Born in 1883, died in 1998 in Nurmengard prison, the wildly brilliant dark wizard famously defeated by Albus Dumbledore in 1945. The pair met and became close over the summer of 1899. Two months that unfortunately led to the death of Ariana and changed the lives of both men forever. He believed in the superiority of wizards over muggles, and terrorised Europe however staying away from the UK. But now as the castle has taken away his magic, where does he stand?

Personality Edit

Gellert Grindelwald, an utterly brilliant student and notoriously power hungry. His belief in the superiority of Wizards and their need to be separated from muggles; led to one of the most horrendous ages in wizarding history. From the age of 16 he was fascinated by the dark arts. Studying at Durmstrang he was expelled for near fatal attacks on fellow students. Even Durmstrang, a school famed for its morally grey teachings could not keep him.

Then in 1899, at the age of 16 he moved to live with his Aunt Bathilda Bagshot in Godric's Hollow whereupon he met Albus Dumbledore. An event that would shape wizarding history and the lives of both men. Gellert's intelligence, wit and quick mind could be said to have ensnared Albus. As well as his wild and gleeful beauty with blond curly shoulder length hair. He created a bond with Albus, enjoyed his time with him and felt him worthy enough to join him on his plans for world domination and the Deathly Hallows he obsessed over.

The intervention of Aberforth, Albus' brother led to a duel which resulted in the death of Ariana, Albus' and Aberforth's sister, soon after Gellert left.

Together they created the phrase, "For the greater good." A phrase that was later used by Gellert, carved over the Nurmengard prison door, a prison he created to house those who opposed him and ironically a prison he would later be sentenced to spend over fifty years in. Whilst his lust for power and supremacy was no doubt his driving force, Gellert's years of imprisonment forced him to re-evaluate himself and in some way repent for what he had done.

Not entirely unredeemable, he died at Voldemort's hand after refusing to tell him the whereabouts of his wand. This was possibly the most selfless act he had ever committed, perhaps in some way to pay for the sins of his life.
