.
Barbara Gordon - His helper in his store, quite a useful woman who understands sales are such things to be discouraged.
Castiel - Crowley's... special friend. He's sure he should feel more against their relationship, but he honestly doesn't mind that much. Although, he is keeping a close eye and making sure this angel doesn't hurt his friend.
Coraline - Coraline is his little library friend, he loves to see a child with such a love for books and he's happy to help fuel that love. He was concerned to hear about the Beldam, and if she ever arrives in Para, he will be first to protect her.
The Fifth Doctor - So much Britishness should not be contained in one place; it surely won't be long before they're breaking into 'tally ho' and 'spiffing'.
Ianto Jones - His Welsh friend has popped up several times, always with something useful to tell him. They have debated the details of James Bond's wardrobe habits, and communicated via shoe-brush and polish.
Jesus - IT'S JESUS! Aziraphale is entirely unsure how to act around him, mostly because he's guilty that his best friend is a demon and he's fairly sure that's frowned on. ): But he's all ready and able to support his Lord if ever needed.
Jilly Coppercorn - Such a bubbly young woman, although she doesn't seem to have the right amount of respect for opening hours.
Mohinder Suresh - Such a pleasant geneticist! They have shared tea and a round of mini-golf, certainly a chap he likes.
Question - Saved his life through a miracle at the end of the Berserk plot, although things got a little awkward after that.
Sora Koudou - Awww likke Sora. He doesn't usually have many child friends, as they mess up his bookstore, but he can't help but love the little guy. The abuse he's suffered speaks strongly to him, and he'd miracle it all away if he was allowed - but as he isn't, he'll settle for beaming so many angelic vibes at him that he might become an angel himself.
Tam Fox - Quite a pleasant young lady to spend a round of mini golf with.
