"...We'll worry about that when the time comes. Even if I lose my body, my heart will still be free. So I want the world to become a happy place, just like my heart desires." "You're amazing, Colette. I could never be like that." "...No. I just talk like that. If it really came down to it, I'm sure I couldn't do it. Hehehe, I'm a pretty pathetic Chosen."
It would be easy to assume that you know everything about Colette when you first meet her. She is sweet, simple, hard-working, and too kind and gullible for her own good. Generally, she is easily amused and entertained; mostly because of her love for all people and things around her. When she meets you, she wants to know everything about you. When she sees an animal, she wants to name it (and pet it at a certain point in time). Her early childhood was a sheltered one, and there are still a lot of things that she wants to learn about, and experience. At the same time, she is easily flustered, and has a tendency to apologize for things that aren't even her fault. In a way, loving everyone around her goes hand in hand with this trait. After all, if she runs into someone, it must be her fault, because she can't understand that someone else would intentionally do something bad.
A major character trait that is also easily noticeable, is the simple fact that Colette sees the good in everyone and everything. She assumes the best of people, and trusts their word without question. This can get her into trouble sometimes, but most of the time there are people who are looking out for her, and protect her from the worst of her own mistakes in judgement. In a similar vein, it is also obvious that Colette is a bit of a ditz. She's sheltered, and while well intentioned, there is still a lot that she has to learn. It's seriously a talent how fast she can go from saying something deep and insightful, to sounding like a complete and utter dork.
However, hidden away from most of the world, is a very lonely girl who very much wants to find her place in the world. Because she was born as the Chosen, Colette lived a very interesting childhood. While she was revered, and respected by the adults in her village, it was a very lonely existence. Maybe because some people knew that she was going to die, they distanced themselves form her. Either way, Colette spend most of her childhood feeling isolated, and wanting nothing more then to play with the other children. Luckily for her, she met two kind and caring boys who became her first friends, and taught her a lot about the world, and herself.
Because of this loneliness, Colette cares intensely for her friends. She is not afraid to sacrifice her own well being or happiness for them, and ultimately values their happiness above her own. Considering the way in which she was raised, it's really not a surprise that Colette is a person who will readily sacrifice for others. She spent her entire life thinking that she was going to die, so that the world would ultimately be happy. Instead of cursing her fate, she used that as inspiration, and grew up valuing the needs of those around her. While she has matured incredibly over the course of the game, it's hard to unlearn years and years of a certain thought process. Yes, Colette values her own life more then she ever has, but she is still prone to thinking of others first.
Along with this, she's prone to keeping a lot of things bottled up inside. Colette is a stubborn, strong willed girl, for better or worse. She might seem like a pushover to a casual observer, but there are many things that Colette is passionate about, and she is not easily swayed from her convictions. While she loves helping others, she doesn't want to burden others by asking for their help. It's extremely difficult to gain Colette's "trust" in the sense that she will ask you for help when she truly needs it. If she can, she wants to solve her problems on her own, without causing trouble to anyone else. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Colette hates not being able to do anything for those around her. If she has a friend that's in pain, or suffering, it pains her if there isn't any way that she can help them out. Until she finds something, she will tirelessly search for some solution.
She especially has problems now that her role as the Chosen has ended. A question that she often asks herself is "what is my purpose in this world?" and slowly but surely, she's coming to understand that her role is simple, and what she truly wants to do. Even stranger is the simple fact that Colette has suffered, she has suffered at the hand of fate and other people, but even still she can always search for the good in others and unconditionally love the world around her. She is here to help others, to bring them happiness, and live the life that she never thought that she would get the chance to live.
Colette was born and raised in Iselia, a small community located in the north-western part of Sylvarant. When she was born, there was a Cruxis Crystal, a kind of Exsphere, in her hand, signifying her as the seventh Chosen of Regeneration in Sylvarant.
