Kaito is a VOCALOID: a computerized, musical and singing synthesizing program. Each Vocaloid has their own personality that is more or less fanon made and seen as semi-canon by the official developers but this still does not stop people with the VOCALOID software to make their own storyline and songs and personalities for the VOCALOIDs.

So when it comes right down to it a VOCALOID's personality is what its Master (the person at the computer) makes it or they can just choose extend upon the actual personality to fit their own needs. But it is more or less common knowledge that a VOCALOID isn't a heartless machine. They all are able to feel emotions - may it be love, joy, sadness, or even jealousy. They are also fully capable of eating and sleep too. The only real difference between Kaito and a real person is that he was programmed to be an entertainer and entertain he does.

With Kaito his initial personality kind of fits the stereotype of the lovable idiot. So, more or less, he's not the brightest crayon in the box but he can be rather sharp every now and then. He's a happy kind of a guy who's quick to smile and tries his best to always look on the brighter side of things; especially when it comes to the entertainment business. Because once upon a time ago Kaito had not been getting too much attention, unlike his fellow VOCALOID family, and it was all thanks to a request from Miku Hatsune, which was followed up by his own response back to her, that got him to become just a little more popular with others. It also was the debut of his character item being recognized as ice cream.

And ice cream is one thing that he seems to have one odd obsession over.

Also, Kaito is said to be one of the hardest VOCALOIDs to tame in the sense of getting his voice to sound less-synthesized and more human-ish. This might chalk up to the reasons why Kaito seems to be such a quiet and shy person and doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in himself. Though a few helpful words - whether they are by his Master or others - usually gives him the boost that he needs to get the work done.Kaito is also viewed as the older-brother figure of the VOCALOID group, even if they aren't technically related to one another. But being the older brother doesn't really mean much. He seems to get the brunt end of everyone's beatings and abuse. Especially from Len and Rin, who often chase him down or run him over with their Roda-Rolla Road Roller.

However, there is another aspect of Kaito's personality that should be noted (especially since he's coming from the KAITO ga UNINSTALL PV). This is a bit more of the dark and obsessed side that lies under the happy guy exterior. It's rarely - if ever - seen but it's there and it will come out if provoked. Or he feels like someone is stepping over a few boundaries that ought not be stepped across.

As mention before, Kaito has a strong obsession for ice cream but it's rivaled by the one he has for his Master; this obsession is clearly, very unhealthy. It gets to the point in which seeing the other VOCALOIDs interacting and taking up his Master's time slowly starts to wear down the facade he had and it gets harder and harder for him to pretend that he doesn't know just what anger is.

Keeping up the mask of an idiot can be pretty tough, sometimes.

The obsession goes so far as that it seems to take a firm hold over him and causes him to "uninstalls" the other VOCALOIDs, as so that he will be the only one that Master will look at and love. Because he honestly does not believe that the others cherish and love Master just as much as he does.

Though, as mentioned before, it's this side of his personality that is rarely shown because being a cold-blooded killer all the time wouldn't look good at all for his image. Nor would his fans probably be too happy that he wound up uninstalling all the other VOCALOIDs if word ever got out.

ModesEdit

NORMAL - Default mode. In Normal Mode, Kaito is that lovable idiot and easy to pushover big brother of the Vocaloid family unit. He usually shirks his duties of practicing to look up and watch Nico Nico videos, sometimes with the other Vocaloids (usually Miku), other times just on his own time. Kaito is also easy to lure and take advantage of, not to mention he tends to take most abuse (verbal or physical - which he's becoming more and more accustomed to thanks to the family unit) with a grain of salt and shrug it off with a good natured smile or laugh. It's seems to be a little hard for Kaito to hold any sort of hard feelings when it comes to other people.

Other times, however, depending on the severity of the issue he may start whining, turn a bit gloomy, or just get rather huffy and talk back. When this happens don't worry. It's normal behavior because someone can only push him too far before something just...snaps.

WARNING: If pushing Kaito too hard or just screwing around with his feelings - which, by default, means showing interest in him, leading him on, and outright ignoring/throwing him away - then Yandere Mode might be activated.

bakaito - Sub-mode 1. In which Kaito becomes even more of an idiot and pushover. Unlike the default 'normal' mode, this sub-mode might also include the lack of clothes, the only thing that could even (slightly) cover his body being his scarf. It really doesn't help much. Once out of this mode, there will be much embarrassment to be had and probably even some sobbing.

