↑All Stats are out of five (5), and totals are out of forty (40). The below information on the determination of these stats is paraphrased from the official databooks.
→Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu stats are based on knowledge and the proficency with which they are used.
→Knowledge stats are based on IQ and amount of knowledge.
→Power stats are based on full-body strength.
→Speed stats are based on swiftness and reaction speed.
→Stamina, here, does not mean endurance or staying power, but how much "energy/vitality" one has. Of which "energy/vitality" is the basis of chakra. This stat shows, basically, how much chakra one has available to use.
→Seals (Hand seals) stats are based on knowledge and the proficency used when performing techniques.
Personality
Edit
"Oh...umm.... When you cheered for me...I felt like I had become stronger.... After the preliminaries ended, I started liking myself a little more. To other people it may not seem like I've changed much but...I...felt like I was able to change."
Hinata is a kind, gentle and shy person. She is very soft-spoken and quiet, though she has learned to speak up for herself and to say what she really means and feels through the years. Though she is better characterized as a timid introverted person who dislikes conflict, and so does her best to avoid it. Conflict being battle, arguments, or any type of fighting.
And because of her quiet and understanding traits, she is quite empathetic, easily identifying with and noticing the pain others are feeling. Yet on the flip side of this, she is lacking in self-confidence (though not as badly as when she was twelve and younger) and still hides her real feelings on matters and people, to a degree. Because of this, she still often has trouble saying what she wants to as she pauses between words and interjects, "Um," at times.
Because of her nature, she is something of a doormat and will agree with someone if just to stop a fight or argument from breaking out. That is not to say she doesn't have a stubborn streak—because she does, though many would not guess it and simply call her a hard worker—or that she won't fight. She is something of a martial pacifist: while she will do her best to avoid a fight, if she has no other choice or one is threatening her "precious people" then she will fight and put her all into it.
Her lack of self-confidence stems from the heavy burden of being the heiress of her clan that she has carried since her birth. Her clan had a set idea of what the perfect heiress should be, and she did not fit their expectations, and so her title and birthright became a heavy weight that restricted her ability to grow and her faith in herself. However, by the age of sixteen, she has matured greatly and grown into her title. It is no longer a shackle keeping her down, but something to strive toward.
Her motivations are to be acknowledged and wanting to change herself through hard work. She wants to be acknowledged by her father, her clan, and by Naruto; though the ways she wants to be acknowledged by them differ: as a competent heiress, ninja and daughter, and as a person. She has been working on both goals through the entire series and each time she appears, she is shown to have succeeded to some degree. Especially since she received a promotion to chuunin, that shows she has grown enough to take charge of situations, make decisive actions, and be a leader to a degree. On the same note, she is shown to be a traditional person who follows the rules of the ninja world and her nindō, while also showing that she knows when and which to break in certain situations.
The strict laws and traditional nature of her clan is part of the reason why she admires Naruto so much, because she wants to "be like him" and because, to her, he embodies "potential" and "self-confidence". Like so many others in her age-group, and because of the inferiority complex she had toward her younger sister, she is always seeking strength and power and doing her best to better herself. However, because of Naruto's heavy influence, she seeks out power through hard work and determination instead of, say, running off to learn from missing-nin and cutting corners to power.

Byakugan (Lit. White Eye)
A supplementary technique; close-, mid-, long-range; unranked genetic/bloodline trait.
The Hyūga are one of the two noble families of Konohagakure no Sato, alongside the Uchiha, mainly because of their unique eyes. Whereas the Uchiha have the sharingan, the Hyūga have the byakugan; both eye-techniques are unique to their respective families. The byakugan, unlike the sharingan, manifests itself in all family members instead of a mere fraction.
While with the sharingan one can easily understand all the principles behind ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu, along with granting one the ability to caste unique genjutsu; the byakugan allows its user to "see through everything" and easily understand the principles behind chakra circulation and use. It can see straight through immediate objects, anything situated remotely ahead/behind/sideways, and through a body to its "acupuncture network" through which chakra circulates, along with the apertures that are used to release chakra from the body: the "chakra openings". With this sight, one can collapse the chakra network of an opponent and render them incapable of using any chakra.
