Nico di Angelo

Nico di Angelo is a complete badass demigod with slight antisocial personality disorder and the distinct aura of death and doom. Once upon a time (aka two years ago) he was an annoying little twerp who was obsessed with collectable cards, but the death of his sister turned him into angst-ridden force of darkness.

'Physical appearance: 5'4'. Unhealthily scrawny. Deathly pale. Dark brown eyes. Has shaggy black hair and tends to dress in all black. Wears an aviator's jacket and a silver skull ring. Not someone you want to see walk out of your closet at night.

Heritage: Half-Italian. Half-god.

Point in canon: Between The Last Olympian and The Lost Hero.

Loss: His demigod powers. No more shadow travel, no more raising the dead (not that the dead here need any raising). He's your average mortal kid. Well, for the most part.

PersonalityEdit

Nico used to be a totally annoying dweeb who asked way too many questions and was obsessed with Mythomagic, (which is kind of like the offspring of Yu-Gi-Oh! and D&D). No one really liked him except for his sister, Bianca, and even she got a little tired of taking care of him.

All of that changed when his sister died.

Nico emotionally aged about ten years overnight. He turned all bitter and vengeful, and pretty much hated the world for Bianca's death. He started roaming the countryside and hanging out with dead people. Nico felt that they accepted him more than other demigods would, because of who his father is.

Over time, Nico began to lighten up a little when he realized that human beings might actually like him. He's still dark and brooding, prefers to be alone, and seems to have little to no sense of humor, but he's considerable less paranoid about people being out to kill him now, and seems to at least grasp the concept of "friendship".

Just like every other demigod, Nico has dyslexia and ADHD.

CanonEdit

Not much is known about Nico's childhood, but a few facts are concrete: he was born in Washington D.C. in 1930s, to a beautiful Italian woman, Maria di Angelo and her lover Hades, god of the Underworld. Nico was their second child, which was pretty rare for a god and a mortal; his older sister, Bianca, was born two years before him.

ChildhoodEdit

Sometime during Nico's childhood, a prophecy (The Great Prophecy) was given by the Oracle. It stated that a child of one of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades) would decide the future of Olympus once they reached their sixteenth birthday. Zeus, trying to ensure a safe future for Olympus, told Hades that his two children had to be sent to Camp Half-Blood by a set deadline for training. Hades didn't like this, and decided to hide his wife and kids. This was a bad idea. When the deadline passed, Zeus blew up the hotel they were staying in, killing Maria.

After this, the kids' memories were wiped in the River Lethe, and they were sent to live in the Lotus Casino in Las Vegas - a hotel where time slows nearly to a stop - for the next seventy years.

The Titan's CurseEdit

So after more than half a century in a magical arcade, Nico and Bianca wind up at this boarding school in Maine. The siblings don't know it, but they're being watched by a creepy French teacher who's actually a manticore, and is going to kill them. Luckily, Percy Jackson and Co. show up in the nick of time and kick some manticore ass, with the help of Artemis and her man-hating immortal preteen Hunters, though said manticore manages to get away with Percy's girlfriend friend Annabeth and with Artemis herself.

The Hunters launch a Super Special Mission to go track down Annabeth and Artemis, and in the process coerce Bianca into becoming one of them. Nico is really pissed off about this, and about not being able to go on the quest, so he makes Percy promise to keep Bianca safe.

Of course this plan goes horribly wrong, and Bianca winds up getting electrocuted to death inside a giant robot. When he finds out, sweet little obnoxious Nico goes ballistic on Percy, annihilates some zombies, and divas out of camp, now holding a massive grudge against Percy.

Battle of the LabyrinthEdit

The next time we see Nico, it's in an Iris message sent to Percy by an unknown caller. Nico's chilling with the ghostly King Minos, and there's a bunch of creepy talk of death and souls. Percy gathers from the conversation that Nico is planning to kill him (Percy) to bring back Bianca. This turns out not to be true at all, however, as Percy learns when the two finally bump into each other.

So Nico finally manages to summon Bianca, and she tells him to get over his grudge, which wasn't really what he wanted to hear. But after the conversation Nico sort of drops his hostility towards Percy, and starts on the slow journey to become a more pleasant person.

Nico helps Percy and Co. for the rest of the book. He brings a bunch of zombie warriors to the Battle of the Labyrinth, and pretty much dominates, ending the battle with a total fanservice moment in which he almost dies.

The Last OlympianEdit

It's been a year since Battle of the Labyrinth, and Nico shows up at Camp Half-Blood to help Percy with some mysterious plan the two of them have put together to defeat Kronos. They hop on Percy's hellhound and prance off into the shadows. After a brief visit with an old frenemy's crazy mom, they head to the Underworld via a secret passage in Central Park.

The plan is to dunk Percy in the River Styx to make him invincible, but it all goes kind of wrong when some dead soldiers show up and throw Percy in the dungeon. After a few moments of thinking Nico was actually a douche all along, the little twerp shows up and rescues Percy, and they follow through with their plan.

Nico stays in the Underworld for most of the book, but reemerges during the Battle of Manhattan, with a shit-ton of undead warriors in tow. He proceeds to kick some serious ass, and is hailed as a hero when the whole thing is over. The last time we see him, he's directing some skeleton dudes in the construction of the Hades Cabin at Camp Half-Blood.

ParadisaEdit

Nico arrived in Paradisa on November 1, 2010. He had been putting the finishing touches on the Hades cabin, and enjoying the relative silence of the lull in action.

November 30, 2010 - Thalia, another demigod cousin from home, shows up. She doesn't stay for long, but gives them the sucky news about Percy being missing and junk.

December 21, 2010 - The castle thinks it would be cute to go all Nutcracker on its innocent residents. Nico is not amused. As appealing as fighting off an army of mice with a table leg sounds, the Doctor convinces Nico to join the trek to the Mechanics Room... where they find Candyland. Once again, Nico is not amused.

January 22, 2010 - Nico acquires a black kitten from an old woman in town. He names it Nero.

February 14, 2010 - Percy gets sent home. /angst BUT THEN

February 27, 2010 - Percy returns after only thirteen days gone. EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER, YO.

March 4 - 6, 2010 - Nico gets snatched by Slendy, and winds up sitting in mud for like ever waiting to be rescued. The whole thing only lasts 48 hours, but the nightmares last the whole month.
