APPEARANCEEdit

Stephanie is of average height, and doesn't really look like a vigilante, be it Spoiler, Robin, or Batgirl. Not too tall and not too short, not too thin and not too muscular. Steph has an athletic build--sports and training under various mentors has given her that (at least), and it's not something she's ashamed to strut about in spandex. Speaking of strutting, Steph can be very graceful and do a number of flips, kicks, rolls... as long as she's not thinking about it too much. Otherwise, she can be sort of a klutz. It depends on the situation.

She has a round, friendly face, with blue eyes and blond hair. She's had about a million different hairstyles and lengths, but currently it's shoulder length and generally wavy--or just messy. Her clothing varies as much as her hair, but she generally covers up pretty well and dresses appropriately for the situation.

As Spoiler, Steph was decked out in purple an eggplant colored outfit with a black mask. As Batgirl, she keeps the color theme with purple ribbing on the sides of the suit.

When she was Robin, she totally had the cutest version of that outfit. Worn only for 70-something days :(

HISTORYEdit

EVERY DAY THIS WAS HER LIFE.

Stephanie was not raised in the most ideal of homes. Her mother popped pills, her father was a villain known as the Cluemaster, and they were pretty poor. Tired of her father and what his actions were doing to their family, Stephanie decided to stop him herself. So, she became the vigilante known as the Spoiler.

This led her eventually crossing paths with Batman and Robin. Stephanie's father was eventually put in jail (after Batman convinced Stephanie not to kill her father), though it wasn't permanent. He escaped, and Stephanie wound up working with Robin to stop him. Eventually, feelings grew between the two teens, and they started dating... with a catch. Robin knew Spoiler also as Stephanie Brown, but Steph didn't know Robin's real name was Tim Drake. He couldn't tell her for fear of threatening Batman's identity. Stephanie was actually fine with that arrangement.

... then, Steph got knocked up by her ex-boyfriend. Tim did his best to help her out, and was even there for the birth. After some flip-flopping, Stephanie decided to give the baby up for adoption. While this drew the two closer, it also made Stephanie want to know Robin's real name and who he really was. This led to some stalking and emotional outbursts.

Things came to a head when Robin was away on a mission and Batman was worried about what was going on with him. So, logically, he told Stephanie his real name. This did not go well. Tim was furious with Batman, and rightly so. While he went to cool down, Steph was trained by Batman, worked with the Black Canary and the Birds of Prey, and was also trained by Batgirl, Cassandra Cain.

When Tim came back from his little soul searching episode, the two started dating again. Batman later dropped Stephanie from training. Things got worse when Stephanie found out her father had died--and it was while doing something good. Tim decided to stop being Robin and live a normal life, and after Steph thought he was cheating on her, she went back to Batman--to be his new Robin.

Aaaand Batman accepted.

Stephanie was Robin for a good three months. Her run ended when she disobeyed orders trying to save Batman, and got captured in the process. Batman fired Stephanie from her position as Robin, and didn't even want her to be Spoiler anymore. This crushed Stephanie, who was determined to do something. So, she got into Batman's contingency plans and decided to use one in order to destroy the gangs in Gotham. This accidentally sparked a gang war that engulfed Gotham. While everyone was busy trying to control it, Stephanie was kidnapped by Black Mask.

She was tortured for hours (POWER DRILL HNNNGG), but didn't spill any information. Steph managed to escape and beat the crap out of Black Mask, but he pulled a gun on her. She wrestled it out of his grasp and nearly shot him, but at the last moment decided not to--Batman wouldn't want her to kill, and she had disobeyed him enough. However, her moment of hesitance gave Black Mask the upper hand, and he grabbed the gun, shot her, and kicked her down some stairs.

Somehow, Steph got to a hospital. Yet her injuries were fatal. She died with Batman by her side.

... but she was one of those people in DC that CAME BACK TO LIFE.

Stephanie's death was a sham, set up by Dr. Leslie Thompkins, who wanted to teach Batman a lesson about involving people in his battles. For a year, Stephanie recovered and worked in Africa, away from crime fighting and violence... mostly. After saving a village, Stephanie realized she couldn't just leave everything behind forever. She returned to Gotham, though she didn't immediately reveal herself to everyone.

Tim was not happy to see someone impersonating Spoiler running about, so he and Batman tracked her down... and found out it was really Stephanie. Tim had a moment in which his hormones worked and kissed her, while Batman said he suspected she was alive all along, so that's why she got no memorial in the Batcave. Riiiiight. Anyway, she was accepted into the Bat family, and went to tell her mom she was indeed alive. Tim wasn't really happy that Batman and Steph had lied to him, and things got worse when Stephanie tried to cover up Batman supposedly losing it on his behest. Though she did give Tim moral support when he went to go quit the Teen Titans.