The byakugan also grants its user near three-hundred-and-sixty degree vision—it has a small blind spot on the back of the user's neck just above the third thoracic vertebra. Hinata has been shown to have developed her byakugan to the point of being able to see around ten (10) km (around 6 miles) in one direction. Whether or not she can see farther than this is unexpanded on, but it's implied that she might be able to see farther.
When the byakugan is activated, the amount of chakra being directed to the eyes causes the veins around the temple and the user's pupils to bulge.
Martial Arts
Edit
Jyūkenhō (Lit. Gentle Fist Style)
There are two main fighting styles: Gōkenhō (Lit. Strong Fist Style) which is used to cause external damage, and Jyūkenhō which is used to cause internal damage.
In the case of Hinata, she uses Jyūkenhō to damage not only an opponent's internal organs, but to damage their chakra network through hand-to-hand combat. The Jyūkenhō the Hyūga practice is a combination of the Chinese martial arts Baguazhang and Tai chi chuan, the Japanese philosophy of Taoism, and Acupressure. It is neither a striking martial art nor a grappling martial art, but a combination of the two that emphasizes following the motion of an incoming attack and disrupting the natural flow of the opponent through pushing hands.
Jyūkenhō attacks utilize the user's entire body through smooth coiling and uncoiling actions, hand techniques used to close chakra apertures by injecting their own chakra into their opponent's chakra system, dynamic footwork and throws, and spherical movements.
Through training, a practitioner increases their natural flexibility and learns proper body alignment. Because of this, users are able to fight multiple opponents at once as they flow between opponents and attacks, which make Jyūkenhō users quite skilled in evasion and sneaking behind their opponent. Pushing hands then comes in from here, as empty-/open-handed hits and pushes are used to disrupt the opponent's center of gravity and collapse chakra openings.
The principles behind this style of fighting coupled with the byakugan allow for a practitioner to not only easily use any weapon, but to literally be a weapon capable of killing with a simple touch.
Jūho Sōshiken (Lit. Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists)
This is apparently a unique Jyūkenhō attack Hinata has developed.
Using chakra she has released through the palms, Hinata molds it into a large lion-shaped shroud around each hand and through spherical attacks thrusts it toward an opponent. Its damage is never seen in the manga, but the anime allows one to presume it can temporarily stun an opponent when hit.
Chakra
Edit
Chakra, in the world of Naruto, is what is necessary to use any techniques other than taijutsu. Through kneading the physical and mental energy contained in the body's 130,000,000,000,000 cells (or so) into chakra, and then converting it into jutsu through the use of hand seals. Only when done correctly can one use jutsu, or even to enhance physical abilities.
(The mental and physical energy a person has is what accounts for the "Stamina" stat. Through efficient use, one can cast many jutsu even with lacking stamina.)
Every ninja, in Konoha at least, has the same set of basic skills granted through chakra use:
Adhesion/Repelling→ Through constant concentration and coating of chakra along the soles of the feet (or palms of the hand, or through any part of the body), a ninja can "stick" themselves to a solid surface like a tree, wall, or ceiling. Alternatively by expelling chakra through any part of the body, they can create enough force to stand on top of non-solid surfaces, such as bodies of water. This allows Hinata to tree-, wall-, ceiling-, and water-walk.
Henge no Jutsu/Transformation Technique→ A basic jutsu that allows the user to transform themselves or another into the appearance of another person, object or animal.
Bushin no Jutsu/Clone Technique→ A basic jutsu that creates an intangible copy of the user; the clones are usually illusions and will dissipate when touched, and the byakugan and sharingan can see through them.
Kawarimi no Jutsu/Body Replacement Technique→ A basic jutsu that allows the user to quickly replace their body with another object within reach the moment an attack hits.
History

"I have to do my best! In front of the person I admire most, who's finally seeing the real me!"
