History
Edit
Lorne was born Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan in the dimension known as Pylea. A land of no music where humans were treated as slaves, Lorne was always seen as a freak and outsider there. Even more so when he could hear music that shouldn’t have existed. His parents hated him, to the point where his father wanted to eat him. He accidentally came upon a porthole and got sucked into L.A on Earth. Here he realised he fitted right in, and set up a karaoke bar called Caritas. He used Caritas as a way to set people on their right path in life. It was through this work he met Angel, Wesley and Cordelia. When Cordy was sucked into Pylea, Lorne reluctantly went with the team to rescue her, bringing Fred home with them. He learned his family had thrown a party when they’d assumed he’d committed suicide, which was real nice of them. After that, Lorne spent more and more time with the team, and after his bar was destroyed (again) he moved into the Hyperion and stayed there permanently, especially looking after the baby Connor.
The one time he spent away from them was when he went to Las Vegas. Unfortunately his boss was a nutjob who kept him in a cage and forced him to find destines to steal. The Fang Gang rescued him but..yeah. Lorne has issues with Las Vegas.
He even moved with them across to Wolfram and Hart, though working for the bad guy put a toll on even his cheerful and upbeat attitude, which only got worse when Fred, whom he was always very close to, died. When their final battle happened, Lorne was the one Angel asked to murder Lindsey McDonald, someone who, if given the opportunity to run Wolfram and Hart, would make things ten times worse. After he did the deed, Lorne wandered off alone, only to get picked up by the castle, his memories of Lindsey being erased.
Abilities
Edit

Anagogic abilities
Destiny reading: “What's today? Thursday? Tomorrow night, the world's going to end. I thought you might want to know.” Lorne can read people’s destinies (their past, present and certain glimpses into their future) when they sing, hum or whistle in his presence. He’s been able to read soulless creatures like Angelus, so it’s more about reading a person’s aura than their actual soul. He only seems to see so far into the future (a year at most) and as he always reiterates to people, destiny is something that can change on a dime. There’s no guarantee that what he’ll see is definitely going to happen. The destinies he reads are also prevalent to whoever he’s reading, he can’t read one person to learn the destiny of another unless both parties have intertwined destinies. He can also use this skill to tell if someone is lying to him or others.
Empathy: Lorne can sense the emotional state of others, even when they’re doing a good poker face. This gets stronger if people sing, or in emotional distress but it’s not mandatory.
Side effect: This power comes with a bad side effect. If he doesn’t sleep, thus letting his brain rest from all the information it gathers from other people’s destinies, his powers switch around. He begins to create destinies instead, having the power of suggestion. He tells someone to do something, and they do. “Everything he's told us to do, we're doing. Spike's thinking positive; Gunn is peeing all over the office.” They don’t STOP doing what he’s told them to do until his sleep has been restored.
Another side effect of this is that his that his subconscious manifests as a separate entity, a hulking, angry deadly creature. This seems to act out all the violence that Lorne himself will not, possibly a manifestation of his species natural tendencies which Lorne represses. This creature is unbeatable, but will vanish once Lorne’s sleep is restored
Physical abilities
Durability: Deathwok demons are REALLY hard to kill. It seems the only way to really do it is tearing them apart, or having them poisoned by the venom of a Drakken, a creature native to Pylea. They can also survive beheading, so long as the body is not mutilated afterwards, the head continues to talk and interact normally without being attached to the body. “My people, the fun-loving Deathwok clan, you cut off our heads we just keep on ticking until you mutilate our bodies.” Reattaching is easily done, and leaves no permanent damage. Lorne also survives being tortured and having a piece of his brain ripped out in order to remove a destiny he saw – though he needed some time to recuperate from this.
Enhanced senses: His species can hear sounds at decibels the human ear cannot, he could even hear the hum of electronic bugs in the Hyperion. He also has a piercing voice, which can reach decibels high enough to break glass.
Other: He’s immune to the effects of alcohol. He hints at being able to move very quickly during a confrontation with Eve, faster than two vampires at that: “If I hear one note—one quarter-note—that tells me you had any involvement, these two won't even have time to kill you.”
Personality
Edit
Despite his violent species, Lorne is a gentle soul. To say he says the world in shades of grey wouldn’t be exactly right. Rather, he sees the world in fabulous Technicolor. Everyone, in his mind, is a special snowflake, and regardless of what they do or have done deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. He never judges, after all when you can see into everyone’s soul you’d have to chose between judging everyone or no one at all.
Lorne is cheerful and outgoing, though often with a touch of sarcasm that can be biting at times. He loves almost everyone, and isn’t ashamed to say it. He constantly calls people by pet names, if they want him to or not.
He drinks cocktails, especially Sea Breezes. Unfortunately, his demonic metabolism won’t let him get drunk on regular alcohol. He’s quite the gossip hound, though he’ll NEVER divulge what he sees when a person sings. He loves to sing, and to hear other people sing, music is his life and he would be a gibbering wreak without it. Whatever you call a male diva, this is what Lorne is.
There is a darker side to the demon, though. When upset, he very rarely shows it. He feels the need to keep up a happy act, in an attempt to make his friends and loved ones feel better. As a result, it’s hard for anyone to know how he’s really feeling at any given time. Ironic, for an empathy really.
Other Things
Edit
- Thanks to the Jurassic Park plot, he has a crippling fear of dinosaurs.
