Personality Edit

As described above, Eridan is a bit of a tool. By which I mean, a massive tool. As a result of his status in troll hierarchy, he thinks it's pretty much okay to be a massive jerk to everyone below him. He also regards trolls as being the greatest species ever, so other species aren't safe from his superiority complex bluh bluh bullshit. In fact, it's a pretty easy system to work out. If you aren't Feferi or the current Empress of the troll race, fuck you and your status as a lesser species. He'll take any chance he gets to remind others of his higher status. Maybe it's his 'biological superiority', or perhaps his title as the 'prince of hope' or, well, any reason really. In the end YOU SUCK.

However it's not all bad. Despite his overwhelming ego, he can befriend people. Naturally, though, it takes a lot to put up with him, plus he'll repeatedly hide the fact he considers these people friends when around others and said friends aren't in the vicinity. It isn't like he doesn't like them, or consider them friends, it's just him afraid people who've put up with his intolerance for other species and friendship might find out, then question him about it and how he's being hypocritical. The fact is if it happened, he couldn't handle it. Eridan has a very bad pokerface, so if confronted directly about emotional theatrics from his part, then his facade crumbles easily and he tends to break down and lose it.

In fact, he'll generally hide most things about himself in order to protect himself. He has an image to maintain, one of superiority and general loathing of other races, but it isn't truly how he feels, just a way he feels he needs to act, partially because he's constantly trying to live up to the image of his ancestor Dualscar, trying to follow in his footsteps as a great troll. Granted he may or may not be doing it exactly the way he should be, considering noone is really one hundred percent sure what the guy was like, but he has a general idea from historical texts, he's built up an image around that and it's who he's trying to be; the only problem is the guy he's trying to be is a massive prick and needs a reality check. Unfortunately, that probably won't happen anytime soon AND IT'S A BIT LATE CAUSE HE'S D-------EAD. Of course his attempts at hiding things always end badly for him because he fails at that too.

He has a fascination with history, especially dramatic tales of great conquests, epic battles and military intrigue. As such, he attempts to model his life around the drama and suspense these tales hold, which is a major problem in the long run of things. He tends to be incredibly dramatic, making the smallest of problems into the biggest of deals, or making everything he does overly grand. As a result of this people who interact with him on a long term basis will find he's more often than not complaining about one thing or another or just being his usual old intolerable self. He wants everything to have flair and suspense behind it, but the problem is in average and everyday situations it just doesn't work and can be incredibly overbearing. People don't like it, he gets frustrated with this, noone likes him. Story of his life.

In truth though, he seems to be aware of how stupid he acts all the time. When he heard Sollux died the first time, he completely changed his tune and lamented the fact his overly theatric behavior was just utter nonsense. He admitted that compared to what Feferi was dealing with, his feelings were trivial and meant little by comparison, and the fact he was bothering her with them, or at least trying to, seemed to upset him. He also completely lost his egotism once she ended their moirallegiance and rejected his love for her he went into a bout of self loathing and put himself down, saying he wasn't better than anyone, but was in fact lower than everyone else. This was probably just his overemotional theatrics again, but considering his behavior after Sollux died it's possible there was some genuine self loathing going on even then.

Overall, Eridan is a surprisingly complex troll for one who appears so shallow on the surface. His attempts at following in the footsteps of his ancestor have lead him down a bad road, because of which noone wants anything to do with him. His isolation from the other trolls has made him bitter and lonely, being berated and put down by others because of his needlessly dramatic behavior which causes him to raise the emotional barriers even further and lash out at everything, which drives people further away because they can't put up with his nonsense. He longs for companionship, but his own behavior is what fucks up the chances in the first place. You can't really feel bad for him because a lot of his circumstances are the result of his own actions, but at the same time it is a little sad. Just a little.

TL;DR he'd be a better guy if he calmed the fuck down and got a few friends

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

As a troll, Eridan is a bit tougher than the average person.

Firstly, trolls are shown to be a lot more durable than humans, considering Tavros survived falling off of a cliff, although he did break his legs, and Vriska managed to survive having her arm and part of her face blown off, eventually getting prosthetic replacements. Karkat also says calcium based skeletal systems are inferior to troll biology, implying they have something much sturdier, so Eridan's probably pretty sturdy too.