Her adoptive father, Frank Brunel, raised her in the village as his own. Colette's grandmother, Phaidra, was the priestess at the Martel Temple, which is located just outside Iselia. At some point during the early years of her childhood, Colette was taught how to read angelic language. As she got older, she was introduced to the clergy, some of whom she would later meet during her Journey of World Regeneration. She also met the priests who were meant to accompany her on her journey. She then started her formal education at the Iselia schoolhouse, where she met Lloyd Irving. She and the young Lloyd soon became friends.
When Colette is sixteen, Cruxis sends down another Oracle. Colette, accompanied by Lloyd, Genis Sage, and the mysterious mercenary Kratos Aurion, enter the Martel Temple to answer the summons of the angels. At the highest level of the temple, Colette's "real father", the angel Remiel, arrives to convey the blessings of Cruxis and bestow the Tower of Salvation upon the land of Sylvarant. As the game goes on she unlocks more of her powers from her father's angelic side. This marks the beginning of Colette's Journey of Regeneration, a perilous journey in which the Chosen must release the "Seals" that are scattered throughout the world. There are a total of five Seals, the fifth being at the Tower of Salvation, where the Journey would end, Colette would be sacrificed, and the dying world would be regenerated.
She leaves the village of Iselia under the protection of Kratos and Raine Sage, her teacher. As she is leaving, she acts, in Genis's words, "overly cheerful" in an attempt to hide the fact that the Journey of Regeneration would end with her death. Trying to cause her trusted friend Lloyd the least amount of grief, she lies to him about the time of her departure, in the hope that he would then be able to live in the regenerated world. Her bluff fails, however, and Lloyd and Genis later catch up with her. As the party moves from one Seal to the next, Colette begins to gain more angelic powers, like wings, enhanced sight and improved hearing. However, she also loses the things that make her human, like the ability to taste food, sleep, or even speak. Eventually, the party reaches the Tower of Salvation, where Colette is forced to make the final sacrifice: her heart and memory.
Having lost all those things that made her human, Colette is the perfect vessel for Martel, her mana signature being the closest possible to that of Martel. Remiel says, during the ritual in which Colette sacrifices her heart and her memory, that he is not Colette's father, and that the "inferior beings" only called him her father because he placed the Cruxis crystal on her. Colette reveals to Lloyd, through some non-oral form of communication, that she somehow knew this, before sacrificing her heart and memory and becoming unresponsive to the rest of the group. Remiel reveals that he seeks to become one of the Four Seraphim, showing that he cared little for Colette, or even the world, and plans to dispose of the group, but they fight and kill him. Kratos then arrives and reveals that Cruxis plans to transfer Martel's consciousness to Colette, denying that it will cause Colette to die. Before Cruxis is able to put Martel's consciousness into Colette's body, however, she is taken to relative safety by the Renegades. Lloyd and the party are later forced to flee to the parallel world of Tethe'alla, taking the soulless Colette with them.
Colette regains her senses after Lloyd carves a Key Crest into her birthday necklace (he completed it the morning that she left, but it breaks some time between then and the night after the Fire Seal is broken). She apparently remembers everything that happened while she was unresponsive, as she knows Zelos' name. As the journey to reunite the worlds continues, Colette is kidnapped by the rogue Desian Grand Cardinal Rodyle, who plans to use her in his Mana Cannon. His plans are foiled when he realizes that she has Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium, a rare disease that crystallizes the body. The party rescues her, but does not realize this until later; Colette believes that his referring to her as "sinful" is a reference to her failure to perform the world regeneration, something she feels guilty of despite knowing that it would only bring about what Lloyd describes as "a false peace."
Colette's disease is introduced gradually, starting with mild discomfort and leading to her collapsing in pain in Ozette shortly before Rodyle abducts her. After Forcystus shoots her when she shields Chocolat, it reveals that she has begun to crystallize. The party then searches for a cure, learning about Mithos the hero and Mithos' splitting the world into two with the power of the Eternal Sword in the process. Colette is cured in time after the party escapes Welgaia.
