"I'll give you guys a damn escort! Now go do what you're paid to do!"
Aliases/Other Names: Rubedo, Number 666, Little Master, Red Dragon. Species: Human (Enhanced) Race/Type: Genetically engineered bioweapon known as U.R.T.V. [U-DO Retro Virus] Chronological Age: 27 30 in-game Biological Age (Appearance): 12 Height: 4'7" (140CM) Height: 84 LBS (38KG) Born: T.C. 4741 Pulled From: T.C. 4769 Current Residence: Room 305 Neighbors: THE GODDAMN BATWOMAN & Alleria Windrunner. Across From: The Meta Previous Occupation: Co-Director of the Kukai Foundation and Commander of it's flagship, the Durandal. Weapons: LOTS BY NOW. But his main weapons are two Makarov pistols, two Vaquero pistols, a Beretta M9, and a dagger he got from Sylvanas. Appearance: SEE HERE and HERE for clothes and voice. He's always wearing his guns somewhere on him, and that earring never goes away. Jr. looks and sounds like a twelve-year-old since that's when his body stopped aging. He also has the numbers 666 tattooed in red into his right palm, and tends to wear cowboy-inspired outfits with dusters and leather jackets.
"I can't hear my other heartbeat anymore. I just tore away half of my body with my own hands."
Jr. was quite literally born to be a weapon, and tends to embrace that ideology in a very simple method: If you attack him, he will kick your ass. If you attack his friends, he will kill you dead. He was raised to do battle, and being trained to work as a leader was probably the only thing that kept his temper in check for so long.
He can be easily angered when the right buttons are pushed, and keeping his powers in check is something he is often struggling with. Instead of relying on his URTV powers, which baffles Albedo, Jr. prefers the old-school style of pistols, and occasionally the talents borrowed from Ether. Even when controlling his innate powers, however, he can still sometimes get a little carried away with shooting. Mary and Shelley muse that he watches too many action flicks, and that his tendency to overcompensate probably grew from a complex about his height.
But despite the life he was born into, Jr. is very much a human being. Although he has trouble sharing his inner turmoil with anyone, and can snap at someone should they pry, he tries very hard to relieve his friends of their problems. In more somber situations, he's very good at listening, and even better at lightening the mood should it become too dreary. This seems to be a reflex to keep the attention off his own problems. He's much better at connecting with people than when he was younger, which is probably a conscious effort because he failed to understand Albedo's suffering when they were children.
His own personality traits and history seem to create conflict within him a lot, quite often leaving him divided about who or what he really is. Despite being an adult, he is quick to play and joke around; and despite looking like a child, it's easy for him to command respect and express an innate wisdom. He wants to fight, and yet he rejects the past that created him that way. He doesn't want to hurt innocents, and yet his emotions are often the trigger to his most dangerous power. Due to the turmoil that is often bringing him nightmares in the middle of the night, one can occasionally find him sitting by himself and remaining uncharacteristically silent while he loses himself in his thoughts. These are also the times he'll bring out his treasured harmonica to play.
Guilt is not something Jr. is a stranger to, and it is part of what makes him drive himself so hard. He blames himself for the death of most of the URTVs, for Albedo's descent into madness, and even Sakura's death. It's something he always carries upon his shoulders, and at times the only way he can deal with it is to deny it's very existence and act like nothing is ever wrong.
This can sometimes make him appear too carefree, and in passing it would be easy to mistake him as a silly child. But whenever Jr. does something, be it silly or serious, it's always for a good reason. At least he'd like to think so.
Legally, Gaignun Kukai Jr. is the son of Gaignun Kukai, the present chairman of the Kukai Foundation. In reality, Jr. is Gaignun's older brother and a URTV named Rubedo.