Trolls also either recover from wounds quicker or have some kind of natural regen, as Karkat's wound in the land of pulse and haze recovered pretty quickly and trolls are stated to grow back their teeth once they're knocked out. Again, not a huge deal, since it's more like accelerated recovery than actual regen, but worth noting.

Finally, Eridan is a sea dwelling troll. He can breathe/live underwater and, despite the fact he stays on land quite often, is presumed to be a good swimmer too.

Natural genetics out of the way, Eridan is also probably kinda maybe skilled in fighting. He isn't some kind of masterful combatant or something, but the fact he did spend a lot of time FLARPing with Vriska, which was incredibly dangerous often times fatal live action roleplaying, along with the fact trolls are by nature a warlike and violent race, he's probably not completely hopeless and has some pretty good instincts.

He's also skilled in the handling and use of weapons of the RIFLEKIND status. This pretty much falls into the category of any two handed, medium sized gun. Before the Sgrub session even started, he was proficient enough to use the STRONGEST WEAPON OF IT'S KIND, Ahab's crosshairs. This is both stated to be and shown to BE ABSURDLYOVERPOWERED He doesn't have it in Paradisa, as he abandoned the weapon after he got something better. Aradia has a copy of the weapon which she obtained after the first time Eridan showed up in Paradisa, and kept it after he left.

As previously stated, Eridan obtained something even greater than the Ahab's crosshairs. He has power similar to Rose's, specifically white magic as a complete contrast to Rose's own Dark Magic, which he developed and matured due to his connection with the Angels of his session's home planet. He was only shown able to use these powers after he obtainted the EMPIRICIST'S WAND, and it's implied his powers aren't reliant upon the wand itself, but he needs it to use them in any case, probably cause of some subscious shit idk. In any case, his white magic powers allow him to levitate and unleash incredibly powerful blasts of magic. This wand is so powerful that Ahab's crosshairs doesn't even compare, to the point that said crosshair's could not defeat Sollux's telekinetic powers yet the wand easily overpowered him. The power difference is a huge between this and the gun.

RelationshipsEdit

Canon Relationships

Feferi Peixes: Good gog where to start. Presumably they met when they were really young, got along great, Feferi helped build the guy's confidence and was really nice to him. Eventually they became moirails, and Eridan believed their relationship was reliant purely on him needing to be kept in check. As he grew more and more paranoid she would leave, his actions became more and more exagerated until he declared he'd wipe out every single land dweller. Once Alternia was destroyed, she didn't think she had to worry about that anymore, so broke off the relationship because of the emotional strain it put on her. Distraught, and without a moirail to quell his highblood induced rage, he slowly descended into madness and ended up wounding/blinding sollux, and killing Feferi and Kanaya. All in all though I think had not been overcome by his madness and wasn't so impulsive, he wouldn't have killed her or Kanaya. I think he'd regret what he done. Not that it matters cause his loss was all of his memories of her so he don't give a fuck. Paradisa wise, he's nice and polite to her, well to the best he can be, but only because she's the empress to be. He also likes talking to her a lot moreso than just because she's the empress, but really doesn't understand why cause castle shennanigans.

'Gamzee Makara': In terms of canon stuff, he can't stand the guy's bullshit about magic and miracle nonsense and finds him aggravating, but considering Gamzee puts up with his bullshit maybe he likes him a little. Just a little. He spoke to him for about twenty seconds in Paradisa then never saw him again.

Equius Zahhak: He'll do anything to provoke this guy and constantly pisses him off, but in all honesty Eridan quite likes his company, even though he'd never admit to that. The fact he respects all the highbloods but not him kind've pisses him off though. He'll act like Equius is insufferable but he'll take any chance he gets to talk to the guy, even if it is nothing but argument after argument after argument.

Vriska Serket: Ex-Kismesis, a hate based relationship on Alternia that is between two rivals who hate each other, but also care for each other. Basically fuck them up without killing them. He may have liked her or something, but Vriska was just following in her ancestor's footsteps by having a blackrom with her ancestor's kismesis Dualscar's descendant Eridan. Eridan could've been doing the same, but considering he still tried to contact her and tries to make Kanaya convince Vriska to talk to him, he probably genuinely wanted it to continue and did like/hate/WEIRD TROLL STUFF her.

