History
Edit
John was born in 1873, his mother was a whore and his Scottish immigrant father is implied to have been her pimp. John’s mother died in childbirth and his father died when he was only 8 years old. He was placed into an orphanage, where he met his future wife, Abigail, before running away.
He was taken in by a gang led by Dutch Van Der Linde, who taught him how to read, shoot and how to become an outlaw. John grew up with the gang, claiming them to be his ‘family’. They robbed trains, banks and committed murder just to name a few crimes, all the time John trying to tell himself they were doing Robin Hood-esque work, taking from those who could afford and giving to those who could not.
After a bank robbery gone wrong, John was shot, and his brothers in arms left him to die. John survived and turned his back on the outlaw life for good, purchasing a small ranch, Beecher’s Hope, and settling down with his wife and son. During this time he also had a daughter, who’s name and cause of death are never mentioned. While he was settling into his new life, Edgar Ross, a newly appointed head of the newly created federal bureau of investigation, cam upon John’s ranch. Ross kidnapped John’s wife and son, threatening that harm would come to them if John didn’t hunt down his old gang members and kill them.
So John headed off in his search, inadvertently having to help others in order to get to his goal. He got caught up in the Mexican Revolution, and then in the growing friction between the Native Americans and the settlers. Busy guy.
Personality
Edit
John is a very serious man; he very rarely laughs, and often fails to see the humour in things that others laugh at. When he does use humour, it’s often very dry gallows humour. Though he can read, he’s not well educated beyond that, relying on his other skills to survive. He’s a testament to the old west, during 1911, a time when technology and a new order of law keeping were encroaching on the old way of life. Train tracks cover the land where only horses were the mode of transportation, and the automobile is newly created. He’s a dying breed, and he knows it only too well.
To those who treat him well, John will act in kind, and will always repay any debt he feels he owes, sometimes going beyond what is asked of him if those on his side are brought into trouble by befriending him. He’s also exceptionally polite towards women, regardless of their way of life.
Despite this, John also has no qualms of letting people know when he doesn’t like them, particularly if they’re testing his patience. He’s often blunt and never pads his words. Though he no longer wishes to live the outlaw life, he will kill if it’s required, and is a skilled marksman. He feels remorse after the deed, even if the people forcing him to shoot in the first place were a risk to his own life.
Weapons and other helpful things
Edit
- These are the weapons John has with him from his current canonpoint: Lasso (Useless thanks to his loss), Hunting Knife, Throwing Knives, Cattleman Revolver, Schofield Revolver, Repeater Carbine, Winchester Repeater, High Power Pistol, Rolling Block Rifle. – He tends to only carry two guns on him at any one time, a pistol/revolver and rifle/shotgun.
- John also has on his person or in his pack: A rabbit’s foot, a bandolier and materials to make a campsite with.
- He’s a freakishly good shot. As in, it’s like time has slowed down as he shoots bullets at people’s heads freakishly well. (CoughDeadEyeCough)
- John has the swimming ability of a rock. A big, heavy rock.
- How he got his scars is a mystery, all he says is he didn’t get them ‘falling over in a church’
- He can speak very, very basic Spanish.
- He's an albeit reluctant member of the Paradisa Host Club
- The castle brought him the unicorn from his 'nightmare world' as a Christmas gift. When it stands still, butterflies flutter up from the ground, and when it runs,
it farts rainbowsit leaves a rainbow trail. It lives in the stables.
Relationships
Edit
Canon
Edit
- Abigail Marston – His wife and love of his life. An ex-whore, she’s as fiery as hell and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
- Jack Marston – His teenage son, who’s got John’s headstrong running-into-danger-like-an-idiot gene. Yeaaah.
- Uncle – Not really his uncle. Left in charge of the ranch while John goes on his missions. Probably a bad idea on John’s part.
- Abraham Reyes – The rebel leader of Mexico. Used women as sex toys and to spread his seed around Mexico. Massive jackass.
- Bonnie McFarlane - A ranch owner’s daughter who saves John’s life after his first encounter with Williamson. A devoted friend who he rescues from hanging.
- Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch Van Der Linde – His old brothers in arms. He has to hunt them down to keep his family safe.
- Edgar Ross – The bureau agent who kidnapped his family. HATESOMUCHHATE.
- Irish – An annoying drunk who consistently fails to help in any conceivable way.
- Landon Ricketts- A legend of the West, Ricketts trained John in the finer art of shooting while in Mexico.
- Leigh Johnson – Marshal of Armadillo, dry witty and a decent human being.
- Loisa Fortuna- A teenage revolutionary in Mexico. In love with Reyes, she dies for his cause, while he never remembers her name.
- Nigel West Dickens – A conman selling fake tonic. Helped John get into Fort Mercer. Nearly got John killed multiple times getting there.
- Professor Harold MacDougal – Studier of the Native Americans and an opium addict. John kept him alive every time they ran into one another.
- Seth Briars – A crazy fool looking for treasure who gets a little too close to dead people than law or decency really allows.
- Vincent de Santa – Captain of the Mexican army and a complete and utter dick.
Paradisa
Edit
- Doctor Brennan – She’s very literal-minded, and calls a spade a spade. She doesn’t seem to believe all the magic of Paradisa, either.
- Emil – Blind kid. John’s been teaching him how to survive in the wilderness despite his disability.
- Harmony – Strange girl. She’s extremely interested in his unicorn.
- Ianto – A very helpful man, but his accent makes John want to kick puppies. Sorry, man.
- John – The other John. He’s a good kid. They get filter confusion a lot because their friends are idiots.
- Justina – An adorable little girl who’s...apparently married. And royalty.
- Kaylee – If he mentally blocks out the fact she lives on a spaceship in the future, she’s the closest thing to ‘home’ he has. He adores her like the little sister he never had. Mess with her and he’ll put a bullet in your head.
- Mindy – Opinionated little kid. Still, he has a soft spot for youngsters, so he’s content to spend some time talking to her.
- Pinkie Pie – Talking horse that attached to him and will never leave him alone. He’s got at least semi-used to the fact a horse is talking back to him now. He has a feeling she has...special issues.
- Sora – John has skills in collecting really strange kids. He’s a cheerful one, if a bit prone to running headlong into danger.
- Spike – An entirely different sort of cowboy, another bounty hunter. Still, he’s proven himself to be okay in John’s book, regardless of the fact he sometimes avoids direct questioning. Everyone has their secrets, after all.
- Stephanie – Friendly gal. She seems one of those superhero types that jump to action every time the castle has something threaten it.
- Tamaki – The annoying strange boy who somehow conned him into joining the Host Club. John thinks he’s the type of fella who lies with other fellas. The petals are a dead giveaway.
- Vereesa – They went to promcoming together in Lumpy Space. Have decided to start afresh and pretend that never happened.
- Yuki – Bit of a strange one. Knows a lot about those ‘computer’ things.
- Zoe – Another one of the Serenity crew. Got a good head on her shoulders, this one. She’s practically family. Snarky family with guns, but still family.