- He has his crossbow from a previous Christmas, I forget which because I am fail.
- His heart is located in his left buttcheek.
Relationships
Edit

Canon
Edit
- Angel - Angel-Cakes!! Despite being dragged unwillingly into Angel’s world, Lorne loves the vampire to bits, and would do anything asked of him…even if he might complain about it for a bit. He’s always trying to lighten the vampire up, and keep him from forgetting what his mission is.
- Buffy – One pretty awesome Slayer right there. Lorne adores her and treats her as if he’s known her for years.
- Connor - ‘Booglah’ or ‘Kiddo’, usually. Angel and Darla’s son, Lorne looked after Connor a lot when he was a baby, while the rest of the team did their thing. Sees him as a nephew.
- Cordeila - He was convinced to go to Pylea to help get her home. He’s very fond of her, and has always stayed a faithful friend, even in the darker times.
- Eve - She is probably the only person in the world that Lorne actively hates. She pissed about with their minds and crossed the line when Fred died. No love, Eve. None at ALL.
- Faith - Faithie! He met her when she came to deal with Angelus, and nursed her to health when she was suffering the effects of the Orpheus drug.
- Fred - ‘Freddles’ or ‘Sunshine’. Oh Fred. He absolutely adores her, she knows what it’s like to spend a significant time in Pylea. He loves her dearly, and it was her death and spiralled him into his ‘dark period’. His best friend in the whole world.
- Gunn - ‘Slick’. The demon-hunter that used to have huge problems with spending time with a demon, but they soon grew to be close friends.
- Harmony - ‘Harmonica!’ They share gossip, fashion advice, all sorts. They’re gal-pals…in a weird and twisted sort of way.
- Illyria - ‘Bluebird’. The demon god that took away Fred’s body and killed her. He tolerates her, but the whole Fred thing is still a sore point for him.
- Lilah - ‘Suck-u-Bitch’. Lilah took a piece of Lorne’s brain out once, removing a dangerous vision. Lorne’s never forgiven her for this and dislikes her with a firey passion, though he did TRY to when she showed up at the Castle. And look, she's back.
- Lindsey – This guy is his loss. Lorne knows he shoots him, but he avoided saying this to Lindsey in his time in Paradisa. Lorne actually liked this guy, and the thought of killing him troubles Lorne even more than when he hadn’t met Lindsey.
- Mom - Lets just not go there, EVER. Same with his brother, Numfar and his cousin, Landok.
- Spike - ‘Sparkles’. Though he hasn’t known him as long as everyone else, Lorne’s still fond of the Brit vamp. He's come back! And has...no idea who Lorne is. Eh, he can work on that.
- Wesley - It’s all Wesley’s fault Lorne got brought into the Fang Gang, but he doesn’t begrudge him for it. He’s often concerned when Wesley gets broody and goes into his ‘full strength crazy’ mode.
- Willow - Met her when she came to L.A to do the re-souling spell. She’s awesome, and fixes up the spells in Caritas for him. Rock on, witchy woman.
- Xander – Lorne sees a lot of himself in Xander, given their 'cheerleader' position in their respective groups. As such, Xander is seen as pretty damn awesome, and Lorne always has time for him.
Paradisa
Edit
Lorne likes everyone he speaks to. Just about. THIS IS SO OUT OF DATE IF I’VE MISSED YOU, JUST PUT YOURSELF IN, OR TELL ME, SERIOUSLY.
- Barney - A fellow lover of karaoke. They met in person during the Dead Space Plot, this guy is Lorne’s brother from another mother. He’d do anything for him.
- Evangeline - A vampire mage. They were trapped together during that whole T-Rex incident. It’s amazing how near death experiences bring people together.
- Jilly-Bean – She’s such a cheery little artist, she lights up a room when she’s around, and Lorne thinks that’s one heck of a great character trait.
- Larry – A singer in Caritas, he's a great guy, Lorne's happy to have him in the 'family'.
- Justina – Such a cutie! A waitress in Caritas.
- Peter - Well, hey, another empath! Peter was the first resident he did a proper Reading of, and tried to set him back on the right path. One of Lorne’s best friends outside his own world.
- Rory - This poor guy is a machine who remembers what it’s like to be human. Lorne is determined to find something he can drink that his system will allow.
- Sakaki - She’s a little sweetheart, and so polite. Lorne’s adopted her into his chosen family and does his best to cheer her up when the castle gets crazy and/or nasty.
- Sora – Cutest little boy...ever. Lorne wants to keep him forever.
- Sweets - Not the demon. A psychiatrist who became a member of the Caritas staff while on a loss. Lorne thinks he’s a-ok.
- Sylvanas – Lorne does love the dark and brooding types, and she fits this to a T. He’ll always try and make light of things with her, even if she wants to sit and brood. It’s what he does. He’s currently giving her sanctuary in the back room of Caritas.
- Tamaki – STRANGE BOY. Lorne employed him then instantly regretted it. There's no getting rid of him. Ever.
- Ukitake – A real sweetheart, with a beautiful voice and just as awesome personality. Lorne teases him sometimes with his pet names, and enjoys making Uki flail and blush, but he’ll always have Uki’s corner.
- York and Delta – Hey, Delta knows what it’s like to be green. Lorne adores these guys and appreciates York’s sense of humour. York’s had some tough times, but Lorne tries to offer words of encouragement (and alcohol, that’s important) to help him see it through. He hopes it works.