It's best just to forget that this mode had even been initiated in the first place. By both Kaito and the people involved.

yandere - Sub-mode 2. This is one of the rarest modes that Kaito will ever enter, but it can be easily provoked if not careful. If a person (whether it be a Master or otherwise) Kaito's loyalty and affection with readily increase. Quickly. Usually it's well advised that people give Kaito compliments and try not to get too close to him, though if people attempt a closeness then they ought just be ready to show a lot of affection. He will also get rather possessive of the person. Very possessive. It borders "I'm the only one for this person" and "No one else loves this person as much as me" sort of thoughts and fantasies.

If he gets ignored for a certain amount of time and a person's attention focuses on another person or group of people, Yandere!mode just might activate. There are various ways of him to go about showing his distaste and dislike towards the others, all while keeping up the Normal/Bakaito appearance and behavior. He may just pull light pranks that can be brushed off as "Oh, I'm sorry! I must not have seen you there." or just plain accidents; if things become extreme, then he may cause harm to the person or people - the lightest being a physical attack that's nothing more than a flesh wound and the heaviest? Well...let's just say that a person may not be coming back for awhile.

Usually, however, Kaito is very good at not entering this mode. It's only happened once and it's not like he's going to actively tell someone about it.

SLEEP/HIBERNATE - Depending on just how low his energy is, Kaito will either be able to function like normal - albeit a little more sluggishly - or will go into Hibernation mode automatically. While he has trouble putting himself into this, as well as Shut Down, it's easy for other people to do it. The controls for it are on the back of his neck. There are two buttons - one for Sleep/Hibernation and the other for Shut Down, and a few others for odds and ends; there is also a slot located just above this lovely little bunch of buttons and controls. That'll be explained shortly.

He will also go into this mode automatically when charging. His appearance will appear, if sitting, slouched and as if he's actually sleeping. If standing he will take to leaning against a wall and by some disrespect of the physics of gravity, he'll be able to stay that way completely until all levels are recharged.

SHUT DOWN - Unlike Sleep and Hibernation Mode, this is when his system completely shuts down if he hasn't gotten around to recharging himself. He'll be completely unresponsive and appear like a pure dead man. Best unit of action is to get him to a computer or some other terminal of sorts and plug him into it. He already comes with the necessary cables and such; the back of his neck has an area for a plug or other things. Half-powered recharge should take three to four hours at best. For maximum power, then at least give him a day. Or just feel to let him sleep; it'll take longer than being plugged into something to charge but, eventually, he'll be back to full power.

...also? If he's becoming too annoying (by being persistent about ice cream or whining because he can't find his scarf/everyone ate the ice cream/he's just being STUPID) then feel free to shut him down on your own. No one can really blame you for doing it.

RESTART - Sometimes Kaito's system tends to reboot itself on its own. Maybe because he got a little too thoughtful on certain subject matters - this is what usually causes his "headaches" - or he hit an error while doing a search through his memory or song base. Don't worry if he suddenly grows relatively quiet during conversation and carries a rather blank look. He'll be back to normal quickly enough!

• Kaito tends to be more oriented - if it's any indications through a few PVs and fanarts - towards playing the piano or the guitar.
• When I say he gets abused by the other VOCALOIDS? I honestly can't make this shit up. No, seriously.

  • Going along with this, the guy's also got a few parody songs out there of other VOCALOID's music: ICE! (Parody's of Len's "Spice!") and AISU ga MERUTO (Parody of Miku's Melt!) are just a few.
• If there is a song not located in his song database, Kaito will be unable to sing it and if he even attempts it? It will probably either overload his system or will just sound like a machine's gears grinding to a violent halt. So one's best bet - if they want to hear a song - is to give him the genre and he'll do his best to find a suitable song from that.
• He's more used to following orders than giving them out. So if anyone was to tell him to do something? He'll do it without too much hesitation.
• Default search engine is Google (of which he refers to as "Google-sensei/Teacher Google.")
• His Master is male.
• There are times when he his obsession doesn't stop with just ice cream or his Master. Sometimes he'll hit a Sister Complex and grow overly affectionate of Miku. Rin and Meiko also have a likely percentage of finding SisCon happening to them, as well.
• The blue just doesn't stop at his clothing and hair. He even has his fingernails painted blue. True facts.
• Although his are more or less artificial, Kaito has working organs just like everyone else; his heart beats, he's fully capable of getting headaches (which is just from over processing thoughts or running into database errors), and can produce bodily fluids - saliva and blood (and if you wanna hit the 'H' territory then, yes, that as well). He also feels pain, love, and other such emotions.
• Feel free to call him a robot or an android, if you'd like, since that's more or less what he actually is. He's just so used to seeing/reading Vocaloids being called a software/a computer program that it's become second nature for him to refer to it as such. He's such a fail :(
• He's relatively intelligent, but tends to say stupid shit sometimes. May also stutter from time to time. Not to mention he has a bad habit of talking to himself.
