Chloe (to Clark): "There's a lot about Lana that you don't know. I mean, you don't hear her crying in her room at three o'clock in the morning. What you see is just a mask."
"Do you ever wish that you could go back in time and...everything would be different?"
"Legal" Name: Lana Luthor (née Lang) Age: 21 in-game Birthday: November 12, 1986 Height: 5'4" Previous Residence: Smallville, Kansas Castle Room: 715 (hardly stays there) Castle Arrival: August 2, 2010 Current Residence: A refurbished building in town. Occupation: A hostess at a fine-dining Italian restaurant. Attire: Lana's wardrobe often reflects her mood or intentions, but most of the time she keeps it to designer blouses, slacks, and dresses. When she's in a darker place, she tends to wear a lot more black. Abilities: Horseback riding, self-defense (some Aikido and Karate, and Wesley is teaching her more), and above-average skill with pistols and crossbows.
"I felt I had to choose between doing the right thing and being successful. Weird part is, I kind of enjoyed being underhanded."
Lana started out in the show as a seemingly normal girl who simply liked horseback riding and reading books, but as the series progressed we learned more and more about her past and the personality that had resulted because of it.
Her life had never been ordinary, despite being seen as the sweet and caring girl-next-door type in the first season. Her parents were killed by one of the meteors that showered down on Smallville when she was only 3-years-old. She was unable to get over her parents' death growing up, which is made clear by her choice to wear a piece of the meteor that killed her parents around her neck when she moves in with her aunt.
Because of the death of her parents, Lana had very large abandonment issues for a long while. Even though she was popular in high school, she never felt like she fit in anywhere, and she was always with a boyfriend, depending on him to make her happy. She felt like she couldn't be happy if she didn't have someone to trust, and for them to trust her back. Unfortunately trust became one of the biggest issues in all of her relationships.
She started out as a cheerleader in high school, but chose to quit that only three months in. Later, after getting fired from a coffee shop called 'The Beanery', she decided to open up one of her own, convincing Lex Luthor to restore an old theater that her aunt had decided to sell. She named it "The Talon" and worked there as assistant manager.
Her high school and short college years were incredibly turbulent, involving brushes with death from meteor infected humans, and countless make-ups and break-ups with Clark Kent and a couple other bad seeds. After one last break-up with Clark, Lana finally found comfort in Lex Luthor, who swept in at the perfect moment for a rebound that turned into a serious relationship. Just when Lana became very unsure and confused about her relationship with Lex, she found out she was pregnant, and Lex proposed shortly after. Still, she felt torn between him and Clark, still holding feelings for Clark despite everything that had happened.
Despite this supposed need for a man in her life, Lana also struggled to try to be independent in her own way. She learned martial arts from Lex so that she could protect herself, ended up managing a coffee house, and later sold that to go live on her own in Paris. Even while married to Lex, she was constantly trying to assert herself by finding charitable organizations to help support, even if Lex wouldn't let her support the one she wanted to.
She's also been shown to be rather ruthless and sneaky when the time calls for it, and we see a lot more of this during her marriage to Lex. She went above and beyond to discover Clark's secret on her own, blackmailed Dr. Groll into working for her while keeping almost as many secrets from Lex as he was keeping from her. Some may call this the Luthor Effect, and in part it is, but she'd shown signs of these traits long before Lex got his hands on her due to other people constantly betraying her trust. The billionaire's influence only seemed to cement the deal.
Still, even if Lana has made some poor decisions, she's always tried to do what she believed to be right. She wants to help out as many people as she can, and she doesn't really want to hurt anyone, but sometimes her tunnel vision can have horrible repercussions. Especially when she's been hurt or betrayed. As the saying goes, 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'.
Chloe Sullivan; — Lana's best friend. Chloe's someone she can confide in when she can't go to Clark, although their friendship has been strained since her marriage to Lex. In all honesty, their friendship has had several bumps and hurdles that while brought them closer, also keeps an invisible barrier between them keeping them from getting too close.
Clark Kent; — Her first real love, and someone who's been her biggest inspiration when it comes to helping people. Without her romantic feelings for him holding her back, Lana just thinks of him as someone she trusts more than anyone else. Although she remembers their hard times, she understands now why he felt he had to lie, and remembers their past fondly. Recently realizing what her loss was has made her feel somewhat awkward around him, but she doesn't plan on telling him. She's actually a little hurt that he never caught on to what her loss could be, or if he cares, given the timeline she's from.
Lex Luthor; — Her husband. B| After Clark dumped her, she went to Lex for comfort, as he'd led her to believe she could trust him more than anyone else (lol?). He proceeded to drug her (without her knowing obviously) to make her think she was pregnant, and his dad trapped her in a marriage with him when she tried leaving. Lex went so far as to set up a nursery and show her someone else's ultrasound to sell the deal. The fake 'miscarriage' was more than a little traumatizing, okay? Her feelings for him are complex, bordering on loathing and obsession. She continues to call herself a Luthor so that when he shows up again, she'll have a full deck of cards.
