PERSONALITYEdit

Shinji is a very torn individual. His past has caused it to become very hard for him to make attachments, having never had people truly care for him for very long. Having his father abandon him as a child took a large toll on him – he became reclusive and bitterly shy around strangers. He becomes easily confused when people attempt to befriend him, often thinking there may be some different agenda behind their actions, or that they could possibly be doing something simply to leave him when he’s at his most emotional states. He prefers to be alone rather then run the risk of being hurt by anyone or hurting them in return. It gives him an air of self-pity which, to a great extent, may be true, but he likes to believe that it isn’t. He lives in denial to a good portion of his character flaws.

Shinji likes to believe he’s selfless – he makes it seem that he piloted the Eva Unit 01 simply because he was the only one that could. He makes a large deal about it being his lot in life, not something he wanted to do but something he did to keep the world safe. In reality, the most important thing to him was his father’s approval. He wanted to know that he had done something right in the eyes of the man that he thought had never loved him. Of all people, Ikari Gendo causes the most confusion in Shinji, and the most internal battle. He wants to hate him, he wants to forget the hurt that he has caused him, but his love and acceptance is the one thing that matters most to Shinji. It’s visible whenever Gendo is around, but he tries his best to keep those emotions inside.

He spends a lot of time hiding behind music. He plays the cello, he constantly has his tape player on him, and he tries his best to withdraw through music from overly painful, emotional, or difficult situations. He finds it easier then confronting them, being a very non-confrontational person. He keeps quiet, he tries not to argue, and he often agrees to things just to spare himself grief. It has caused many awkward situations (kissing Asuka being one of the most awkward for him, both from the physical contact he was not at all used to and from her nearly suffocating him in the process) and he really should have learned better by now, but he hasn’t. It also causes him to be heavily apologetic when he doesn’t need to be which only further annoys people.

To put it short, he is a very typical, shy, whiney teenage boy with a hell of lot on his plate to angst over.

• Asuka Langley Soryu ; Asuka and Shinji have possibly the most complicated relationship known to man. They were co-pilots and roommates and he sort of had a crush on her yet hated her all at once. He tried to kill her when he destroyed the world. When he was in Paradisa before, they got closer than ever and began to date. When he returned, she was anything but pleased. They have an almost on-again-off-again friendship, usually spending most of their time arguing, but he cares about her more than anyone for some reason. She's all he has left. And he's not going to fuck it up again. Not on purpose, anyway.
• Nagisa Kaworu ; Shinji's attraction to unhealthy relationships is vast. Kaworu was one of the only people Shinji after cared for right off the bat. He trusted him and even allowed him to touch him when others can not. He is the first person to ever make Shinji feel loved. When he found out he was an Angel, Shinji felt betrayed and angry. Kaworu chose to die rather than destroy the planet because of Shinji and asked him to kill him to allow him that choice. Shinji did it, but regretted it and felt guilty later. When Kaworu came to Paradisa, he was different - far more cruel and seemed to think Shinji hated him. He also had no idea Shinji had killed him or knew of his true origins. When he told him, they fought some, but rekindled their friendship a bit later on before he left. Shinji has such a boycrush on him even if he won't admit it.
• Ayanami Rei ; Look at his record, is this going to be anymore normal? The First Child is someone that Shinji has felt protective of from day one. She is the reason he agreed to pilot, wanting to save her from further injury. She is distant and blunt and sometimes even cold, but Shinji pursued getting to know her. In the end, when she was used to start Instrumentality, she gave the choice to Shinji; something he is both burdened by and glad for. Having her in Paradisa is strange and new; there's something about her that Shinji knows is different, something big in their relationship, but he doesn't know what it is. coughMOMMYcough.
• Ikari Gendo ; He hates his father more than anyone on what used to be his planet, but at the same time, he had never wanted someone's approval so much. He wished he would love him and despised him for not doing so. He blamed him for his mother's death. He wants nothing to do with him but wants to make him proud. Shinji is so fucked up with his Daddy complex and the low self-esteem is all Gendo's fault. 'Seriously.'
• Katsuragi Misato ; Misato was his guardian when he became an Eva pilot. She is the closest thing he's had to a parent since his mother died and he found himself overly attached to her because of it. He knows that most people find her attractive, but she's far too much like a relative for him to really be drooling over. She always was able to snap sense into him and make him realize he was being an ass. When it comes down to it, he probably feels the most guilty for her death and he would do anything to bring her back. He currently takes care of her pet penguin, PenPen.
• Kaji Ryoji ; While he didn't know him well, Kaji was a big part of Misato's life, and because of that, Shinji viewed him as important. He didn't know what it was he was doing with NERV and he didn't really care. He gave him advice on girls and he is probably the coolest guy Shinji has met. Seeing Misato affected by his murder was more painful than anything before.
• Suzuhara Toji ; Toji and he were off to a rocky start, mostly because he blamed Shinji for his sister's injury. Still, they grew to have a strong friendship, and when Toji became a pilot, Shinji was a little shocked. He was glad to have him on the team but he knew that look of fear in his friends eyes. He tried his best to give him support, but when it came down to it, none of it helped. The EVA stored an Angel and in the end, Shinji had to destroy him. He couldn't do it so his father took control of the Unit01 through a computer program and Shinji was forced to watch as his EVA killed one of his best friends in front of him, unable to do anything. He does nothing but blame himself for this.
• Aida Kensuke ; A friend of Shinji's from school. He was dorky and a little strange, but Shinji liked him. He was the first to really treat him with respect and ... normally, rather than as a freak or a hero. He wishes he could have continued their friendship rather than the destroying the planet, but... whatchya gonna do?
• Ikari Yui ; His mother and the one person he thinks ever loved him. He only knew her for a little while but she doted on him far more than his father ever did. When she died, Shinji blamed his father, and he was forced to live with a teacher. He misses her crazily and still thinks about her every day. Her soul was inside of his EVA Unit and protected him fiercely because of it. NGE is so fucked up.
• Horaki Hikari ; The head of the class and one of (if not the only) Asuka's friends. Also Toji's crush. He was supposed to eat lunch with her the day Shinji killed him. WOOPS. I'll write something more in depth about her later.