Rubedo, Nigredo (Gaignun), Albedo, and Citrine were the final four URTV units and were put through additional mutation experiments to strengthen their powers. Rubedo and Albedo were born as conjoined twins and were separated before their training began. Citrine was absent during most of the training, but the other three became strong friends and were used to help in the treatment of a human girl named Sakura Mizrahi. During the treatment, Rubedo came to care greatly for Sakura, but her life ended before anything could become of their relationship.
During the Miltian Conflict, the URTV units were deployed to counter and destroy U-DO. Rubedo was the only one to have a perfect anti-U-DO wavelength and acted as the leader and linkmaster. When the URTV units had fought to U-DO and linked, Rubedo had a vision of the entire planet being destroyed by their collision with U-DO. Unwilling to kill so many innocents, Rubedo broke the link with the others without realizing the danger it would put them in. Without being linked to to Rubedo, the other URTV units were vulnerable to U-DO and driven mad or killed. Only Rubedo and Nigredo (who was carried out by Rubedo) were officially reported to have survived the incident.
After the Miltian Conflict, they took the money from the Federation's secret operations and used it to start the Kukai Foundation. Nigredo and Rubedo changed their names and took identities as the heirs to the Foundation. As Jr. controls his cell growth, he remained in a childlike state and became Gaignun's son. It's suspected that this was a half-subconscious decision due to a fear of losing control of Red Dragon Mode, as well as the guilt of being responsible for the deaths of most of his comrades.
Under Gaignun's guidance, the financial well-being of the Federation continued to grow while Jr. dealt more with the real mission; to keep U-TIC from ever becoming a power again.
It was during a mission regarding this duty that he met MOMO, who is a Realian designed to be physically identical to Sakura Mizrahi. During the travels that followed, the two have become close friends. Although both Gaignun and Albedo have suggested that such an attachment is unhealthy, he'd never forget the promise he made to Sakura to protect her mother and 'sister'.
"I am a weapon. Every cell in my body is aching for a fight. They long to collide with their anti-existence."
I've included a LINK HERE to a table that lists many of his abilities available in Xenosaga III. Because of Jr.'s extreme versatility in battle, I've actually excluded a few abilities that he's unlikely to use in Paradisa's setting. As a URTV, Jr. technically has access to more abilities (like telekinesis) than what is what available in 'gameplay mode', but because he chooses not to use them in battle, I see no reason to list them. ACTUALLY SHIT HAS CHANGED SO I NEED TO UPDATE THIS... UPDATE IT JESSE, DO IT!!!
Jr. is very well balanced among damage type characters. If an enemy is strong to one damage type, he can switch to another. This flexibility means that only enemies strong to all damage types are even moderately safe from him. Many of his physical attacks are slightly different from those of other characters. Rather than hitting an enemy with a fist or sword, he shoots them. This keeps Jr. well out of range from counter attacks without hindering his damage. He has impeccable aim, which he is happy to remind you of with his battle quote 'I don't miss' from time to time.
With access to many buff, debuff, and recovery ethers, Jr. can quickly switch from dealing damage to supporting others, and he has the ether attack power and energy to handle it. He is easily the most versatile character in the game, and while he is not a total godmode (final attack excluded), he is very difficult to beat. And if Red Dragon Mode is triggered? It's Game Over. He was created as an ultimate weapon, after all.
However, even with all of his strengths, Jr. certainly has his weaknesses. While it is difficult to actually land a shot on him due to his speed and reflexes, if someone does manage to hit him, he will take the damage hard. Because he is stuck in the body of a boy, even with a URTV's enhanced statistics, he does not have the strength or strong defense that a grown man would. He is also prone to losing his temper, and thus his focus.
MOMO; — A very special Realian who was modeled to look like Sakura Mizrahi. Her resemblance alone, coupled with Jr.'s promise to Sakura, is enough to make him naturally protective of her. But they became very close during their adventures and he thinks of her as her own person, so he would protect her even without the prior reasons. She's one of the most important people in his life, and he will go berserk if you screw with her.
