History
Edit
Leto was born in the Tevinter Imperium, to a slave mother, as was the norm for elves in the country. He lived a fairly normal life, though, playing with his sister, Varania, while their mother worked. Then one day, to win his sister and mother’s freedom, he competed to have lyrium burned into his skin and to become the living weapon of Danarius, one of the worst slaver mages in the Imperium. He won, and his family were freed from slavery, and Fenris' life took a decided turn for the worst.
Sadly, Fenris remembers nearly none of this. The process of infusing lyrium into his flesh burned away all his memories. Danarius renamed him Fenris his ‘little wolf’. Fenris lived for years as Danarius’ slave, killing when commanded and being subjected to horrors he's forever unwilling to talk about. He watched his master murder a boy for his blood, in order to use blood magic to impress party guests. Hadriana, Danrius' apprentice, took great delight in tormenting her master's 'pet', denying his meals and hounding his sleep. Fenris never saw anything wrong with this, slaves in Tevinter being raised to know that was as good as their lives were going to get and wishing for anything better was pointless. He was made to believe he was worth nothing, something he never questioned.
During a battle between the Tevinter mages and the Qunari, Fenris was left behind on Seheron, as there was no room for a slave on the ship which came to rescue the mage. Fog Warriors tended to Fenris’ wounds and he spent a few months living with them, learning their culture in the process. Eventually Danarius returned for his 'pet’, but the Fog Warriors refused to give Fenris up. Danrius was injured in the ensuing battle, and ordered Fenris to kill all his saviours. He did this without question, still pre-disposed to Doing What He Was Told. He regretted it and used the opportunity of an injured Danrius to flee.
He lived on the run for three years, eventually finding his way into Kirkwall. Here he ran into Hawke and the gang after they accidentally became involved in a trap by Danarius’ soldiers to recapture him. After seeing off the soldiers, Fenris squatted in the old mansion Danarius had fled, and joined Hawke’s group for he felt he owed them and he hoped they could help him become free at last.
He had many an adventure with them, and three years later was hunted down by Hadriana, sent to reclaim Danrius' lost property. She fell in battle, and begged for her life in exchange for information about the sister he'd forgotten he had. Fenris took the information, then broke his word, killing Hardiana. He later confessed he wished he could have let the woman go, but the hate and anger he had towards her because of her torments was too much to ignore.
He put all his efforts into finding his sister, Varania, finally finding her living as a tailor in Manrathos. It took plenty of convincing, but she finally agreed to come to Kirkwall to meet him. Eager to reclaim his lost past and perhaps find some semblance of a family, Fenris went to meet with his sister in the Hanged Man. Unfortunately, Varania turned out to be a mage, with aspirations to becoming a magister, to be apprenticed by Danarius. His meeting with her was a trap, and Danrius came out of the shadows with soldiers in order to take Fenris back to Tevinter and back into slavery. Fenris and the gang fought back against the slavers, and Fenris finally killed Danrius, with the very powers the mage had forced into him all those years ago. It’s at this point, before he can deal with his traitorous sister that he is pulled into Paradisa.
Personality
Edit
The first thing you’ll notice about Fenris is that he’s very, very angry with the world. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as that. His treatment at the hands of the Tevinter magisters, and especially at the hands of Danarius has left him bitter and resentful towards everything and everyone. For years, he placidly lived his slave life, freedom and the wish for it never occurring to him. The incident with the Fog Warriors was a turning point for him. He learned that he COULD have a better existence, and that he was worth so much more than being Danarius’ attack dog for the rest of his life. After murdering them at Danarius’ command, he felt regret, which stirred up years worth of repressed anger and hatred.
He’s aware that he’s a slave to his own hatred (and the irony of that fact) but he can’t let go of it. He wishes he could, but as he doesn’t remember who he was before the lyrium, hatred is all that he has. It was only by joining Hawke’s group that he started to gain friends, however much he tries to deny them or push them away. He’s prone to excessive bouts of brooding, but when questioned about it, he’ll always insist that he’s ‘perfectly content’ and he doesn’t brood at all.
One thing he is absolute about is his hatred of magic and mages. Magic has given him nothing but pain, and he’s seen the very worst of people wield it. He’s aware that not all mages are evil, and many have good intentions, but he stands firm in his belief than they are only too susceptible to falling into dark magic.
