From the machinima series Red vs. Blue: Out of Mind, Freelancer York and his AI unit, Delta (or just D) are one of the only successful human/AI teams out there. Delta's aspect is Logic; York's specialty is infiltration. Spoilers follow, but I will keep them as minor as possible.

Background
Edit

Added by AnarinLittle is known about York's past except that he was injured in the left eye by Agent Omega-Texas, possibly during Omega's escape attempt. It's implied that he is no longer an official member of Project Freelancer, but this is never explicitly stated. He also retains his AI, which was supposed to have been removed and deleted.
York's true name is unknown, although it is very possible that he is in fact from New York. He's described as a former infiltration specialist, but he's recently been a petty thief because "it pays the rent".
In Paradisa, York has hinted that the war between the UNSC and the Covenant has been going on nearly his entire life; this puts him somewhere in his early 30s. He also claims to be from the year 2552 and mentions he's been stationed on a planet called Reach, among other places. He also claims that details of his Project are highly classified under ONI Section Three, and the most he'll say is that they were codenamed after states and their AIs were named after Greek letters. If pushed, he will refer to himself as Agent Foxtrot-12, Delta-New York. He has to be either very impressed or very pissed off for this to happen, though.
Canon Point and Loss
Edit
They entered Paradisa from the beginning of Episode 5, right as they were supposed to exit the portal to begin the fight with Wyoming.
Delta and York have both lost all knowledge of the existence of the Alpha AI.
Temporary Losses
Edit
- April 13-19, 2009: Genderswap! York was stuck as Eliza Dushku and Delta looked like a green Cortana. This overlapped with the Jurassic Park plot, so it was largely armorless!
- June 11-17, 2009: Bodyswap! York was an AI and Delta was human. As it turned out, this was excellent practice for the Wild West plot, where Delta was again stuck as a human for a week.
- September 16-22, 2009: Pandas! York was a giant panda and Delta was a red panda. It was very zen. Soon afterward, they were a pirate and his parrot for a day during the pirate plot.
- November 22-December 1, 2009: Upon returning from death, York's eye is broken again and a temporary loss prevents him from healing it. However, this was proven to be a temporary loss when it was healed on December 22 by medical nannites from the Doctor.
- April 30-?, 2010: Mythbusters loss! York and Delta join the Doctor and the Doctor along with Amy Pond and Tony Stark in a valiant effort to test as many of the castle myths as possible while simultaneously causing the greatest amount of destruction. Can you say awesome loss?
Special Note Regarding Telepathy
Edit
In York's canon, attempting to poke at more than surface thoughts will bring you into a character's "headspace", a mental construction in the character's psyche that reflects themselves somehow. The inside of York's head is described here; attempting to go in there while he is in armor will always result in an encounter with Delta's avatar.
Delta and York share a consciousness. They have conversations at the speed of thought and more subconscious interaction. If they detect another presence, Delta will attempt to fight the invading mind fiercely - in addition to simple possessiveness, they have lived through Carolina's breakdown, which was directly caused by three minds trying to occupy one body. He's not terribly skilled at fighting off non-AI invaders, but he will try.
York and Delta are rarely separated mentally - for example, during the Wild West plot - and it's very stressful for them to not "hear" each other for more than short periods of time. When York is seen completely out of armor, he will almost always have either a device made by the Doctor to maintain their link or he will have the Tamagotchi from the Jurassic Park plot, as that allows for short-range communication.
Quotes
Edit
York
Edit
- What do you think, D?
- Delta's not a threat to anyone, never was.
- Actually, I had an interior decorator help me...She's dead now.
- What's in it for me?
- Thanks for coming down to my level, D.
- Whoa, whoa, you said an encrypted lock. This is a holographic lock.
- Not doin it to fix my eye, D. I'm doing it because my eye is broken.
Delta
Edit

