About Rin and Len
Edit
Prior to "Dark Woods Circus," Rin and Len have a background role in another song, called "Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness." In this song (the sort of prequel to DWC), they are not conjoined twins, but instead are separate and living in an asylum inhabited by the other children from the circus as well. They disappear from the asylum at one point, and when they appear once again, they are joined together. This implies that they were not born conjoined twins; however, once in the circus, they show no signs of remembering a life different from the one in which they are joined. The circus effectively brainwashes them.
In "Dark Woods Circus," Rin and Len are conjoined twins who serve as the barkers for the circus. They hand out flyers and draw interest, and also join the ranks of their friends in being sideshow attractions. When they aren't performing, they stay behind the scenes, spending time with their fellow "freaks."

Added by PinkcowThe story of Dark Woods Circus is loosely based on real Japanese circuses from long ago, in which children with birth defects would be kidnapped and forced to become sideshow attractions. Many times the children in these circuses would be burned with acid, either as punishments or to make them appear more "grotesque" to circus-goers. In the PV, acid burns are represented by flowers, and Len has a few on his face and neck, signifying that he has been burned at least once in the past. Rin, however, does not appear to have been burned. This is likely because Rin is more inclined to do what she is told than Len is.
Len is the more sorrowful of the twins; he is introverted and unhappy. He hates the circus and wishes he could no longer be a part of it. Rin, on the other hand, has more or less gone mad from her time in the circus. She believes it is a magical and happy place, and no longer sees it for the reality that it is. She considers it to be fun and enjoyable, and basically works as the polar opposite to Len and his feelings. Len tends to think very negatively of himself and his sister, focusing on the worst aspects of their lives, but Rin makes the most out of their situation.
Len, however, shows more compassion toward the other children in the circus than does Rin. He worries for Miku, and appears to be the driving force behind the twins' visits to her. He listens to her laments and plays with her hair in an attempt to comfort her physical and emotional pain. Most likely, he connects with her more deeply than does Rin because he has also been burned and scarred, as Miku has. Len, then, is more likely to grow close to those with a kind of trauma in their pasts that he feels he can share, while Rin has more of a chance of making friends without any deep reason behind her actions. Neither twin seems to have any memory of events from before the circus any longer. Although the circus has entirely shaped their personalities and warped their thinking, they have both turned out quite differently from each other.
All in all, these two are opposing forces who handle their past experiences in vastly differing ways. Together, they lean on the few friends they trust and cling desperately to the hope that someday they might be able to walk down the street, freely and happily.
