Edit
There are probably a thousand stories like Jet's.
It starts like this: he is born into a small, quiet village in the Earth Kingdom, the only, much-loved son of a mine-worker and an injured ex-solider. He is a lively, animated child, who loves playing and laughing and exploring, especially in the nearby forest. His days are filled with school, his various stunts and capers, games with friends, and the love of his firm, but kindly parents. The war is nothing but a distant threat in his mind, a far away hazard.
Until it is right on his doorstep.
When Jet is only eight years old, the Rough Rhinos, an elite group of Fire Nation cavalry, lead a raid into his village. They lay waste to the entire town, burning, terrorising, killing. When the fire dies down and the smoke clears, there are few survivors. Jet's parents are dead, and he becomes one of the many orphans of the war, irrevocably scarred by the experience.

Added by Sahara StormHere, the story changes.
Not much is known of how exactly Jet spent the next eight years, but one thing is clear: he survived. His parents' deaths and his village's destruction traumatised him greatly, but Jet the child held on to his pain and locked it inside, using it to fuel his way forward. He eked out a living in the forest, stealing, foraging, hunting, doing whatever he had to survive. He learnt to live in the trees, the ins and outs of the forest. Furthermore, he learnt how to defend himself. His father's tigerhead hook swords were the only mementos left to him; bit by bit, he learnt how to use them.
He wasn't alone. Over the years, he met other children, like him. Kids who'd had their lives swept out from under them, their families killed and their homes destroyed, all because of the Fire Nation. With them, he formed a ragtag group of Freedom Fighters. With himself at the helm, they would do all they could to fight, waylay, and destroy the Fire Nation.
Jet's hatred of the Fire Nation ran deep. His parents' deaths had scarred him in a way that perhaps he himself did not realise. Getting rid of the Fire Nation was the most important thing to him; more important than his morality, more important than the lives of innocents. Jet and the Freedom Fighters had set themselves up in a sprawling network of treehouses in a forest near a captured village. They were working on a way to "free" this village when Aang, Sokka, and Katara came into their lives.
Jet liked them; they were gutsy and smart. He liked what they could do for him even better. He began working on a way to get them to help him carry out his plan, even while he wooed Katara. His story was that he wanted them to fill the dam so that they could fight the fires that the Fire Nation was going to set in the forest. The reality was that he wanted to flood out the village, ridding the valley of the firebenders -- as well as scores of innocent people -- forever.
Unfortunately for him, Sokka caught on to his plan, and so did the others, after a while. After a vicious fight in the forest, Aang and Katara came out on top, while Sokka managed to warn the villagers of Jet's plan. Everyone, the troops and the villagers, came out of it alive. The Avatar and his friends left Jet frozen to a tree with his plan in shambles and a lot to think about.
Fast forward, a few months. The Freedom Fighters have split up, most likely stemming from an argument over the incident. Jet, along with his two most loyal friends, Smellerbee and Longshot, decide to travel to Ba Sing Se, where they can start over, have a new life, and hopefully make up for the mistakes that they made in the past.
then jet meets zuko, develops a gigantic crush on him and he's all like "wanna come back to my place" and zuko's all like "non................" and jet's all like "qurrrrrrl omg hdu reject me" and then he starts plotting to get zuko thrown in jail for breaking his heart but then he gets captured and brainwashed and he meets katara and the others again and then he dies and shows up in para
i'll finish this laterrrrr fuck history sections /flips tables
**oh yeah all that stuff about his parents is headcanon?? obviously.
» personality
Edit
Jet is confident. He is completely assured of himself and everything he does; he rarely second-guesses or missteps. He knows what he wants, and he knows how to get it. He isn’t completely cocky; he knows his limits and he’s smart and patient enough to be a good tactician. Nevertheless, it’s hard to come across someone who’s more self-assured.
He’s stubborn and has a bit of a one-track mind. While he’s not entirely unreasonable, he can sometimes become so determined and impassioned about what he wants to do that he fails to see reason, or the truth. Jet keeps a cool head most of the time, but he can lose it if pushed. That temper ends up getting him into a lot of tricky situations.
Cunning makes up a large part of Jet’s personality. Growing up like he did, he learned a lot about fighting, war, tactics and leadership, and he uses it to get by. He’s a top notch fighter, skilled with both his hook swords and his hands. In the right situation, he can be completely and utterly ruthless, and he has no qualms about exploiting weaknesses or making the necessary sacrifices, whatever the case may be.

