Tl;dr explanation with much speculation: here

HistoryEdit

Copy pasted from her App. Maybe to be clarified someday.

Galadriel grew up in Aman, the Undying Lands. It was a pretty good life, but she was ambitious and wanted a land of her own to rule. Due to a series of rather unfortunate events her uncle, Fëanor, convinced a great number of the Noldor (their particular group of elves) to leave and swear an oath of vengeance for said series of unfortunate events. Galadriel didn’t trust or like Fëanor-she “sensed a darkness in him”- and she didn’t swear the oath. However, her desire to rule over a spot of Middle-Earth led her to join the group.

Unfortunately, Fëanor’s determination to leave Aman would prove to be costly. When the Telari (another group of elves, renowned for seafaring) refused to join the Noldor or part with their ships Fëanor and his sons turned on them, initiating the Kinslaying. Galadriel did not aid in this slaughter; in fact she fought to defend the Telari, her mother’s kin, but she also failed to see this event for what it was: a giant warning sign. She continued to travel with Fëanor’s group, although one can imagine that relations were somewhat strained. To top all of this off, Fëanor and his sons took the ships of the Telari for themselves, leaving Galadriel, her brothers, and their followers to cross a harsh land bridge to get to Middle-Earth. This left Galadriel more determined than ever to make the journey, if only to thwart Fëanor in every way possible. At this point, the Valar spoke up and, in response to the Kinslaying, cursed the Noldor who left to treachery among themselves and banned them from ever returning. Galadriel’s leadership during this time meant that she fell under the ban and, though some of her kin sought pardon and received it, she was far too proud.

The curse of the Valar held true and much of the First Age was filled with war and strife. For the most part, Galadriel was able to stay out of the conflict. She spent a great deal of time in the kingdom of Doriath, where she met two people who would have a major impact on her life. First, she met Melian, the queen of that realm and a Maia, who was very wise and powerful. By all accounts the two became good friends and it is likely that Melian’s influence led to the growth of Galadriel’s wisdom and probably helped calm her down a bit. It was also in Doriath that she met Celeborn, who she would marry by the end of the First Age.

The second age began relatively peacefully and it was during this time that Galadriel gave birth to her daughter, Celebrían who would later marry Elrond and have Elrohir, Elladan, and Arwen. Eventually however, the peace of the Second Age was interrupted by Sauron’s return. It was during this time that the Rings of Power were forged and, along with them, the One Ring. The elves realized that they had been deceived and, on Galadriel’s advice, and hid the rings and did not use them until Sauron was defeated and the One Ring was lost. It was at this time that Galadriel received Nenya, the ring of the adamant. The end of the Second Age left Galadriel with a significantly trimmed family tree; Her brothers and kin had all been killed in the assorted wars.

And thus began the Third Age, in which Galadriel and Celeborn became the rulers of Lothlórien, which Galadriel preserved and nurtured with the power of Nenya, making it one of the last great homes of the elves. It was also during the Third Age that Celebrían was ambushed by a party of orcs while on her way to visit her mother. She was captured and tortured and, although she was rescued by her sons, she never fully recovered mentally and sailed into the West a year later. This would have been particularly painful for Galadriel on a number of levels. Most obviously, she would have empathized with the pain of her daughter and perhaps even felt slight guilt given where Celebrían was headed, but it should also be remembered that Galadriel was still under the ban preventing her from sailing to the West. This event was, as far as she knew at the time, the last she would ever see of her daughter.

During the War of the Ring, Galadriel played a vital yet largely hidden role. She formed the White Council, a group of the wise to discuss what to do about the problem. She continually used her telepathic abilities to search the mind of Sauron and gather information, all while guarding her own mind from his intrusions. Her most visible role, from the point of view of the hobbits (and thus the reader) was to aid the Fellowship during their stay at Lothlórien. During this time, Frodo offered her the Ring. By this time, Galadriel is a significantly different person than the ambitious and proud young elf who left Aman. The years of strife and loss had left their mark and she has come to understand her place in the world. She had been, in effect, force-fed some humble pie. It would not be true to say that it was easy for her to decline the One Ring, but she did. Her rejection of it proved to be the final act that removed the ban of the Noldor exiles from her shoulders. In this show of wisdom and humility, she demonstrated exactly how much she had changed; it is unlikely that, had the Ring come to her in her younger years, she would have been able to resist the temptation. Significantly, she did this without the knowledge that the ban would be lifted. At this point she believed that her homeland was lost to her forever and that she would wither and diminish into insignificance as the magic of the world leaves Middle-Earth. Certainly, she knew that the destruction of the One Ring would leave Nenya useless and, without its protection and nourishment, Lothlórien would fade. She has resigned herself to this and it results, at times, in a sort of tranquil melancholy.