Added by Anarin- I am here to assist.
- But...a little payback would be nice.
- Oh, so it is pride. I was registering an emotion, but I incorrectly categorized it as stupidity.
- I would prefer to stay with York.
- It's just part of what makes us human, Tex.
- Good and evil are human constructs, Reginald. I was merely attempting to be courteous.
Trivia
Edit

Added by Anarin- Delta's appearance is not limited to being an eight-inch floating green hologram. He can appear however he wants, but usually only changes color as a visual cue or alert. In Episode 5 of Out of Mind, he looked enough like Tex to fool Wyoming. However, most of the time he appears as a soldier in Mark V armor (as opposed to York's Mark VI) holding a pistol. If there is something nearby to "stand" on, he often will, rather than floating around York's shoulders.
- In Reconstruction, Delta is instrumental in revealing the identity of the Alpha.
- York's armor is tan with steel highlights. In the extremely unlikely (booo) event of an appearance in further RvB shows, this probably means he'll get a steel stripe on his forehead.
- Go watch Red vs. Blue. Just do it.
- Although they both use the same journal, Delta's speech is marked in green text.
- Unless expressly stated, assume all communication from them is spoken. It's habit, okay? You would too if you'd communicated mostly over radio for the past decade.
- York's out or armor appearance is provided by Marton Csokas; Delta is played by Matthew Gray Gubler.
- York has a Tribble in his room that Lucian convinced him to adopt. You won't get him to admit this easily, though. He claims not to be a pet person.
- York has access to, location of, and partial control over the Danger Room (II), which is located out in the mountains. He doesn't go there much since Wash left, but he'd be willing to open it up to people he likes. Currently, Sylar is the only other keycard holder.
- York is keeping Ryoki's pet Compy out in the Danger Room until Sakaki can find an owner for it.
Some Events Of Note
Edit
- As of 8-24-09, York has a TARDIS key given to him by the Fifth Doctor.
- 8-27-09: Wash knocks York unconscious and...force-heals his eye. Yay! No more handicap!
- 10-8-09: York is mysteriously incinerated while talking to Azula. D: Delta is unharmed.
- When York was returned to life, his eye reverted to its previously damaged state.
- Among his other Christmas presents, York received medical nannites from the Tenth Doctor. They vastly accelerate his healing, much moreso than his armor enhancement, and they also fixed his eye again. Awww.
- In January 2010, York was affected when the castle made zombie slaves out of the more "dangerous" residents. Reno was upset that the castle considered York more important than him.
- 3-6-10: The castle turns into Los Angeles and Delta is human. York realizes how much he's missed city life.
Possessions
Edit
York and Delta have acquired quite a few gifts and possessions during their stay at Paradisa. Anything of a personal nature he keeps in his TARDIS room rather than in 1510, since the TARDIS is a hell of a lot more secure. Not that his room isn't secure, but it takes a thief to suspect a thief, after all. If there's something here I'm missing, let me know!
- A single grenade from Caboose

