personality.

Alealejandro.png

Cross is a loud and dominating man, to be blunt. He can, and is clearly successful, at being a pain in the ass to surrounding characters, especially to Allen Walker. When he wants something, he wants it right then and there — wine, women, cigarettes, whatever. He is known to sleep around, drink, and gamble without limits, racking up overwhelmingly large bills for either Allen or the Black Order to pay off. He has no qualms about how much of a hit the Order takes for covering his spending sprees, and does not care if Allen can or cannot take care of his debts.

The loud, fun side of Cross disappears when he is in battle. Instead, he becomes a rude, sarcastic son of a gun (no pun intended). Both allies and enemies receive his crude, scathing remarks. Smack-talk is always in the air when Cross is fighting, and he rarely shows any other emotion outside of morbid hilarity. He is verbally abusive, and really only holds his tongue around the ladies.

Oh, speaking of ladies~ Come one, come all! Cross loves all types of ladies — except if she is a Noah. Then not so much. Every time Cross sees a female — especially an attractive one — he will make sure to toss her a line. It could be a compliment, an invitation to a dinner, or even both! The occassion does not dictate whether he does it or not. He has complimented Lenalee Lee during the middle of a fight with a higher-level Tyki Mikk, and sat close and familiarly with Klaud Nine in Headquarters, much to her annoyance, and with Allen nearby being followed by Howard Link.

DASMONEYHONEY.png

Cross is also very vain. His appearance is important to him, and whenever there is a tear in his coat, or his boots gets stained, he essentially throws a "classy" temper tantrum. And by "classy," he simply confronts the culprit who ruined his outfit and shows them no mercy. During the Order's first encounter and battle with a Level Four Akuma, Cross becomes that much more serious and deadly when he realizes his coat is riddled with holes, tears, and smears of dirt. In an earlier battle, he points out to Lavi that he only allows "filthy women" near him, and nothing/no one else. He prides himself on having an impeccable and clean appearance.

Cross unleashes 95% of his verbal and physical abuse on Allen, who is an unwillingly recipient. In the past, Cross has smacked the boy around and shoved Judgment into his face, holding off on pulling the trigger because of Timcanpy. A mallet the castle has returned to Cross has been used several times on Allen — usually to knock the poor boy out if Cross needed to make a getaway and not have the younger Exorcist see where he disappeared to. Also, "Idiot Apprentice" is Allen's nickname. Even after about five years, Cross will simply not retire the name. Has the name potentially become something fond for Cross to call Allen?

Yeah, no, probably not.

Cross has also traumatized Allen that have caused negative effects on the boy, such as getting him drunk (and now he is allergic to alcohol); making him attempt to retrieve a mountain lion while in Kenya (and further reinforcing Allen's fear of lions); and Arystar Krory's plants trying to eat Allen during a mission (said plants were given to Krory's grandfather from Cross). But, through all the trauma and abuse, Cross has come to have a soft spot for Allen. Good luck getting him to admit to it, though.

abilities.
Cross is a man with many talents. He has several ways to take care of an enemy — now, how he decides to take care of said enemy depends on his mood. Fast and easy, or slow and torturous? (And by "torturous" he is simply going to talk a lot of shit and frustrate his opponent with his taunts.) It varies depending on his mood and who, or what, exactly he is facing.

JUDGMENT

Personashadingwatisthis.png
Judgment is Cross's anti-Akuma weapon. It is an equipment-type Innocence. Because Innocence conforms to fit the abilities of its user, it is assumed Cross is, or was, some sort of marksman/sharpshooter before his days in the Black Order. Judgment is a large caliber revolver with its barrel on the underside. He can fire off several bullets rather quickly, and the bullets never miss their target. It is as if the bullets are programmed to embed themselves within the target's body. Once the bullets have hit, a cross-shaped symbol will appear. (And yes, barriers are included in this, too.) These bullets can also cause a target to swell up to unreal, and rather grotesque, proportions within a short amount of time. This essentially disables the target and leaves it open to more offensive maneuvers.

Cross can also utilize Judgment as a bow and shoot off an arrow. Called Arrow of Original Sin, the arrow takes on the shape of a demonized lion of sorts around the General and the Innocence. A cross symbol appears in front of it momentarily before it is released to take down its target. Just from the sheer size and intensity of the attack, it can be presumed that he only uses this attack on higher-level Akuma, as well as stronger opponents.

GRAVE OF MARIA

Justdancegunnabok.png
At first, one might think they are hallucinating. A good rub of the eyes, a light slap of the cheek, and then they look again. But nope.gif, this is not a hallucination. Yes, that is a large casket a few yards ahead, and said casket not only appeared from the ground, but it is wrapped in chains, too. Ominous? Maybe.

The casket hosts another Innocence Cross wields, but it certainly does not belong to him. No, this Innocence belongs to the female corpse within, and she is referred to as Maria. She was a former Exorcist whose, under unknown circumstances, came to be in Cross's possession. Considering how deceased Exorcists are cremated, it is eyebrow-raise-inducing to figure out just how Cross was able to gain control of her. Either way, the Black Order certainly is not happy with him doing it, and it is stated that he is using "forbidden magic" to control her and wield her anti-Akuma weapon. (It goes without saying that he gives no fucks about what the Black Order thinks about his doing this.)

Maria's anti-Akuma weapon is a parasitic-type, resting within her body. One ability, called Magdala Curtain, utilizes her voice, and she sings to create illusions. These illusions help conceal the presence of others in the room that the Exorcist's opponent may be gunning for and causes the opponent to believe they have simply vanished. Another ability, called Carte Garde, allows either Maria or Cross to control someone's movements via their brain. Cross has used it on Allen Walker to stop him from fighting the Millennium Earl in a fit of rage. Cross has also evoked Carte Garde on himself, using Maria to move his body for him during a fight when he was otherwise incapacitated.
SORCERY
It has only been demonstrated several times within the series, but it is assumed that Cross is a master of sorcery. He has utilized it to summon the Grave of Maria in battle before, but otherwise it has been kept under wraps. It may tie in with his disguise as a Skull, shown before he reveals himself to the Exorcists in the Ark.

AKUMA CONVERSION

Cherrycherryboomboom.png
The Millennium Earl is the only being on Earth who can create Akuma, but any member of the Noah Family can give orders to Akuma. Cross, even though he is not a Noah, has demonstrated the fact that he can take an Akuma and make them work under his orders instead of the Earl's/Noah's. But, there is a catch. Any Akuma that feels the urge to go back and obey the Earl will self-destruct. This is another issue the Black Order has with Cross — to destroy an Akuma via any means that do not involve Innocence causes the soul within the Akuma to be lost forever. The self-destruct switch goes against the principle of purifying Akuma that the Order has hammered into the Exorcists.

Currently, it has not been shown how Cross controls Akuma. It is theorized that his sorcery, or Maria's Carte Garde, may be why he can perform such a deed.