Lois Lane; — Lois definitely has a strong personality, and Lana's always respected her resolve. Sadly they don't get a lot of scenes together but they've always gotten along well whenever they did hang out. She thinks it's kind of funny that her first impression of Lois and Clark ended up being right. Things are constantly tense between them in Paradisa due to the elephant in the room, but Lana holds no ill will towards Lois. They used to be friends, after all. The small bit of resentment Lana might feel for her now is just because she feels lonely when she sees Lois and Clark together.
Oliver Queen; — The Green Arrow, and a good friend of Chloe's. She barely knows him in canon but has learned a lot about him from her time here. He took her to the dance at the 'high school' and allows her access to Watchtower, and seems good-natured. He's been a trustworthy ear when Lana had problems she couldn't go to Clark about, and she sort of helps him take care of a dinosaur.
These are people who she likes and will do her best to help them in a crisis. Some she trusts more than others.
Arthur; — THE Arthur Pendragon, apparently. She thought he was just a loon at first but has come to believe him since, what with how insane Paradisa has proven to be. He took Rapidash when she left before, and she's cool with him keeping it, so long as she gets the occasional visitation and ride.
Bruce; — Actually Hush masquerading as Bruce, but nobody can tell. It's obvious he's acting odd, but that can all be blamed on his 'loss'. Currently Lana's opinion of him is not high, which seems parr for the course this time, but the last time she actually respected him a bit more. He seemed less...daft.
Buffy; — Apparently this girl has super strength and who knows what else. She's nice, although Lana's a little wary because she's left and come back a couple times, and now it's just kind of awkward continuing to introduce herself to the same person.
Cross; — Met him on the plane loss, had dinner with him, and he bought her a beautiful sarong on a cruise. He seems nice enough. He's an obvious flirt, but it never really offends Lana.
Crowley; — She met him through Castiel, learning that they were a couple. After Castiel left, she tried cheering him up with some tequila, and has been helping out by regularly walking his dogs and helping with the litter boxes. For a demon, he's not so bad.
Damian; — Bruce Wayne's kid, and clearly a very messed up one. Lana's torn between maternal feelings for him and...a bit of horror at the way he talks about/treats people. In the long run she wants to help him. Things have been extra awkward since she married Dick. She worries that Damian now hates her.
Damon; — COMPLICATED THINGS. Sadly, sort of a Lex replacement in terms of emotional confusion, high stress, and border obsession. Without Lex around, it's been her main focus, but she doesn't really want it to be, which frustrates her hugely. She wants to hate him, but since he hasn't yet personally done anything to her, she still finds herself drawn to him. She couldn't explain it if someone asked.
Kat; — An admirable woman who's also a ranking soldier. She led the Mineas Well expedition, and Lana likes her initiative.
Nanako; — A sweet little girl she met during Thanksgiving. She'd like to get to know her better.
Rory; — A nurse, and also one of the previous Apostles during the Berserk Plot. Lana's aware of this and slightly wary of him, but since Lilith left he's who she'll go to from now on for medical problems. He's very cute when around his fiancée.
Wesley; — A 'Watcher', which she's slowly learning more about. It's thanks to Wesley that Lana's vampire knowledge has exponentially increased, and now he's actually training her like he would a Slayer twice a week. Both having saved one another's lives, Lana considers him an honorable friend. She still keeps things from him, but only when she thinks it's better for his safety. She also rents out a townhouse to him.
Xander; — Helped her construct her office/loft the last time she was here. She has the paperwork to prove it! He's a nice guy who likes video games and horror movies, but sadly once again, he doesn't remember her. It's getting awkward on her end. B(
These are people who she doesn't necessarily like or agree with morally, but understands it's smarter to remain amiable with them for her own purposes. It also helps her stay notified in case they do something devious, so she can respond quickly.
Stefan; — A vampire, and Damon's younger brother. At first Lana really liked him, despite knowing what he was. Unfortunately, he lost control of himself and bit her. Damon was the one to save her. Feeling stupid for being 'suckered' by Stefan (at least in her mind), she's not likely to begin trusting him again soon. And after the altercation with Wesley, right now she actually holds him in lower regard than Damon.
Zelman; — Ego-maniacal bastard with the occasionally insightful moment? Took extensive notes on him last time around, so she's seizing the opportunity to train with him again. This is also a way to keep an eye on him if he tries anything evilsauce.
These people are interesting and/or dangerous enough to have an eye kept on them, but she knows little-to-nothing about them.
Batgirl; — Met her after Arthas and Riful's massacre originally, and has remained casual ascquaintances with her since. They...hardly interact, really, but Lana's concern for Damian has renewed her interest in Stephanie's motives.
Joshua Christopher; — She knows about what he did to her the last time she was here, and that Clark is currently trying to figure how to stop him. Avoiding him at all costs.
Spider-Man; — Met him after Arthas and Riful's massacre.
The Doctor (Eleven); — Knowing that the Ninth Doctor has helped her out in the past, she's keeping tabs on this guy because she's sure he's just as helpful and useful.