That said, he is learning How To Be Normal. He’s quick to apologise when he realises he’s in the wrong about something (even when it might take some convincing to get him there) and when he gets especially snappy at someone who doesn’t deserve it. He’s also prone to a joke, once in a while, but he cracks them with such deadpan humour, they’re often missed by less sharp witted companions. Once in a while, he’s even been known to laugh. Quick to anger and just as quick to ask forgiveness, if you can get through that spikey armour of his, and deal with his constant bluntness, he’s a worthy ally to have.
Abilities
Edit

Fenris: Does it curse you with the ability to reach into a man and tear out his insides?
Carver: Uh. I can make it bark.
First up, Fenris is in the warrior class. He fights at the front of the battle, and is usually the damage dealer of the team. He gets right into the heat of things and hacks the crap out of his enemies until they’re dead, basically. He only wields two handed weapons, which I’ll get into a little bit further down. I’m not going to list EVERYTHING he can do, just the more obvious things to others, but I’ll provide links to each talent tree.
Fenris’ specialisation, which are the powers granted to him by the lyrium markings burned into his flesh. Lyrium is, basically, pure undiluted magic, and prolonged much the same effect on elves and humans as radiation does to people from earth. It’s HIGHLY volatile, lord knows how Fenris has it in his skin without dying horribly. They do, however, cause him a lot of pain.
Lyrium Ghost/Specter - He fades into a wraithlike state and becomes difficult to track on the battlefield. In this mode he’s also semi intangible, so he can pass through things. It’s while in Lyrium Ghost he also do:
’That Magical Fisting Thing’ - Fenris can pass his hand into his enemies body, either torturing them with mass pain by messing around with their organs or simply...pulling their insides out. He likes to take hearts the most.
Spirit Pulse/Flux - Fenris flares with dark energy, lashing foes with a blast of spiritual force, using it to stun them.
Deflect - His tattoos begin to negate hostile magic attacks. Not completely, but still.
Veneer of Calm, Battle Tempo and Inner Reserves - Veneer of calm increases Fenris’ attack damage with every wound he gets. Whereas Battle Tempo and Inner Reserves increase his attack speed and stamina respectively every time he kills an enemy.
The rest of his ‘abilities’ are not magically related, and are instead part of his training as a warrior. These are skills he WON’T lose in situations where powers are lost and so on. I won’t go into detail here, because it’s basically ‘beat the shit out of things’ but I’ll link to the talent trees again, should you wish to see the silly names they’ve given to them.
These are Fenris’ main fighting moves for his weapon set of choice; Two Handed Weapons. Greatswords, double-headed axes and massive hammers. Basically really big and heavy weapons.
These are Fenris’ offensive and defensive skills respectively.
These are the skills Fenris uses to work as a cohesive unit with others, while also granting him the stamina to fight alone if needed.
And finally, these are the skills Fenris brings into play when he’s trying to control the aggression and attention of his enemies, leading them away from allies who might be struggling in a fight.
Other Things
Edit
- Fenris’ sword is a Blade of Mercy. It’s pretty damn big and packs a mean punch. He wields it for the sake of irony, as it is a weapon given to warriors who have especially served the Imperium. This is what it looks like. Yes, it IS bigger than he is.
- He’s only semi-literate. Slaves aren’t allowed to learn how to read, and it wasn’t until Hawke offered to teach him that he even bothered picking up a book. He’s been learning for three years now, so is still remedial at best.
- Despite this, he’s got a talent for languages. He speaks Teviner, Qunari and whatever the hell the universal language of Thedas is. He also has a good ability at understanding other cultures. He picked up the Qunari way of life after living with them for just a few months.
- He’s a tentative Andrastian. He’d given up on religion during his time as a slave, but meeting Sebastian made him reconsider. He doesn’t put all his faith into the Maker, but he’s starting to at least put a little faith into religion.
- He does NOT like his lyrium markings to be touched. Ever.
- A NOTE TO ALL WHO CAN SENSE AND USE MAGIC – They can ‘sense’ the power of the lyrium in his markins. It’s even described as something which ‘sings’ to spirits. Make of that what you will, all magical characters have my full permission to sense him a mile off!
Relationships
Edit

Canon
Edit
- Anders – ANDERS Y U NO DIE?!!! A mage with a spirit living in his head who fights for mage rights. Fenris hates Anders with the fire of a thousand burning suns. And it’s very much mutual.
