Attire: He almost always wears a black suit with an un-tucked shirt, no tie and the jacket open (though you can notice that the jacket has a zipper rather than buttons). It appears to be a couple sizes too big for him. The only time you'll see him out of this is when he's being forced to, or he's undercover.
Speech Pattern: Most of the time his language is extremely casual, full of slang and a bit of a drawl. This makes him sound rather unrefined, but don't be fooled. In truth his vocabulary is pretty extensive (using terms like "jurisdiction" and "courier" in every day speaking) and he is capable of using more formal ways of speaking - he just chooses not to do so.

Family: Never mentioned, it can probably be assumed that they are either deceased or they aren't in contact.

Likes: Alcohol

Dislikes: Hangovers, Dragons, Math, Ties, Weak People, Uninteresting Jobs, Optimists, People who talk too much, Being sentimental, Elevators, Summons, Cutting vacations short, Nostalgia, Failure AND MORE. He's a bit neurotic

About a TurkEdit

Sometimes Reno does not watch where he's walking.
YuffAdded by Yuff
"Farewell. If we both survive... If we can save our lives..."

At first glance, it's not uncommon for Reno to be considered a bastard. He's cynical, sharp tongued, arrogant, jaded, cold and certainly can give an air of apathy and laziness. It certainly doesn't help his case that he could often be tied to some of Shinra's darker acts in the past, spending years of his life as the Turk that would commonly get assigned the darker jobs such as destroying city sectors and eliminating traitors. One might even understand a person if they were a fanatic to the cause, truly believing what they were doing and willing to give their life to the cause. But Reno couldn't be labeled one of those, by the latter point in his career with Shinra he seemed very content with treating it as a nine-to-five job, refusing to work extra hours even when soldiers needed his back up and simply walking away from orders when the company fell into disarray.

While Reno certainly is a bit of a bastard, as with most people in the world there is more that meets the eye. It's been heavily hinted that his more arrogant characteristics is actually a performance to hide a lack in self confidence. This shows up in times when he would go to Rude with concerns or the fact that he frequently chooses to be a follower of people like Tseng, Rufus and Verdot even though he's proven to be a very competent leader himself. The apathetic and lazy attitude towards things seems to be an act as well, shown by the way he throws himself into tasks and how hard he works in order to complete each task he is given (which can be argued from canon in Before Crisis is even further driven by a fear of failure). He certainly has a good amount of natural talent when it comes to his job, but those talents have been honed from years of hard work that he'll never admit to. When it comes to Reno, he is certainly a person that actions speaks louder than his words, which is possibly why a person like Rude (who has been shown to be extremely observant) manages to understand him so well.

Like nearly every single character in the series who isn't seen as pure evil, Reno has a bit of a guilt complex. It isn't as blatantly shown as other characters in the series (example: Vincent locking himself in a coffin for thirty years over girl troubles) but it appears in moments when he speaks to Rude about subjects around meteor or failing jobs. Unfortunately his method for coping is not thinking about it and moving forward until he gets a opportunity to make up for it. Considering this method led him to do things as agree to destroy an entire city sector, there are certainly flaws in the logic, but in the past couple of years of his life he's been working more towards redemption and fixing his mistakes - even he seems to never believe that he'll fully attain that goal.

Loyalty is one of Reno's main virtues in his arsenal. To earn Reno's friendship and trust is to earn it for life, to the point that betrayal is practically an alien concept in his mind. In a lot of ways, his world is simply the people who are in it and that's what truly matters to him. Forgiveness is rather easy to achieve with Reno, since he is someone who doesn't hold onto grudges for longer than a few weeks and is willing to work with people who have had a history of betraying or attempting to kill him (which is...pretty much everyone who isn't a Turk). He's also shown to be capable of doing kind acts, though they are often underhanded ones that he attempts not to draw attention towards for recognition (saving a possessed kid from Bahamut, allowing civilians take private supplies from Shina in order to survive after meteor fall; in a deleted scene from the original game it's even revealed that Reno was the person to show up at the bar and gave Tifa reason to seek out information from Don Corneo about the plans for Sector 7 being destroyed). For a character as loud as he is, he seems to prefer staying in the shadows when it comes to his life. Another ironic point that should be mentioned that even though Reno is the largest living killer in canon, he is possibly one of the most pacifistic characters in the latter years of his canon. Meaning he only gets into fights when he has to and seems to resent the idea of fighting outside those instances (he even gets frustrated at one point at the idea of needing weapons to protect himself from angry citizens). It's not to say he won't ever get into a fight or enjoys no part of it - but he'll certainly attempt to avoid it whenever possible.