ParadisaEdit

• Uzumaki Naruto ; A good friend - Shinji was friends with him last time he was in Paradisa and he was very welcoming when he returned. Although his energy overwhelms Shinji, he appreciates his friendship quite a bit, and feels that he may actually. . . understand him, in a way. He is the only one who knows everything about his past and Shinji would like to keep it that way.
• Allen Walker ; Another good friend that knew him before. Allen was the first to help him when he arrived. He and Allen are kind of socially awkward pals. He thinks Allen is quite a lot of fun to be around, even if they don't talk much.
• Lady Marian ; A nice lady that he met when his loss was forcing him to do things. He found out she'd been hurt so he baked her a pie in order to make her feel better. She kind of reminds him of a mom, which makes him nervous, but still want to know her more.
• Yamanaka Ino ; A friend when he first arrived, Ino has been very helpful and very kind to him since he came back. He wishes he weren't so shy because he would probably hang out with her more if he wasn't.
• Zelman Clock ; LMAO UM.
• Rinali Li ; A nice girl that he's met a few times. He wonders why he only meets nice girls in other worlds -_-;
• Erica Hartmann ; A friend. He hasn't spoken to her in a while, but she was very friendly to him during his Ella Enchanted loss.
• Zack Addy ; AWKWARD BOYS UNITE.
• Travis Touchdown ; HE KICKED DOWN HIS DOOR JUST TO SEE PENPEN DRINK BEER >(
• Abel Nightroad ; Gave him cookies and cooked him food. PRETTY SURE HE TAKES SOME DRUGS, but finds him kind of amusing to be around.
• Lucy Pevensie ; She helped him some during the mass Memory Loss and has since been a pretty sweet girl. Is... glad to know someone his height :(
• Zazie ; Purchased him at the Bachelor Auction. Thinks she's really nice.

• Esme Cullen ; She was almost like a second mother. She was sweet and she took care of him when he was sick. He was sad to see her go and wonders if his mother would've been much like her.
• Nia Teppelin ; She too took care of him when she found him in the middle of a rough patch. She was comforting and reassuring. He became extremely attached to her and didn't even mind when she touched him, unlike other people. Knowing she's gone is very hard for him. But he deals.

• December 10, 2008: Arrives in Paradisa.
• January 01, 2009: Gets drunk on New Years. Throws up a lot :(
• January 26, 2009: Ella Enchanted loss. Nearly jumps off the roof because of Asuka.
• February 21, 2009: Sees Kaworu during Dead Space plot.
• February 22, 2009: Hangs out with Zelman, Asuka, and others for the remaining duration of Dead Space plot.
• February 27, 2009: Finally gets a cello from the castle!
• March 26, 2009: Kaworu arrives. Shinji freaks out.
• March 30, 2009: Challenges the whole castle to DDR. Wins most of matches.
• April 02, 2009: Tells Kaworu about killing him. Figures out this Kaworu isn't quite like the Kaworu he used to know.
• April 05, 2009: PenPen arrives and lives in Shinji's freezer in his room!
• June 06, 2009: Shinji's birthday. Everyone forgets :( He angsts over it a little before deciding to back himself a cake.
• July 01, 2009: Kaworu goes home :( Shinji has a break down over it with Naruto and they fight. Naruto stays with him that night ;;
• August 19, 2009: Returns from a month long absence after the murders by the one doctor take place. Was freaking out from all the death. All his friends are none too happy :(
• August 29, 2009: Signed up for the Bachelor Auction by Naruto and bought by Zazie after a huge bidding war with Mai and Asuka.
• September 04, 2009: Goes on his date with Zazie.
• September 11, 2009 - September 13, 2009: Loses his memory with the rest of the castle. Finds a memory of Naruto when he tried to encourage Gaara to be a better person. Had memories brought to him by many people, including Asuka, who he also found a memory for. They matched; his was of his last conversation with Misato while hers was her final battle during said conversation. They get into a huge fight and stop talking to each other :(
• September 16, 2009: Asuka has Mai burn down his door? WTF?