Colette is captured in the Tower of Salvation after Zelos betrays the group. When Lloyd reaches the Great Seed Chamber, although he is reunited with his friends (whom he had thought dead), Mithos succeeds in merging Martel with Colette. Martel, however, uses Colette's body to urge Mithos to stop what he is doing. At this time, either Zelos or Kratos arrive in the Great Seed Chamber and place a Key Crest on Colette's Cruxis Crystal. After Martel's consciousness leaves Colette, the young Chosen urges the group to stop Mithos from moving the Great Seed to Derris-Kharlan, having understood Martel's desires. In a skit after the group leaves, it is revealed that Colette was able to understand Martel's feelings while she was possessed.
At the end of the game, Colette returns home to Iselia, and reveals that she is no longer the Chosen. Colette is a very mature young woman. She was brought up with the knowledge that she would need to die to save the world, and has gained from that a truly selfless nature. However, she later recognizes that she made a mistake in her willingness to sacrifice herself, believing in Lloyd's ideas that no life is born for the sole purpose of dying. As such, her greatest wish at the end of the game is to ensure that no one else makes the same mistake she did.
"But my eyes have actually gotten better. I can see really far away now. And my hearing, too. I can hear even the faintest sounds really well. I can hear them so well that…it’s kind of painful sometimes."
Colette can fight, contrary to what people might think when looking at her. She possesses a Cruxis Crystal, which is described as "Cruxis Crystal is an evolved form of Exsphere which promotes the dormant powers of the body even further than of the latter mentioned gem." This crystal gives her incredible strength, senses, wings, and access to powerful light magic. Aside from that, she's been trained a little bit in weaponry (enough to survive her Journey of Regeneration). She uses two rings to fight that are called chakrams and she holds one in each hand, and can access many powerful techniques linked to them. However, despite all this power, Colette is held back by one very important thing.
She's not a fighter. While she has been trained a little, she's lacking the experience and practice that makes warriors truly great, and deep down inside, hates to hurt others. So while her strength extremely high, she's very slow, and has poor reflexes. She's also very frail, which makes her a bit of a glass cannon. However, she's still an extremely potent fighter, and with practice and a cause to fight for, she's a formidable force.
"My grandmother told me that I could never return to the village once I left on the journey to regenerate the world. So when I talked with you the night before leaving Iselia, I thought it would be the very last time. But I’m still here, right beside you."
Lloyd: When Colette was a little girl, she was extremely isolated. While she was 'treasured' by the adults and treated differently because she was the Chosen, she didn't have many friends. Maybe they were intimidated by her, maybe she didn't have a lot of free time, either way we know that Colette was very lonely when she was young. But then, one derpy boy who was raised in the woods by a dwarf and his half-elf best friend did something amazing... they actually talked to her. Lloyd and Genis were her first friends, and Lloyd was something even more than that. He's strong when Colette is unsure, determined when she waffles, funny when she doesn't know what to say, and comforting when she can't find the words to describe what she's feeling. But even more than that... Lloyd is the only person who calls her on her crap. When Colette tries so hard to hide what she's feeling and put others first, Lloyd can see through her lies and understand what she's really feeling. He supports her, holds her up, and easily shatters any walls that she tries to build around herself. He's easily the most important person in her life... someone that she adores and wants to be like. When she first arrived in Paradisa, she couldn't put a name to that feeling, but with three years of sorting it out she knows that she loves Lloyd. She wants to stay by his side forever, and help him just like he helped her. She doesn't plan to admit these feelings, because it wouldn't be fair to him to peruse a relationship here. Instead, she's just satisfied with spending as much time wiht him as possible.
Zelos: In her mind, Zelos is what a Chosen should be. He's confident, good at talking to people, and savvy with the ways of the world. She knows that many people admire or envy Zelos, but... she feels bad for him in a way. Because she knows what it's like to be the Chosen, and she knows that his life must have been filled with so much suffering. She doesn't know the details of his life, but she knows that it must have been hard, and she recognizes that while she covers up her feelings with apologies and fake laughs, Zelos does it by being a jerk. So... she just wants to give him whatever support she can, even if it's not much. He's very important to her, and she wants to do her best to make sure he's happy here at Para!