After the Fellowship left Lothlórien, she received the injured Gandalf, nursed him back into health, and garbed him in white robes, completing his transition from “Gandalf the Grey” to “Gandalf the White.” It is at this point that she is brought to Paradisa.

PersonalityEdit

Also copy-pasted from her app.

The first thing one is likely to notice about Galadriel’s personality is her “Lordliness.” As the last remaining member of the House of Finwë, a powerful family of Noldor, in Middle-Earth, she has spent centuries in some form of power or leadership, even in those years in which she did not have a kingdom of her own, and this has left an indelible mark on her. She is unlikely to be casual with those she doesn’t know well, which could be easily mistaken for a superiority complex or a form of “uppityness.” Though unfailing polite (unless provoked) she may seem distant, untouchable, or even lacking in emotion, at first. Her nobility explains some of this distance-she is still very proud, although not as much as she was in her youth, and acts as she thinks befits one of her stature, namely with honor and extreme dignity. Besides this, she has lived for over eight thousand years. During this time she has learned to control the face that the public sees. As a telepath and one whose mind is constantly under siege by Sauron himself, it behooves her to carefully select what she lets others see of her thoughts.

It would be a mistake, however, to think that this emotional distance is insurmountable. To those she considers friends and allies, Galadriel has been known to display extraordinary thoughtfulness, compassion, and kindness. Her actions during the War of the Ring, in particular demonstrate this: not only did she welcome the Fellowship into her realm, offer what comforts she could, and give to them each an item to help them in their quests (most likely planned using her mirror), she gave Frodo and Sam use of the mirror, a high honor. But her kindness is not limited to aid. The way that she treats those around to her often reveals a gentle wisdom and quiet affection for those who merit it. For example, her treatment of Gimli- rebuking her husband for speaking out against dwarves and even gifting Gimli with three locks of her hair upon his asking for one, which is all the more significant when compared with her constant refusal of Fëanor’s requests for the same.

She is also clearly very fond of her family, although she expresses this in a typically muted way in public. She often refers to Celeborn as “Celeborn the Wise” and when she speaks of him, she seems to express an admiration for his abilities that one might not quite expect given the vast difference between their power levels.
"He has dwelt in the West since the days of dawn, and I have dwelt with him years uncounted[..]"
Elf wannabe88Added by Elf wannabe88
Although Celeborn may not be as mystically powerful as his wife, it is clear that she relies on him as someone to talk to and as a source of support. Over the years she has come to admire his wisdom and respect his counsel. The couple is also obviously on very good terms with their grandchildren who, before the war, would come and visit often. The small family that Galadriel does have is all the more important in light of the devastation that the First and Second Ages had on her family tree. These are, literally, all the kin that she has and the thought of something happening to them would be extremely painful. For this reason, her departure into the West at the end of Return of the King will be bitter sweet. She finally gets to go home (and re-unite with her daughter), but she will be parted from Celeborn for a time and from Arwen forever.

On the other hand, she has no problem with being harsh if she deems it necessary. She knew Bormoir would attempt to take the Ring from Frodo, for example, and although she tested the minds and hearts of all the Fellowship, it was he who seemed the most affected by it, suggesting that she deliberately pushed at his mind the hardest in the hope of exposing its cracks. She is, by nature, a forgiving person who believes in redemption (she even offered Saruman a last chance!), but she also knows that introspection and change are often painful. Her ruthless pushing at Bormoir’s mind was, ultimately, an attempt at a kindness as well as an effort to save the quest of the Ring. She hoped to force him to confront what affect his ambitions and the Ring were having on him. If she must be cruel in order to be kind, she will.

She can also hold “grudges,” for lack of a better word, for a very long time. If she senses enough darkness about a person to alarm her, it will take a lot for her to come to trust them, even if they haven’t actually done anything (yet). Probably more than is actually possible. Experience has left her feeling very justified in this. This doesn’t mean that she will be openly rude or discourteous, but, well, she can be very cold when she wishes to without breaking a single rule of etiquette. In the past, this has not always stopped her from associating herself with the ventures of such people, as was the case with Fëanor, but given how well that turned out it is unlikely that she would enter into such a situation lightly. In his description of Galadriel, Samwise Gamgee described her in a series of contradictory terms:

“[…] Sometimes like a great tree in flower, sometimes like a white daffadowndilly, small and slender like. Hard as di'monds, soft as moonlight. Warm as sunlight, cold as frost in the stars. Proud and far-off as a snow mountain, and as merry as any lass I ever saw with daisies in her hair in springtime.”

