The Pumpkin King of Halloween Town has the manners of a perfect gentleman and possess the curiosity of a five year old child. He is utterly devoted to his friends and the town, but Jack can never sit still. With his skull always buzzing with questions and ideas it hard enough to get him to stay still long enough to go over plans for holiday celebrations. The town itself isn't big enough for him to roam about either. He would take days of time to wander through the haunted woods that would lead to the Holiday Trees. These doors, of course, are horribly tempting for him to go through even after the Christmas calamity. Jack has an insatiable appetite when it comes to learning and making new discoveries. He's a very hands on sort of fellow. Not to mention the fact that he is a kleptomaniac. Directors said so in the movie commentary! If he sees something he's never seen before he'll take it to study and examine. That snow mobile full of toys and decorations from Christmas Town were definitely not a parting gift from the little elves.
For a tall skeleton, he doesn't seem too frightening or intimidating at first. It is rare for one to ever see Jack as truly terrifying. The only time it was ever seen in the movie was when he startled Lock, Shock and Barrel so much they stopped squabbling. He is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town for a reason though. His reputation proceeds him to the furthest corners of several countries, including England and France! And he is well educated too - after all, he does read Shakespeare. But Jack is a good man, or skeleton, in the end. In his own way he cares deeply for Sally, treasuring her company over everyone else, and values his friendship with Santa Claus after the whole ordeal.