Added by Anarin- A pineapple lamp from Sylar
- An industrial-strength electronics vacuum from Anya
- A set of office toys from Lorne
- A set of sketches by Five of some of the friends he's lost
- A touch-screen Rubik's Cube from Barney
- A Karlsland Air Force protocol handbook and a pack of cards that change patterns depending on the angle one looks at them from Hartmann
- A set of Thunder Bombs from Duster
- A knife from Faith
- A blaster from Hallin
A Spartan Laser left to him by WashReturned to Wash- "Assault Signal" and "Diamond Shield" from Chie, which boost hist Attack and Defense
- Tony Stark's notes on AIs
- A full paintball set, a PDA full of games, and a card detailing how he's sorry he acts like a complete asshole from Washington
- A holographic Duck Hunt game program from Komui
- A tribble (shut up his therapist recommends it)
- If it's a powerup from Halo 3, chances are good he either has one or knows how to make one. He likes to carry around a Gravity Lift for emergencies, and has several Teleporter nodes stationed around the castle that require an access key to use.
- An extra set of Mark V regulation blue armor given to him by...Reno? Why the hell did Wash give Reno an extra set of Blue armor...?
- THE MOST AWESOME PICTURE EVER. Hand-drawn by 6, it's a colorful, vibrant picture of New York City in its prime.
- A set of standard-issue Mark VI Red armor and a somewhat broken Portal Gun (and another tribble) from Kutner
Relationships
Edit
Canon
Edit
Freelancers and AIs
Edit
Tex - York and Tex have a complicated relationship. On the one hand, they've always been rivals in the Project. On the other hand, she's the only person he can truly count on to still know and like him just as much if she ever leaves this place and comes back. Besides Delta, Tex is the person York cares most about in all of Paradisa. They're currently living together and involved in an emotional relationship (which would progress beyond that if York could figure out how to work it through a robot body).
Omega - Of all the people who just HAD to show up. HAD to be the fucker who shot his eye out. He's gone again for now, but Omega remains one of the prime reasons York walks the castle every few days to check all the nameplates.
Wyoming - Has a horrible sense of humor. Also, is apparently responsible for York's death. There's some anger here. Okay, a lot of anger here, even if York knows it was probably nothing personal.
Gamma - Gamma, or Gary, was Wyoming's AI. He was mostly memorable for his knock-knock jokes, and apparently there was an incident when Gamma was removed that affected Wyoming's psyche. During the toddlers plot, Delta nicknamed the iPod child he had with GLaDOS after Gary.
South - Distrust, dislike, glad she's gone from this place.
The Meta - An unknown, but apparently where Delta eventually ends up. D:
Carolina - Carolina was close enough to York that their names were associated together. She was given two AIs, though; the conflict of having three minds in one head was too much for her to handle, and Carolina is now dead.
Wash - The first friend York had at Paradisa, Wash and York were very close until he disappeared. And just when York thought he was finally getting over it, Wash shows up again. York expressed his gratitude by punching his former BFF in the face. He knows things can't be like they were, and he's bitter, but he hopes they can still be friends anyway. (So maybe punching him in the face was a bad idea. But on the plus side, he got Wash to the clinic so he wouldn't bleed to death from his canon point?)
Alpha - They know very little about the Alpha, as knowledge of him was their permanent loss, but everything they learn makes them more and more worried.
Reds
Edit
Donut - York found Donut to be very amusing in a variety of ways and enjoyed bantering with him. After Donut left, York learned he was the one responsible for Tex getting stickied. Whoops?
Grif - So lazy it hurts his brain, Grif makes it entirely too easy to tease him. Really, he brings it upon himself. Still, a conversation with him can almost always make York laugh. Is back for the third time! Yay!
Sarge - The one Red York's never met, though he's heard plenty about the apparently insane Sarge. The only reason he'd want Sarge to show up is out of sheer morbid curiosity.
Simmons - ...Okay, dependency issues much? But York does miss the Grif and Simmons Show.
Blues
Edit
Caboose - A moron, but one York's always been overly fond of because he treats Delta like a friend. Been and gone several times.
Church - According to Church, York is Tex's "Freelancer buddy" and he associates York with Carolina. York doesn't remember ever having met Church, though it's possible they have and he didn't pay any attention to another person in regulation Blue armor. In Paradisa, they both grew to like Church quite a lot. He never seems to stick around, though.
Tucker - Tucker was a good friend and drinking buddy, if a little too obsessed with women. York and Delta were both a little freaked out to meet Junior during the toddlers plot.
Sister - Grif's sister, and one of the strangest people York has ever met. She seems to have Grif's genetic disposition toward making journal posts better than TV, though.
???
Edit
N'tho 'Sraom - What the hell??? An Elite who knows the Master Chief and says the war is over and they somehow ended up on the same side. Seriously, what the hell? But as weird as it sounds, he really seems like he's telling the truth - and Wash verified that at least part of his story is true. We're watching our steps like whoa around this guy, but if he is what he claims to be...which York may never find out now that he's gone. Boo.
Paradisa
Edit
6 - Little doll guy who makes psychic paintings. He's very shy, but York thinks he's not only awesome but also kinda cute.
7 - Sister of 6, but she's the warrior-type. It's a little amusing to York that he likes kickass girls even when they're eight inches tall.