And he may not have been as “far off [his] mark” as he thought. She is stern, yet forgiving; distant, yet caring; proud, yet keenly aware of her own fallibility; she may be melancholy, but she takes mirth where she can. Thousands of years and almost as many sorrows have made her cautious and reluctant to show her whole self to anyone not of her family. Those who encounter her, then, typically see a “face” of Galadriel defined by the nature of their interaction. Because of this, to most she remains an enigma: something to be marveled at, respected, perhaps even feared, but not completely understood.

RelationshipsEdit

This is getting long and complicated and will probably never be complete.....

BelovedEdit

~"[...] and there was great love between them."~

Canon

  • Celeborn: Her husband and co-ruler of Lothlórien. She counts him as the wisest of elves on Middle Earth and has come to highly value his counsel and insights. She gave him the title "the Wise" and it was he who first called her Galadriel or "Crowned with a Radiant Garland," referring to her hair.
  • Celebrían: Her daughter and only child, who has now sailed into the Undying Lands. Married to Elrond, mother of Arwen, Elladan, and Elrohir.
  • Arwen Undómiel : Her granddaughter, also known as the Evenstar. Betrothed to Aragorn. And now Arwen has come and gone from Paradisa, leaving Galadriel very torn about the whole thing. It's for the best that she returned home, and she knows that. But she's going to miss her a great deal.
  • Elladan and Elrohir: Her twin grandsons.
  • Finrod Felagund: The brother that she was closest to. Deceased
  • Angrod, Aegnor, and Orodreth: Her other brothers. Deceased.

Paradisa

  • Good luck getting here if you've known her for less than a thousand years. There is a reason everyone on this list is family.

HonoredEdit

~"Needless were none of the deeds of Gandalf in life."~

Canon

  • Elrond: Son-in-law, father to her grandchildren, and wise Elven Lord. Quite aside from the love she bears him for the sakes of her daughter and grandchildren, she respects his wisdom, his might, and his skill. A powerful healer, a valuable ally and a great friend. Bearer of the ring Vilya . Married to Celebrían and father of Arwen, Elladan, and Elrohir.
  • Gandalf: Also known as Mithrandir. A wizard or Istari of great power and wisdom. She wished for him to serve as the head of the White Council, but Saruman outranked him in his order and took the spot. She trusts his judgement greatly. She recently healed him of his injuries from a fight with a Balrog and garbed him in white robes, completing his transition from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White. Bearer of the Ring Narya. Member of the Fellowship.
  • Aragorn: Also known as Elessar, or "Elfstone." Isildor's heir and heir to the throne of Gondor. He is betrothed to her granddaughter Arwen. Galadriel respects him greatly, both as future kin and as a mighty and wise warrior. She gifted him with the Elessar and a sheath for his sword. Member of the Fellowship.
  • Frodo: She doesn't know him as well as the others, but any Ring Bearer is deserving of honor and respect, especially one who undertakes such a treacherous task. He carries his burden well, but she fears the toll it will take on him before the end. Bearer of the One Ring . She gifted him with the Phial of Galadriel and allowed him to look into her mirror . Member of the Fellowship.

Paradisa

  • Lakare : Aside from Elrond, the Fifth Doctor is easily the person she trusts most in Paradisa and the one who knows the most about her. He’s wise, charming, good-hearted, and pleasant company. She values him as both an ally and a friend and there is very little that she would not do to aid him, if he asked.
  • The Doctor: She doesn’t know him as well and they’ve only spoken a few times, but any version of the Doctor is all right by her. Thus far he seems as charming and intelligent as his counterpart and she’s quite sure that her opinion of him will only improve with time.
  • God: Do I really need to explain this one? After freaking her out when they first spoke, He told her that she was forgiven and the ban on her was lifted when she rejected the Ring. She's forever grateful for that.