Terezi Pyrope: Never interacted in canon, she probably platonically hates him as much as the next person? They've spoken once or twice in Paradisa, but both times it was very very very bad. She called the cops on him while they were human kids on earth for an event for breaking and enterin and he's still pissed about it.

Kanaya Maryam: Very close friend. He said if he ever killed all the land dwellers he'd never kill her. THOUGH HE KINDA DID ANYWAY She also auspistices between him and, well, a lot of people cause he definitely needs it considering how much he pisses off everything with a brain. If she shows up in Paradisa he'll do his best to apologize for what happened, though he'll probably fuck it up.

Nepeta Leijon: In terms of canon it went pretty badly. He tried hitting on her, and it was described as his 'worst rejection yet'. She also states in the story she finds him really creepy. Paradisa wise she's willing to forgive him, although stated it'd take time, so Eridan's hoping to make amends somehow.

Sollux Captor: He blames Sollux for everything, which is just losing Feferi, but he'll blame him for anything he can. Everytime he even thinks of them getting closer and talking, things like that, he just gets really pissed. Don't mention it to him, he'll explode. He probably hates Sollux more than anyone...but it's a really irrational kind of hate, so he can forego it sometimes depending on circumstances. Paradisa wise, well, they've called a truce to cut out all the argument. Yet to be seen how long it lasts though.

Tavros Nitram: Never spoke to him in canon, spoke to him...once or twice in Paradisa. He's a lowblood and Eridan doesn't really think much of him, so chances are they'll be aquaintences at best.

Aradia Megido: They never interacted canon-wise, but upon entering Paradisa she was the first ONLY troll not to immediately hate on him for killing Feferi and Kanaya. Overall she was generally nice and polite to him and they got on as well as anyone speaking to Eridan can hope to, so he's got a pretty good impression of her so far.

Karkat Vantas: He went to Karkat a lot for romantic advice in canon, though he rarely actually took it from him like he should have, and they formed a pact of sorts and kind've became friends? That went out the window the moment he went on his little murdering spree and Paradisa wise things haven't gotten any better from the looks of it.

Jade Harley: Relentlessly hit on her several times. Bad feelins all around.

Dave Strider: ...seariously wwho the fuck is davve

Rose Lalonde: He was interested in forming a blackrom with her at one point, also TOTALLY engrossed by all that crazy black magic shit she had going on. Not only were his feelings unrequited but she kinda blew up his computer ending the conversation. Ended up telling Jade he wasn't interested anymore BITTER MUCH AMPORA and then well that's it. Paradisa wise they've spoken a few times and all in all it's generally the same. Cba with each other but end up running into each other quite a bit.

ParadisaEdit

Kanji Tatsumi: Really great guy so far. From day one he told Eridan to cut out the elitism/dramatic bullshit and pretty much figured out Eridan's egotistical highblood act was a complete facade. Since then they've got on really well and are even Moirails, though neither of them are actually aware of this. It just sorta happened. Eridan's a lot less aggressive around him, holds back on the insults(most of the time...................) and relies on him quite a bit. He's been trying to convince Eridan to genuinely open up to people and stop being such an egotistical prick, but so far no luck with that. Maybe one day. Also if anyone ever hurt him Eridan would flip his shit and DESTROY whoever was responsible. And maybe everyone within killing distance too.

Toothless: He's a pretty awesome dragon. Maybe it's because he can't talk but Eridan never gets any shit from the guy for how he acts, so he feels he can be a little more relaxed around him and usually tries his best to be pleasant to him. He also let Eridan tag around with him on friday the 13th and he felt a lot more secure having a dragon by his side, so he feels he's reliable too.

Marquise Spinneret Mindfang: BLUH WHAT A BITCH really he spoke to her on the day he got to the castle and he has regretted it ever since. Now they keep running into each other and everytime they do she's just such a fucking hassle to deal with. Still he never tries to avoid her, is occasionally the one who contacts her and never cuts conversations short for the most part. She got kinda pissed at him for surprising her once when he got his wand back off of her, and she destroyed his cape with her sword. it's a good thing you're too old for him mindfang or man there'd be black feelin evverywwhere