Yuan: Her weird not!Uncle who lives in the woods 3: But in all seriousness, Colette feels a great deal of fondness for Yuan. While he was kind of, you know, trying to kill her Colette doesn't hold a grudge. She understands that in his own way, he was just trying to protect the world from Cruxis, which she admires him for. She worries about him constantly, especially now that Kratos is gone. She feels a slight bond with him, and admires his strength and conviction that he's held all these years. She can imagine how painful it is to be alive for so long, and because of that wants to make sure that his time here is filled with some joy. So she does whatever she can to make him happy.
Joshua: In a way, Colette feels like she's gotten to know two Joshuas, two Joshuas that make up one person. First, there's the current Joshua... Joshua when the cursed demon horns are on his head. He's somewhere between a small child with too much power, and a cold blooded killer with no regard for the people around him. The other Joshua is kind, caring, guilty and full of self loathing. For a long time, Colette had a difficult time understanding her feelings for Joshua, but she's come to realize that she deeply cares about Joshua... no matter what he's like, if he has the horns or if he doesn't. She simply cares about Joshua, even though she understands that feeling probably can't be reciprocated. Their relationships has gone through many stages... When they were first introduced, he thought that she was his sister, and he treated her with an almost frightening level of affection and devotion. As he attempted to become closer to her, she tried to distance herself without upsetting him... but that illusion couldn't last long, and he soon discovered that she wasn't really his sister. All of that 'love' suddenly turned into rage, and he said that when he found her, he would rip her apart limb by limb and then freeze her that way for eternity. When she fled to the Dead Zone for safety, he threatened to kill her friends unless she returned, but luckily Abel, Clark, and Yuan intervened before that happened. Then Colette was finally able to meet the other Joshua, the kindhearted boy whom she had heard so much about. At first it was strange, but the two quickly formed an even closer friendship, and she essentially now views him as her brother in many ways. Of course, this couldn't last, and the horns were returned to him. However, their relationship is different now, a blend of the two previous ones... While he's still dangerous and volatile, it seems that he's forgotten the reason why he hated her in the first place. So for now they've struck a strange kind of truce. Colette still cares about him deeply, and still views him as her 'brother'. So... even if it means putting up with strange moody fits, she wants to make him happy while preventing him from hurting other people. She considers him her responsibility, and plans to take care of him to her last breath.

Allen : Another shonnen hero type. Allen is pretty much one of the kindest guys she's ever met. She really just thinks he's sweet, wonderful, and a person who really truly cares about others. Even if he can be a little derpy sometimes, and a bit too formal, he's one of her best friends here... It's also really scary how much they're alike sometimes 3: Back in the day she used to sleep over at his room occasionally, just so she could help take care of the terrible demon that's in his body. Times have changed, but she hasn't forgotten that he trusted her enough to share that secret, and that means a lot to her. Overall, he's just a dependable wonderful friend, and she would do most anything to make sure he's safe and happy.

Asuka: A girl who can say harsh things at times, but Colette thinks she doesn't really mean it. She saw a memory during memory week about her being ignored by her mother, but Colette doesn't want to bring it up unless she gains Asuka's trust enough that she would tell Colette about it herself. She cares about her a great deal, and wants to help her gain more faith in humanity.
Uru: An absolute sweetie!, Colette loves her positive attitude and enthusiasm for everything. While she still doesn't know much about her, they were turned tiny for a bit, and bonded while adventuring back to the castle. She's constantly inspired by her kindness, and has way so much respect for Uru.
Django: A really nice, classic hero type! She likes him a lot, and wants to get to know him more. But she already considers him a friend.
Peter: He's extremely smart and witty, and sometimes the things that he says go right over Colette's head. However he has a good heart, and she really enjoys talking to him. She also caught him when he was sad and dealing with someone going home, and she tried her best to cheer her up. They're very different people, but Colette cares about him a lot. He's a good guy, and a good friend.
Courage: He's the most adorable pink dog in the whole wide word! He was also her bro while they were in the Navy. Since then they've talked and they're both in the

Sylvanas Windrunner: Alleria's sister! Kind of grumpy and very serious, but Colette can tell that she has a good heart! She enjoys talking to her and wants to get to know her better.