On a lighter note it should be said that Reno has stated or shown a great number of fears and dislikes throughout canon. These include (but is not limited to) dragons, elevators, math, the cold, talkative people, slow jobs and screwing up. Even though he's shown to be nimble and flexible, he's seen as pretty clumsy as well- doing things like accidentally stepping on things and hitting people in the face who are behind him. He'll usually try to cover up these moments or pretend they didn't happen in order to save face.

AbilitiesEdit

It's said that Reno and Rude together have the highest mission success rate of any Turk, regardless of nature. Spying, fighting, kidnapping, leadership, assassination, gathering information - it's likely he's very adept in all of those as well as any other Turk task. He is a competent helicopter pilot as well, skilled enough to even pilot out of the Northern Crater without much trouble. In a sense, Reno is gifted at being a Turk and he works hard to keep a good reputation as well.

His true specialty among the Turks is his speed. Reno can move a lot faster than any other Turk, and faster than a normal human being when he chooses to. They never show his top speed, but it's hinted once that he managed to catch up to a motorcycle that was being stolen from the Shinra building. In addition he can take on multiple human opponents at once, BC frequently shows him fighting three or more against one and coming out the winner. His strength while weaker than other Turks, is nothing to scoff at - he's the one to carry Cloud and his giant sword from Midgar to Edge. He can also scale buildings in a matter of seconds, has an insane amount of endurance (the fight between him and Yazoo was said by Nomura to have lasted two hours), and can jump really high.

But his most impressive ability is the ability to kill with a stick. Seriously.

However despite at the end of the day, Reno is a human - and not even the strongest human of his world (damn you Cloud D< ). He has some neat tricks, but no real godmod powers. Anyone with superpowers could probably take him.

Official Stats Edit

(Taken from his final fight in VII~)

Level: 50 out of 99 (translation: he's at roughly of his 50% power potential. But the chances of him going any higher is VERY unlikely)
Hit Points: 25,000 out of 9,999 (YEAH, HE'S OVER NINE THOUSAND.)
Magic Points: 200 out of 999 (Not great - he can only cast cure or lightning spells a few times before he becomes incapable. Can only restore ability with sleep or ethers that cost a lot)
Absorbs: Lightning Element
Has no Effect: Gravity (THE ATTACK)
Immune to: Sleep, Return, Confusion, Silence, Transform, Stop, Berserk, Paralysis, Stone, Slowly Stone, Manipulate (mind control), Death (instant death attacks) (NOTE: these are all attacks. RENO DOES NEED SLEEP. You just can't put him to sleep.)

And with EMR equipped - he's been shown using these attacks:

  • Pyramid: A spell that encases a person in a yellow pyramid. When they are in this pyramid, they are unable to move or do anything. He can cast up to three pyramids at once. These can only be destroyed if someone who is not stuck in the pyramid strikes at it.
  • Electropod: This is FFVII fancy talk for...Reno jumping up and jamming EMR into you and tazering you with his weapon. It also has a good chance of temporarily paralyzing you for a few minutes that we will say depends on pain tolerance.
  • Neo-Turk Light: A big lightning ball that can confuse opponents if they survive the blow (which is strong enough to take out elevator doors >>). Pretty much if it works on you, I will say works with messing up your mind so it's impossible to tell who is friend and who is foe as well have the ability to think straight. Maybe you'll even twirl around like in the game. The only real good way to get rid of this (lets face it, the fun way) is...a swift hit to knock sense into you.

Also all three of those attacks are said not to take MP. sdfljkfsdjlkfsd

He is also able to use any materia that he happens to have. Though for the sake of things, I will just simply say that besides the abilities listed above, Reno has lightning-based materia only, and possibly a restore materia so my boy doesn't die, k?

Final Fantasy VII Edit

Reno knows OVER NINE THOUSAND characters in canon, so go here for his canon CR that's not in Paradisa.

Paradisa Edit

AHAHAHAHAHA NO OOONE.

NotesEdit

  • Yes, I consider Before Crisis, Last Order, Crisis Core, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and whatever-new-stuff-they-release canon. Deal.
  • Reno's backstory is never revealed in canon, at best it's only slightly hinted at in BC. And while there are hundreds of theories to what his past entails, several of which I'm partial with, I try to avoid to avoid headcanon if possible. So if Reno tells you something about his pre-Turk life - he's probably LYING.