- Aveline – Guard captain and all round prude and busy body. She makes it her job to tsk at the others when they fail to uphold the law (which is a lot). He’s good buddies with her second husband, Donnic.
- Carver – Hawke’s younger brother. A warrior who keeps trying to bond with him over tattoos and other manly things. Fenris isn't impressed.
- Danarius – His former master and the bastard who pretty much ruined his life. Danarius branded Fenris with the lyrium and used him as his little slave pet/bodyguard for years. Fenris killed him at home, but he's shown up in Paradisa to make his life a misery.
- Hawke – The leader of their motley crew. Fenris respects Hawke and just about trusts her. He still doesn't like the mage thing, though.
- Isabela – Pirate wench. Sort of has a friends with benefits arrangement with her. She’s always fun for gambling and drinking with, anyway. He'll never admit it in a million years, but he's glad she's here.
- Merrill – A very happy elf who want to be Fenris’ friend. Pity she’s a blood mage and he can’t stand to be in her company for more than five minutes at a time. He’s especially douchey towards her.
- Sebastian – IDK my BFF Sebastian? His gentle yet constant evangelism gave Fenris a little faith in religion again. Plus he hates Anders which, you know, makes him the best person ever.
- Varric – Annoying dwarf. He’s planning on making all their lives a story someday. Despite the fact he trolls Fenris nearly constantly, he’s one of the few people in the universe Fenris actually LIKES.
- Varania – His sister and a fucking mage. She sold him out to the slavers for her own career. NO LOVE SIS.
Paradisa
Edit
I’ll be following the good old Dragon Age II ranking of friendship, where rivalry isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Things such as loyalty, trust and even love aren’t actually defined by either side of the scale. Being a rival just means Fenris doesn’t agree with you. Or, you know, you’re a mage :/
100% FRIENDSHIP
- Sakura – Someone who was actually helpful to him when he arrived in this crapsack place. She explained the castle to him. She's proven a good person to talk to, and he actually values what she has to say. She's teaching him sign language.
50% FRIENDSHIP
- Alleria – She doesn’t like magic either. Clearly, they are destined for biffleness.
- Allyene – Another elf, and one hell of a fighter. She’s not bad company, someone he actually enjoys talking to. Shock, horror.
- Faith - She showed him what TV and movies were, as well as explained cars and other modern world marvels. He doesn't understand most of it, but he appreciates her effort, all the same.
- Felix – He ran the expedition which Fenris ultimately failed to be a real part of. Still, he knows a great deal about the castle, and is worth talking to. Despite the fact he's a mage, and as thus met the brunt of Fenris' ire on more than one occasion, he has stepped in to help with the Danarius situation, largely because his own life experiences are very similiar to Fenris'. A mage he's almost tempted to call a friend. CONFLICTING ISSUES GET.
- Galadriel – An elf of nobility, however the hell that works. They’ve had a few chats about magic and the nature of man and all that jazz.
- Hermione - She is a mage, so he really should just automatically hate her. BUT she cares a great deal for the slavery of elves both in her own world and in Thedas. FOREVER UNSURE.
- Ino - Another one of those upbeat girls who likes to talk to him. Maker WHY?
INDIFFERENT
- Ashura-ou- Felix's partner. He's allowing Fenris to stay in his room while the Danarius issue gets sorted out, and seems the decent sort.
- Daine – A mage who’s magic involves communicating with animals. She saved his ass during a harpy attack, so he’s grateful for that. Starting to get over his anger with her a bit.
- Jaina – Doesn’t know she’s a mage yet, herp herp.
- James - Inquisitive sort of guy. He seems fair enough company, though, even if Fenris is suspicious of the 'technology' which has kept him alive for so long.
- Kaylee Frye - She's relentlessly cheerful towards him. Fenris really doesn't get it.
- Zuko - Broody guys with facial scars unite, or something.
50% RIVALRY
- Ammoretta - He's still convinced she's some sort of demon.
- Rhyme - Annoying upbeat child who reminds him far too much of Merrill for comfort :/
- Tia Dalma – Some sort of very powerful mage. Still, she understands his caution around those with magic, so she’s bearable enough to be around.
100% RIVALRY
- Pinkie Pie – Fucking singing pink horse. She won’t leave him alone and keeps trying to be his friend. She’s more trouble than Merrill, which is really saying something. So much hate.