Added by Sahara StormIn many ways, Jet is a product of his experiences: the deaths of his parents and the destruction of his village. He wants all the right things – freedom for the peoples of the Earth Kingdom, justice for all the wrongs committed against them, the downfall of the Fire Nation – but the events of his past have embittered him so much that now, the differences between right and wrong are no longer quite as clear to him. He wants to do good, he wants to uphold the ideals of freedom and fairness, but his hatred can get in the way of that. It is something that he has promised his freedom fighters that he will work on – going straight, not hurting innocents for some ‘greater good’, not allowing his anger and hatred of the Fire Nation to consume him – but it doesn’t come very easily to him. As evidenced by the events of Ba Sing Se, Jet isn’t the quickest to let things go.
Jet’s also pretty good at convincing others, coaxing them into sharing his beliefs. One could call it charm, and he’s not afraid to use it. According to Pipsqueak: “Jet’s a great leader. We follow what he says, and things always turn out okay.” This says a lot about how Jet used to lead his gang, and how he defines leadership, and also how good he is at simply getting people to go along with what he wants. His methods have changed a bit; or at least, he’s working on it.
He puts a lot of stock and store into trust and loyalty, and he expects it to go both ways. His Freedom Fighters are almost an extension of himself like that: he counts on them in everything, and they will follow him to the grave.
Outside of the matters of war/freedom fighting, Jet’s a pretty easy going, friendly guy. He’s charming, laidback, and funny, and will get along with just about anyone. He’s arrogant, yes, but very committed to his friends, and he wants to help people. All in all, he’s a pretty good guy.
Once you’re not Fire Nation scum.

Edit

Added by Sahara Storm- Swordplay: Jet uses tiger head hook swords; deadly and efficient blades. They are three weapons in one: the pronged ends, the arced, bladed hilts at the fist, and the spearheads above them. Though most likely self taught, he is very skilled with them, using and adapting them according to his opponent and his environment.
- Other weaponry: He is also knowledgeable in the use of daggers, short swords, and poison darts.
- Agility: Jet is almost ridiculously limber, flexible, and acrobatic. He leaps from branch to branch in the trees, swings from from high places without a care, performs all kind of aerials and flips in the midst of battle, scales vertical surfaces like nobody's business... He's got a lot more physical prowess than you'd expect from the average guy his age.
- Good tactician/strategist: Jet led the Freedom Fighters for many years, planning and coordinating their battles and skirmishes. Though he has no formal training whatsoever, and obviously has a lot to learn, he was good enough at it that they remained un-captured while they were in operation.

canon
Edit
- Smellerbee: Left hand woman. One of his Freedom Fighters and best friends. He can trust her and talk to her about most things, and she tries her best to talk sense into him when things go sideways. She, most of all, wanted to start over.
- Longshot: Right hand man. His other best friend. Longshot understands and takes in everything around him, which is one of the reasons why he's invaluable to Jet. He's also just a really good bro, and they get each other. He remained loyal to the end.
- Aang: The Avatar, huh? Very nice. It would be pretty hard not to like Aang; he's a good kid and he's going to save the world. During his last moments, Aang helped him fight against Long Feng's influence by reminding him who he was.
- Katara: Jet liked Katara. He really did. But she did get all -- understandably -- worked up over the fact that he used her to try to flood out an entire village of innocent people, and played with her emotions. Aha... Nevertheless, they reconciled when they met in Ba Sing Se (though it took her a while), and she tried her best to help him when he was dying. It's not her fault she forgot she had super special spirit water on her. Haha, anyway, in Paradisa they are chill, and friendly.
- Sokka: Jet totally does not hold a grudge over the fact that Sokka ruined his awesome plan. He's a cool guy (not as cool as Jet) and in the long run, he's grateful for what Sokka did.
- Zuko: Asshole.

- Rin: Your face is gonna stick like that.
- Kuchiha: Girl why are you so mad all the time.
- Tamaki: Your mancrush on me is adorable but dude relax.
» trivia
Edit
- He's got a depowered Arcanine named Dro, whom he acquired in the Pokemon plot back during his first stay in Paradisa. Dro is very chill and proud and wise, and intensely loyal.
- Jet is always seen with a little stalk of wheat/grass in his mouth. It’s probably something that he picked up when he was young, just started training himself to be a leader, and was trying to make himself look cool. It could also be indicative of the fact that he prefers to keep his mouth and hands busy.
- He is obviously some kind of magician, because when his swords are not in his hands, they are nowhere to be seen on his person.