FriendlyEdit

~"But we have passed through Lothlórien, and the gifts and the favor of the Lady go with us."~

Canon

  • Legolas Greenleaf: Prince of Mirkwood. She knows him mainly through the time he spent in Lothlórien, though she likely knew of him before. He is stout of heart and faithful to his quest and that is enough for him to earn her favor. She gifted him with a bow of the Galadhrim . Member of the Fellowship.
  • Gimli: A dwarf who has taken quite a liking to her since she demonstrated her familiarity with and sympathy for his people. She gifted him with three locks of her hair upon his request. Member of the Fellowship.
  • Samwise Gamgee: A hobbit, originally a gardener, who will follow his master, Frodo, to the ends of the earth. She gifted him with a box of earth and a Mallorn seed (both most likely blessed with the power of Nenya), which he will later use to restore the Shire and allowed him use of her mirror. Member of the Fellowship.
  • Meriadoc Brandybuck: Another hobbit on the quest of the ring. She had little interaction with him, besides testing his heart, which remained true. She gifted him with a golden belt. Member of the Fellowship.
  • Peregrin Took: Yet another hobbit on the quest of the ring. Again, she interacted with him little outside of general meetings with the Fellowship, but he has a good heart. She also gifted him with a golden belt. Member of the Fellowship. And now he's come and gone, leaving her as the last Middle-Earthian in the castle. Here's hoping you don't die, little buddy.

Paradisa

  • Felix: Head of CHIMERA, a magical council of sorts. Galadriel has seen into his mind and, while he has some serious issues, she feels that overall he’s a good fellow. She trusts him. He’s very intelligent, snarky, and somewhat amusing, even if she does occasionally want to smack him for thinking so little of himself.
  • Ashura: King, co-chair of CHIMERA and beloved of Felix. They’ve become rather fast friends in the time she’s been in Paradisa. He’s a very sweet man and an excellent conversation partner
  • Courage: A small...talking...pink... dog. Yeah, she doesn't know either. But he's sweet and gifted her with a yo-yo after she asked him about his. Pretty cute.
  • Uru: Adorable teenage human is adorable. She's very polite and pleasant to talk to and has a huge heart, although Galadriel thinks that her optimism borders on naivety at times. Still, Galadriel gets the feeling that Uru has a great deal of things that she keeps to herself. Not that she can blame her. Still, she’d like to know more of what Uru thinks when she isn’t being cheery.
  • York and Delta: A friend of the Doctors', York is, as far as she can gather, a military man of a futuristic world. Who apparently travels through space, which she just finds astounding and amazing. He's a kind soul and sharp, so she enjoys speaking with him. He also happens to share Celeborn's face, which is very strange and makes her a bit homesick. As of yet, she knows very little about Delta. York explained AIs to her and she is able to sense their connection, but she doesn't know much beyond that. Certainly a possible ally.
  • Aziraphale: An angel. Aside from just radiating warm feelings, he's quite a nice fellow, if a little annoyingly chivalrous at times, and an excellent conversationalist.
  • Nudge: Oh my god. She didn't know it was possible for anyone to speak that quickly. But seriously, this kid is cute and sweet. She did see wings when they first met, and for a long time she just pretended that she didn’t because Nudge seemed hesitant to talk about it. Eventually they talked about it, as well as Nudge’s other powers, and she has agreed to remain silent on the subject.
  • Rin: Rin filtered to telepaths and asked for help regarding the First Gens. In order to get a better idea of what she was looking for, Galadriel did end up looking at one of Rin's memories. And the two had a nice long chat afterwards. She's impressed by Rin's observational skills, intelligence, and determination. It's pretty obvious she's not had an easy time of it (whether that is entirely here or partially at home, Galadriel didn't ask or look to see). They are currently sharing quarters, as Rin was mildly uncomfortable living alone after being kidnapped by Riful.
  • Alleyne: An elf who doesn't wear nearly the amount of clothes that she should. But that's okay, no judging here. She's also a pretty badass warrior and teacher, which is very awesome and somewhat startling. Galadriel ended up giving her romantic advice recently- namely not to give up or over think things. This is clearly a very strange but interesting friendship.
  • Phoebe Halliwell: A witch (she's still figuring out what that means) that she met on the expidition. She also sees into the future and the two of them have had a number of interesting conversations about their powers, relationships, their worlds, life, the universe, and everything. Looking forward to learning more about this one.
  • John Egbert: She really needs to stop finding human children so amazingly adorable. A very sweet, if odd, young man. She's only spoken to him a few times, but he's left a good impression.
  • Fenris: An elven warrior from a world where elves have been enslaved and/or generally oppressed. He also has a huge issue with magic, which is interesting since he just radiates it. They've had a number of interesting conversations and, believe it or not, she actually likes him despite his grumpiness. There's layers there and she hasn't entirely figured him out yet, but she looks forward to the challenge.
  • Alleria Windrunner: Another female elven warrior. Good grief, is Galadriel the only elf here who isn't one? They've talked a little and so far, Galadriel likes what she's heard. Alleria has that hardened soldier's attitude, of course, but she's not unused to dealing with that.
  • James Watson: A doctor- both a healer and a scholar- who has an extreme interest in what he calls “abnormals”- mostly meaning anyone who isn’t a regular human. But let’s be honest, he has an interest in just about everything. He’s intensely curious and observant. This, combined with the fact that he’s also courteous and rather charming, has rather endeared him to her.
  • Helen Magnus: a friend of James Watson and now a friend of hers. Like James, she is both a doctor of medicine and a scholar and intensely intellectual. The woman also has a great deal of compassion and understanding. Overall, someone Galadriel admires and will enjoy getting to know better.
  • Jilly Coppercorn: Galadriel first heard about Jilly through the Fifth Doctor, who praised her, and she has not disappointed. Jilly was one of the few to know her as an elf immediately, has said some amazingly insightful things, and is always eager to listen when Galadriel speaks. There’s something warm and inviting about the woman and Galadriel likes being around that.
  • Will Stanton:Another who is not as he seems. Will is both a human child and a being known as an Old One. As a child, he is charming and sweet. As an Old One, and specifically, the last of his kind who has not sailed off to a land beyond the winds, he speaks to and understands a part of her that few do, even in her own world.
  • Lord Raenef: A demon lord who is strangely adorable and good-hearted. Galadriel knows by now not to be deceived by titles. This one has a heart of gold and a kind of childlike innocence. She feels compelled to look out for him.
  • Vereesa Windrunner: Vereesa WindrunnerAnother one of the Windrunner sisters. Like Alleria, she has a certain military air about her, but she seems more gentle and at ease than her sister. She’s very easy to talk to and Galadriel would enjoy learning more of her.
  • Kitty Pride: A bright young girl to whom Galadriel has taken quite a liking. She has a brave soul and a kind heart. She also happens to have the ability to phase through solid objects. It’s really rather amazing.
  • Lloyd Irving:
  • Lady Morgana:
  • Crowley:

NeutralEdit

~"[...] we dwell now in the heart of the forest, and do not willingly have dealings with any other folk."~

Canon

  • None: She has an opinion on everyone, okay?

Paradisa

  • Tia Dalma: Very interesting. Galadriel can definitely tell that there's more going on here than she knows about- and not just because this woman feels like the Sea. They've talked a bit and it is nice to speak with someone who understands seeing the future (and the frustration with the castle messing with this ability). Over all, Galadriel likes her, but she's just not completely sure she can truly trust her; She's harder to figure out than most. Which just means that Galadriel needs to talk to her more.

Wary of/Displeased withEdit

~"And she withheld her goodwill from none, save only Fëanor. In him she percieved a darkness that she hated and feared [...]"~

Canon

  • Fëanor: Her uncle, who started the whole mess of the Silmarils . Although she allied herself with him for a time, she never trusted or liked him. This only got worse with time. Deceased.
  • Boromir: Son of the steward of Gondor. A prodigous warrior and a good man at heart, but she feared his resolve would falter and he would try to take the Ring. She was proven right. He wished to wield it against Sauron and trusted too readily the ability of men to resist the Ring's seductions. She gifted him with a golden belt. Member of the Fellowship. Deceased.

Paradisa

  • Zelman: She's only had one conversation with him, but it was interesting. There's a lot more going on with this one than meets the eye. She knows he's a vampire, but...doesn't know his name, actually. He was perfectly polite, but she gets the feeling that he's dangerous and worth keeping an eye on.

EnemiesEdit

~"[...] I percieve the Dark Lord and know his mind, or all of his mind that concerns the Elves. And he gropes ever to see me and my thought. But still the door is closed!"~

Canon

  • Morgoth: The original Dark Lord, a fallen Vala . He was eventually captured by the other Valar and thrown into the Void.
  • Sauron: Originally Morgoth's servent, Sauron, a fallen Maia, has taken his place as the chief threat to the free peoples of Middle Earth. Forger of the Rings of Power (save for the three of the elves, which kept them somewhat useable without corruption of the wielder) and the One Ring. She sees his thoughts and is able to prevent him from seeing hers, making her a powerful opponent of his.
  • Saruman: A one time ally, the wizard Saruman has betrayed his order and the people of Middle Earth. He is now allied with the Dark Lord Sauron and seeks only to gain power for himself.

Paradisa

  • If you get on this list, you are a terrible, terrible person and should be ashamed.
  • Legato Bluesummers: Finally been taken down and is in jail, so not really a threat at present. She’s still intrigued, though.
  • Deathwing- In short: he was here before and they had this weird banter/worthy opponent thing going on. Now he’s back and they got off to a rocky start, largely because he felt the need to make suggestive comments along with his threats. Really, show some respect for her as a foe; take her seriously!

GoneEdit