Canon
Edit
Hinata is the eldest child of Hyūga Hiashi, the head of the Hyūga main house. As the first-born, she is the default heiress to the clan. This has put tremendous pressure on her since she was born to be the best and strongest ninja she could be, however no matter how hard she tried, she was viewed as too gentle and weak to be a good heiress by her father, cousin, and clan. Sometime after her sister was born, when she was around five, she was declared a lost cause by her father and he focused upon training Hanabi who showed more promise.
She used to have good relations with her cousin, Neji, until she turned three. Whenever the next heir or heiress turns three, all members of the branch family born after the last heir turned three and before the next turned three are marked with the Hyūga Main Family's Cursed Seal Technique. This technique brands their forehead with a mark similar to a swastika (Buddhist symbol), and its primary purpose is to seal the bearer's byakugan upon death to keep the secrets of it out of enemy hands, though its secondary purpose is to control the branch family as it can be activated by a main branch member to destroy the bearer's brain cells.
Also on the fateful birthday, the head ninja from Kumogakure no Sato was finalizing a peace treaty in Konoha. That night he attempted to kidnap Hinata, but was caught and killed by her father. Kumo demanded Hiashi's death in exchange, not only because he was the murderer, but also because it would allow Kumo to get their hands on the byakugan's secrets. Hizashi, Hiashi's twin brother and leader of the branch family, volunteered to go in place. The elders of the clan allowed it, and Hizashi was killed and given to Kumo as per the request. Neji would not know of his father's reasoning for many years, instead believing he had been killed by the main family for selfish reasons. Hinata became the main target for his hatred of the main family because she was indirectly responsible for Hizashi's death and he viewed her as too weak and gentle to be deserving of her station in life.
The large part of Hinata's early life passed with the burden of Neji's hatred and her trying to change herself into someone her father would be proud of. She nearly gave up on this, until she met Naruto. He was always goofing off, he wasn't particularly smart, and he was disliked by almost everyone, yet he never let it get him down. He had endless amounts of confidence in himself and his dream to become Hokage. More than that, he never gave up. And so began her long-standing admiration of Uzumaki Naruto that would eventually turn into a crush until becoming full-blown love for him.
((From this point on, Team Eight/Kurenai memories are here mainly as canon facts as she has no recollection of them in Paradisa. These memories have been altered to contain just random ninja she does not entirely remember but teamed up with in order to participate in the Chuunin Exams.))
At the age of twelve, Hinata graduated from Konoha's ninja academy and was placed onto Team Eight with Aburame Shino and Inuzuka Kiba along with his companion, Akamaru. Team Eight was assigned the newly minted jōnin, Yūhi Kurenai, and her father placed her in Kurenai's care at this time as well. These four people would become her closest, and only, friends.
Sometime after graduating, Team Eight was entered into the Chūnin Exams by Kurenai alongside the only other teams to become genin, Team Seven and Team Ten, along with Team Gai, Neji's team, whom had graduated the year before. Hinata entered with the desire to change herself. During the first test, she was seated next to Naruto and managed to gather up enough courage to offer to let him cheat off her so that he may have a chance at passing. They all would end up passing thanks to Naruto and his inspiring speech about not giving up or being afraid of the final question. In the second part of the exam, this part taking place in the Forest of Death, Team Eight quickly found the second scroll needed to pass becoming one of the first genin teams to do so.
Hinata, however, never made it past the preliminary matches. She was pitted against Neji, who was much stronger than her and a prodigy, and was thoroughly beaten. Yet she refused to give up which enraged Neji, even more so when she pointed out that he was the weak one, not her, fighting against his own fate. By the time the watching jōnin interfered to stop Neji from killing her and carted Hinata off for medical treatment, she was minutes from death. It is presumed that she spent much of the following month before the final matches in the hospital as she wouldn't be seen again until right before the matches started to renew Naruto's confidence in himself and in his ability to defeat her cousin. She would not get to see the conclusion of the match as she passed out from her still-healing injuries and would remain unconscious for the entirety of the invasion by Oto and Suna.