Added by KrakattackAnya - She's pretty neat, if a bit airheaded. (She remembers Delta's name because it's the same as a major airline.) Also, totally hot. D convinced her to go around the castle naked during Tanabata. It was awesome.
Chie - Is back! Chie was one of York's first friends at the castle. York's happier than he reasonably should be that she's back, even if she doesn't remember him.
Crowley - The one responsible for "accidentally" killing York in Paradisa. He did apologize, but there's still a lot of anger here.
The Doctor - All-around nice guy, and very intelligent to boot. Delta has expressed interest in getting to know his ship's AI better. Gave York a key to his TARDIS - one of the few things York actually does need a key for - officially making York and Delta Companions. Would take a bullet for this guy, seriously.
The Other Doctor - Another version of one of his favorite people. If there's any reason not to like this one as much as the other one, York hasn't found it yet.
Eliot - One of the Leverage gang and the owner of the Lux. Eliot seems like an equal to York, which is not something he says lightly.
Faith - The girl whose body he ended up in during his female loss. She seems pretty damn kickass. York's never quite sure where he's standing with her, but he likes hanging around her anyway.
GLaDOS - An AI program which shows signs of rampancy, yet Delta finds her intriguing. Possibly dangerous.
Ken - Ken was on York's farm during the Wild West and - perhaps better than anyone else here - he understands what it means to have a partner. Even though his loss is memories of his partner. D:
Lorne - Guy who runs a bar and appreciates the color green! Two thumbs up. Four, if you count Delta's thumbs. All around, Lorne is one of the kindest people they know in Paradisa.
Reno - Faith's...husband? But more importantly, a bartender at the DeathMatch. They snarked quite a bit during the mass murder plot, but Reno did prove he's more than just some guy in a suit - and when he found one of this guy's memories, that much was confirmed.
River - Gone without a chance to say goodbye, and then returned with an extra dose of crazy. She's obviously been through some rough things, but York and Delta care about her to the point where they're willing to be responsible for her, although having her brother back is probably a good thing. They'll be keeping a close eye on her anyway, though.
Rose Tyler - Doesn't seem fazed by much, and she seems pretty nice and cheerful. Met her when helping WALL-E find the Sunshine Room.

Added by AnarinShortpack - Another little buddy, not to be underestimated. Apparently has the Danger Room back in his own world, and is on his call list along with 7 when he needs something potentially dangerous that would be ideal for little guys.
Sophie - She was here and left, but now she's back. Delta is amused by her love of Shakespeare, and York thinks she's hot. Also a Leverage member and someone York would like to get to know better.
Sylar - That guy who looks disturbingly like Wash. Not that York has any problems telling them apart, but it can still be strange. it's interesting to note that he considers himself to be evil...but Delta and York both know that good end evil are only human constructs. They're cautious around him because one of his known abilities is to manipulate electricity, which is one of the few things that can permanently damage Delta, but he seems to get along with them for now. Definitely interesting.
Weighted Companion Cube - Cuuubiiiiie. Delta is very protective of the Cube and considers it a friend. It's a little bit like what a child AI would be like, only with no perceived limits on its development....
Wonder Girl - Flew him to a healer during the dinosaur attack and then rescued him from a pit of tribbles. Despite that, they're not quite sure what to make of her yet.
Yuan - Doesn't know this guy's name, but they had a fascinating discussion about the nature of artificial intelligence.
Gone
Edit
Too many to count. Suffice it to say that one of the consequences of making friends is losing them.