Dmitri Yuriev; — The creator (father) of the URTVs. This bastard body-jacked Nigredo and massacred everyone on the Durandal (that is a lot of fucking people okay that ship is huge), critically injured Mary, and was ready to off her and Shelley too once he was through. Pretty much the straight up evilest guy in the game. Good thing they more or less killed him.
Albedo; — Crazy-ass slightly-younger twin. Complex up the wazoo. Jr. killed him, only...not? Yeah don't go there.
Nigredo; — AKA Gaignun Kukai. Jr.'s younger brother and dear friend. Masquerades as Jr.'s father in the publics' eye. ...Also dead. >:
Citrine; — Sister. She's dead (by his hand...sensing a trend?). Not happy about it? But she WAS a bitch with a daddy complex.
Wilhelm; — HAET. Though not as textbook evil as Daddy, he's pretty fucked up. Actually has a hero complex, convinced every shitty thing he's done (a lot of shitty, nasty things) was all for the greater good.
If someone's here, Jr. has known them forever and/or they've given him a good reason to trust them...with his life, if necessary. He'll share pretty much anything with them if they ask.
Allen; — Met over the journals when talking about the Arthurian legends, and bonded from there. Jr. loves just hanging out with him and playing poker, but he especially respects Allen's optimism when it comes to helping others, and sympathizes with his plight involving the Noah. Even if they don't always see eye-to-eye, Jr. considers him a good friend and would fight for him in a heartbeat.
Ino; — Jr.'s first experience with a real ninja, and boy was it different from what he's read in books. But he likes hanging out with her and just talking, even if they haven't really done much together for awhile now.
Morgana; — She's become a lot like the sister he wishes he could have had. Morgana was Jr.'s first lesson in not taking legends too seriously, as she's been nothing but caring and helpful towards him in his times of need. Likewise, he tries to help her out wherever he can, especially when she can't sleep. He crashes in her room (in a specific chair in the corner) rather often when he doesn't want to be alone, or just wants to get away from other people.
Jr. and Sylvanas during one of their camping trips. - DRAWN BY KAYLA
Sylvanas; — Despite her harsh nature, somehow she and Jr. have grown close. While they may butt heads on certain matters where morality and justice are involved, at their core they seem to have a tacit understanding. Jr. appreciates her dry wit, her sharp skills, and most of all her acceptance of their friendship, since he knows it isn't easy for her to trust others. More than anything he wants to help her with her issues, especially after hearing what may come of her when she returns home. He knows she isn't evil, and wants to believe that she'll make the right choices. Whatever happens, he isn't going to make the mistake of running away when things get rough like he did with Albedo so many years ago. He did promise her that he'd never abandon her, no matter what.
These people are pretty good friends who he mostly trusts, but he still won't share absolutely everything with them.
Farmboy; — Someone he doesn't talk with too often unless danger's around the corner, but he's a nice guy. Doesn't always agree with his methods, but he appreciates Clark's constant attempt to help others and do things without killing anyone. It's...idealistic, but Jr. thinks there should be more people like him around. LIKE ALLEN. You crazy kids. :)
Rin; — Some fat crazy bitch he keeps talking to. SHE'S CRAY-CRAY. And not really fat. But fun to talk to, despite the creeper vibes. Kind of worries about her because she's reckless...like him. She kinda saved his ass during the Berserk Plot. They don't really talk too much anymore, but the broship is still there if she ever needs help.
Tamaki; — An incredibly flamboyant guy who runs the Host Club. Jr. can't...understand him at all. He's obviously too kind hearted and idealistic for his own good, which got his stupid ass into trouble recently. Jr. is convinced he's either insane or mentally handicapped--how else could anyone be so childlike and DUMB after seeing the shit in Paradisa? Jr. feels responsible for what Arthas did to him so he gets extra snappy at Tamaki now when he even suggests doing something dangerous. ...And Tamaki called him a pervert, randomly.