Yet after the finals, she began to foster better relations with her father and cousin as old wounds were revealed and began to heal. It was even Neji who encouraged her to see Naruto off before he left for his two-and-a-half-years long training mission with Jiraiya. She did, but she was still lacking in confidence enough to say goodbye to him. Though she did promise to do her best to become stronger, just like he was.
A year or so after Naruto left, she achieved the rank of chūnin possibly at the same time the rest of the remaining Rookie Twelve did at the age of fourteen. Also, presumably, around the same time, Team Eight was renamed Team Kurenai.
At the beginning of Part II of the series, she was fifteen and still a member of Team Kurenai. However, she did pass out upon seeing Naruto because she wasn't expecting nor was she prepared to see him after his long absence. After this, she wouldn't make an appearance again until the formation of the Eight Man Squad (that included all of Team Kurenai minus Kurenai and plus Kakashi (their temporary sensei as Kurenai is on maternity leave), Naruto, Sai, Sakura and Yamato) to find Itachi.
Soon after arriving in a nearby city looking for him, the eight of them split up to cover more ground. Hinata was placed with Naruto, and soon after they were confronted by Kabuto. With her byakugan, she noticed that one-third of Kabuto had been taken over by the remains of Orochimaru. He would leave Naruto with information on all the Akatsuki members. Later, when they had regrouped and began to follow Sasuke's trail, they were blocked by Tobi. In the battle that ensued, Hinata took on the role of a scout and tracked Tobi's chakra signal. She would then track down the site of Itachi and Sasuke's battle, however they arrived too late and Tobi had already taken both Uchiha, forcing them to return home.
Later when Pein invaded and destroyed Konoha, Hinata is shown to have survived without injury while her bodyguard, Kō, sustained a broken leg. She tried to get him medical help, yet he refused as his job was to ensure her safety. And once she realized that Naruto was fighting Pein all alone, Kō told her not to go because she would only be a burden. As she was beginning to accept his words, Naruto was pinned down by Pein. She decided to intervene even though she knew she didn't have the ability or strength to defeat him. When Naruto told her this and asked why she would still do it, she told him it was because she loved him which greatly shocked him. She was knocked down and stabbed with one of his chakra blades, which enraged Naruto enough to slip into his six-tailed form.
Team Guy would arrive while Naruto fought Pein and rushed her off to Sakura to be healed. When news reached them that Pein had been defeated, she was visibly relieved and was seen smiling as everyone welcomed Naruto back to the village.
Hinata would be seen again during the Five Kage Summit along with the rest of her agemates, save for Team Seven, discussing the Sasuke problem. They all decided that due to Sasuke's criminal actions that they would personally kill him before he could involve him in a war. After Naruto was informed of their intentions and had met with Sasuke, he asked that he be the one to deal with him. They agreed.
And then, she woke up in Paradisa....

Miscellaneous
Edit
- Her given name (Hinata, ヒナタ) can be written with the same kanji as her family name (Hyūga, 日向). Hinata means sunny place, while Hyūga means toward the sun.
- Her hobbies are pressing flowers and creating flower pieces.
- She wants to have a rematch with Neji, and to have a match with her father.
- Her favorite foods are: hors d'oeuvres, cinnamon rolls, red bean paste, meat buns, and soft bean jam. Her least favorite foods are crabs, shrimp, and prawns.
- Her favorite word is "self-confidence" (自信, jishin). Something she's definitely working on.
- Her room in Paradisa looks similar to that of a tradition Japanese house.
- In the manga, her mother is never mentioned or seen.
- In the secret character sketches, Kishimoto describes Hinata's look as "cute, but uncool". She was to look simple, so she wears conservative clothing that is supposed to give a "provincial" feeling. And she is uninterested in fashion: so she looks cute, but in an uncool and unfashionable way.
- Doesn't know how to take compliments.
- Hates people fussing over her.
- Actually capable of talking without stuttering and tripping over her words...unless you happen to be Naruto or you get her deeply embarrassed.