Vereesa Windrunner: Also Alleria's sister and a total sweetheart. Colette really enjoys talking to her, and already considers her a friend!
Natsuki: They were bros during the Pirate plot, as they had both been brainwashed into thinking that they were Navy crew members. However, despite the fact that they were not themselves, Colette really enjoyed talking and getting to know Natsuki, and that sense of camaraderie is still there. She enjoys Natsuki's dry humor (even if she doesn't always get it...) and hopes that they can become good friends.
Stocking: Another Navy bro who can be... a little scandalous sometimes, but that stuff tends to go over Colette's head. She can tell that Stocking has a streak of good, and she feels just... loyal to her? She likes her, and wants to help her how she can.

Ino: A ninja who is very brave, and Colette admires very much! She doesn't know her that well, but cares about her just the same.

Minato: They've know each other for a long time now, and Colette thinks very highly of him. He's very sweet, if quiet, but Colette doesn't mind that. Sometimes she worries about him, so she keeps an eye on him to make sure things are going well. She was also very impressed with how he was a wonderful leader on the spider expedition!
Alleyne: A very striking elf woman who enjoys gardening! Colette would like to learn a bit about gardening from her, and she would be happy to get to know her better.
Peter: A very kind man who took the time out to cheer her up after the Pirate plot. She really appreciates what he said to her, and hopes that she can say something kind in return to him someday.

Fenris: A very angry and impulsive man that Colette hopes she can get to know better. And hopefully she can find out what's making him so mad all the time :(
♥ ??????
Sir Legato: He's a man that Colette doesn't know very much about, but they met in the Library when he used his mind powers to make her drop some books... She didn't realize it was him though, and they have since talked a little. Colette thinks of him as a friend, and want to get to know him better, although she knows that something is not quite... right with him. SHE DOESN'T JUDGE.
Tykki Mikk: He seems like quite a dapper gentleman, but he shows a bit of disregard for human life, which makes Colette a little nervous. But still, she would like to know him better.
♥ DislikedIf anyone gets on this list, you are a horrible, horrible, horrible person >:(
Here are two examples of her Englishvoice from the first game, and here is an example of her voice in the second game. Since she's been here nearly two years, she's around the age she is in the second game, so she'll probably sound more like the second clip :). Just for fun here is her Japanese voice from the second game, and here is her voice from the OVA (which is probably my favorite version).
Here at Paradisa, Colette has a doggy named Biscuit, a kitty named Pawsies, an Arcanine named Growly, and a dalmatian named Splatter. She got both Biscuit and Pawsies for Christmas 2008 (from Basil (her secret santa), and Yuan respectively), and Growly during the Pokemon plot. Biscuit is a very bold dog who believes very firmly that he is in charge of their family. He is fiercely protective of Colette and her other pets, but he isn't always friendly to other animals (mostly because Colette wasn't very firm when training him). But he is a sweetie at heart, and unless you're hurting his family his bark is what you'll see, rarely his bite. Pawsies is a cuddly cat, and loves to sprawl on your lap and soak up attention. She can also be a little fussy, mostly because Colette spoiled her as a kitten. Lastly Growlie is the most mature of her pets, he lets Biscuit take the 'leadership', but in a time of real danger he is ready to pounce. He is also incredibly loyal to Colette and will probably rip your face off if you mess with her :) but most of the time he's very friendly, and very warm! Splatter is a fun and playful dog that Colette got to know while Yuuri was still in the castle, so when he left she took the doggy in. She pampers him like crazy, and while sometimes Biscuit picks fights with him, either Colette or Growly are there to sort it all out.
Something that I'm not entirely sure about is the inner workings of Colette's crystal. We know officially that the key crest makes it so she needs to eat food, can still sleep, can feel things, and has her soul. On the other hand, she still has her super eyesight, hearing, strength, wings, and angel spells. The big question is, does the crystal still halt her aging? That is something we don't know, and it doesn't really matter in a place like Paradisa, but it's something that might be in the back of her mind. Most likely, she will still age, but considering what we know about the other angels, it's also a likely possibility that she will be stuck at the physical age of sixteen.