The Doctor (Fifth); — The Doctor that he's known the longest, having interacted through general Castle shenanigans and expeditions, and his TARDIS is super handy. He's also aware of just how different Jr. is from a normal human, but unlike normal the conversation didn't turn into an angstathon.
Vereesa; — Sylvanas' sister, and married with kids apparently! She seems very different from Sylvanas, but despite being part of the Alliance, persists in her attempts to help her sisters bond, and he respects that. Despite trying NOT to get involved in their drama, he got in an argument recently because of her battle with Arthas. He wants to trust her, but he just isn't sure how far to take that trust yet.
Yuan; — He's helped out with lots of things, including attacks on the castle and certain expeditions AND the outposts. Jr. hardly talks with him but he's still listed here because of the time they spent hunting down the suits that time. ...Getting humiliated with someone creates bonding?
Either Jr. hasn't known them that long, doesn't talk to them often, or just hasn't 'clicked' with them yet. Still good people, though.
Alleria; — The eldest of the Windrunner clan, and apparently the bitchiest according to Sylvanas. She's his neighbor but they've only interacted a few times, so he's still not sure what to think of her. She seems...a lot like Sylvanas, honestly? They got in kind of a nasty argument recently because of Alleria's assault on Arthas.
Ashura; — If not for his good instincts, he'd have thought this dude was a girl. Jr. forgives him for smacking him because he was easy to fight alongside against the Spider Queen.
Colette; — Super cute AND useful in battle...like MOMO! Gone on a couple expeditions with her and knows about her abilities, but they haven't really talked much.
Crowley; — Met him through...destroying his car. Oops? They barely ever talk but he doesn't seem so bad.
Kat; — She led the expedition to Mineas Well after...not even being here for very long. Jr. really respects her initiative.
Kate; — His neighbor who gave him some sound advice at one point. Has no idea she's the Batwoman Allen was fantarding to him over.
Lois Lane; — Clark's fiancée, and a sharp reporter. Jr. doesn't talk to her much but he's impressed with her information gathering skills.
Pharos; — Creepy kid who probably isn't a kid at all. He seems very curious about a lot of things, but not malicious.
The Doctor (Eleventh); — Met him at the start of the Slenderman plot. Apparently he's going to set up a program to help the kids in the castle out, and Jr. is definitely game for something like that.
Tim; — Nice guy. He was blunt about certain issues with Jr., but not rude, so he likes him okay.
Yosuke; — Talked to this guy a couple times. Chie's friend from home.
Faye; — Someone else who's also from the 'future', and a fellow gun fanatic. They got along at first, but knowing what she did to become an Apostle, there's no way he trusts or likes her anymore. Confronted her a couple times and it's still very bitter.
Legato; — Never met the guy, but knows what he looks like so he's watching for him. On the list for fucking Yukiko up through Souji. Amusingly, Legato was the one to stop Jr. from blowing up City Royale, not that Jr. is aware of this.
Rory; — One of those that turned into an Apostle during the Berserk plot. Jr. fought him, and he's not liable to forget it. Recently they traded words over it. Jr. isn't looking to go out of his way to pick on him or badmouth him to people, but he will probably never trust him, and wants to avoid him as much as he can.
Zelman; — The first vampire he ever met. Jr. thought he was kinda cool at first, but he's obviously a psycho who holds no respect for human life. HIT LIST. Got back on Jr.'s radar after what he did to Rin, and is going to beat the crap out of him the next time their paths cross.
Seriously why does everything have to be so complicated.
Arthur; — WOW, okay. So at first he was like HOLY SHIT KING ARTHUR. Then he was like WOW YOU'RE A TOTAL PRICK. And then shit got weird. A loss made him, Lavi, and Jr. brothers, and for this to make sense they were all from a modern day Canada without any powers or bizarre histories. They had a normal mom and dad (Carl and Lavinia Yuriev), and a complete...history together. The memories aren't as sharp as they were during the loss, but they're still present, and it's disturbing. Jr.'s actual life was never like that, and now knowing first hand what it's like for normal people, and to have a tight family? It only makes his real life seem even worse. The feelings for Arthur are too complex to even rate right now. He's still a snobby bitch. But Jr. will kill anyone who fucks with him.
Cross; — Allen's 'Master' or something. He knows this guy has been a total dick to Allen for a long time AND stuck him in debt. Still he's proven himself in battle and that he's not technically an 'enemy' so...yeah, he gets this special section of DO NOT WANT UNLESS WE'RE UNDER SIEGE.
Alexstrasza; — An ancient dragon queen from Azeroth, and someone that Jr. quickly bonded with due to circumstance. After Jr. nearly lost control of himself, she was the one to offer to take him away and help him find his roots again. She lets him use a clearing near her nest to train, far away from the castle so that nobody is put in danger. He really looks up to her.
Chie Satonaka; — His ex-girlfriend, and previously his oldest friend in Paradisa. He hates how things ended between them, and regrets not being able to make amends before she left. He still loves her, but has learned to let go, and hopes with all his heart that she's happy at home with her family and friends.
Guinevere; — The first time she was here, he and his group saved her from being blown up, and she nursed his injury a bit. He's baffled that Queen Guinevere is a SERVANT, but he lets it slide because Morgana treats her so well.
Guts; — A hardcore warrior, and probably the only person ever who's teased him about being old. Jr. finds it hilarious. He really felt like he could be himself around Guts, and crashed at his place when he wanted to avoid the castle. ....Jr. misses him. >: And Allen is staying at his house now so that's weird.
Raine Sage; — A woman he worked with a few times whenever there was a crisis. They didn't talk a lot, but what he did get from her left him impressed, and he respects her quite a bit. He kind of relied on her research skills a lot, so he's flailing about her leaving, but glad she's at home.
Roy Harper; — A man they rescued from Dr. Fog, and had previously been an Outsider. Jr. always appreciated his special sense of humor and skills in battle, but they often argued about things, and it could get pretty damn brutal. Still, Jr. misses him, and can sort of understand why he went back into the Dead Zone.
Suu; — A very passive girl with a nice set of vocals. He played his harmonica for her, and she sang for him. During the baby event last year, they both received a child that they named Selena. Even with Suu gone, Selena still showed up this year. The art was done by a friend, so please don't take.
Tony Stark; — Claims he's a pretty awesome guy. Used to make weapons, but doesn't anymore. Runs the Peace Patrol, but because of the mass murder event, Jr. questioned his capabilities as a leader for awhile, but he seems slightly more on the ball now.
Quotes old poets, philosophers and authors on occasion.
Swears like a sailor, especially when pissed off.
Do NOT trigger Red Dragon Mode. Rocks fall, everyone dies.
THIS IS ALBY, his horribly gay dog. He got him for Christmas last year. Why Jr. asks permission to have a dog ON HIS OWN SHIP idek. He's so whipped. :(
Brought home a mini gyroid from Paradisa Town. It looks like a wiggling fire hydrant.
Co-owns a car with Allen after Lumpy Space. Allen named it the Juggernaut and they are so painting it red. Sadly (fortunately?) he isn't ever allowed to drive. >:
During the HS plot Chie also gave him a watch, a gag book, and some clothes that are too big for him now but he totally uses the Clint Eastwood shirt as a jammy shirt.
Oh yeah he currently owns the harmonica from the Lost Room.
SO MANY AWESOME PRESENTS FROM CHRISTMAS they will be listed...soon. Yes.
Citrine: Why were we born? For what reason do we exist? Answer me, Rubedo. You betrayed your comrades; you killed your brother. Why are you still alive? Jr.: To keep my promise. Citrine: Your promise? Jr.: Yes. The reason I exist is to keep the promise I made. Citrine: You're still haunted by that woman's shadow. I pity you.