Batman asked Stephanie to make Tim a better Robin, so that he'd be able to take care of Gotham when he wasn't around. Steph complied, AGAIN, and hired villains to challenge him. This didn't really go as planned--Steph got shot again, Tim was hurt in an explosion, and there was another gang battle. After everything was cleaned up, Tim confronted Steph--he found out she had been hiring the bad guys to mess with him. Furious, he told her to stop being Spoiler and left.

Of course, she couldn't just quit. She continued to fight crime. She and Tim sort of made up later. He apologized for being harsh, but he still believed she wasn't cut out for crime fighting, and that he was going to leave Gotham. The two parted on decent terms, though that wasn't the case when Stephanie was later sent by Dick to go check up on Tim, now Red Robin. Bruce's supposed death had Tim going down a dark road, and even Cassandra was shaken. So much that she left the Batgirl cowl to Steph and left.

Now, Stephanie was going to stop the crime fighting thing, since she was starting college and had promised her mother and Tim she would stop being Spoiler.

But she never said she wouldn't be Batgirl.

At first, Oracle, the very first Batgirl, did not approve of this. At all. But eventually, she saw potential in Steph and vowed to assist and guide her to the best of her ability.

While attempting to help a friend who was being attacked by masked men, Stephanie was shot. Yet again. However, the bullet just grazed her head.

Then she found herself in Paradisa. :)

PERSONALITYEdit

"A guy asked me a question the other day... about why people run when things get tough. That's easy--you can become someone else wherever you land, right? Who's gonna know the difference? So why stay? Why set yourself up for more failure? For more pain? Also easy--because we don't know how to do anything else. So why stay? Why open yourself up to all the bad you've tried to leave behind? 'The only variable you can control is yourself.' You can forget who you are, or you can be who you want to be. That's why you stay. You stay for a second chance."

For a member of the Bat-fam, Stephanie is amazingly normal. No one would ever think the happy, silly, spirited girl that sometimes has trouble keeping her internal thoughts internal spends her nights running around Gotham and fighting crime. Compared to the others, Stephanie is a ray of sunshine.

She likes talking...

Of course, she does have her issues. Stephanie has a lot of daddy issues. Her father did many things to hurt her and her mother, and Stephanie’s whole career as a vigilante started because she wanted to stop him. When he died doing something good, it rocked her world. She admits not ever loving her father because he gave her nothing to love, but even now she’s still conflicted as to whether he was weak or evil. Time has healed many wounds... but dads still leave a bitter taste in her mouth.

It doesn’t help that the next closest thing she had to a father figure in her life was Batman. Like with most youth Batman took under his wing for any amount of time, Stephanie was often confused, frustrated, and extremely thrilled to be working with a legend. It didn’t work out. Batman, as well as almost everyone ever, liked to tell Steph that she wasn’t cut out for the hero thing. But she ignored them all. Constantly. Clearly, she has a stubborn, defiant streak.

Before the events of War Games, Stephanie was eager to impress and didn’t often think before she acted. This caused a lot of problems in a business where following orders was the difference between life and death. After her “death” and return to Gotham, Stephanie matured a lot. While she knew the life she chose wasn’t a game, it no longer held the fun thrill. It became something more important, more serious. She wasn’t fighting for herself, or even Batman—she was fighting for the people of Gotham.

Despite having a rocky upbringing and a great deal of tragedy in her life, she's friendly, funny, and optimistic. There’s a lot she needs to learn as Batgirl. She can still be reckless, still take risks, but Stephanie truly does wish to protect Gotham so that kids don’t have to grow up and experience what she did. She’s a firm believer in second chances—whatever you put your mind to, you can accomplish. I will be lazy and quote Batgirl’s writer, Bryan Q. Miller: “Our goal is to take her to a place where it’s this young woman learning through the bat family, under the symbol of the bat, through Barbara Gordon’s experience and tutelage to step into adulthood, and to take on more responsibility in her life. And to not let herself be defined by the mistakes she’s made, but to use those mistakes as fuel to help others not make mistakes and make the world a better place.”

RELATIONSHIPSEdit

Oh, Damian.

CANONEdit

  • BARBARA GORDON (oracle) → Currently Steph's mentor--now one of the few who thinks Steph can be something.
  • BRUCE WAYNE (batman) → Old mentor, used to be his Robin. Effed things up and was screwed over by him, but hey. They're cool. Well. He's dead but w/e.
  • JASON TODD The second Robin. Steph's been warned to stay away from him, but curiosity killed the cat.
  • POWER GIRL Cool blonde B) Met her briefly as Spoiler.
  • SUPERBOY Tim's bro. Steph met him while she was Robin, and things didn't go smoothly.
  • TIM DRAKE WAYNE (red robin) Old partner, ex-boyfriend, awkward encounter...er. These two have a pretty intense history, but long story short: Stephanie messed up and lost his trust. She's worried about Tim now--and a little afraid of him, honestly. She wants to believe that the small acts of violence are just that and he'd never try to really hurt her, but... she's not sure about him. She wishes he would just talk to her, be honest... but she know she kinda lost that right.
  • WONDER GIRL Tim's bff and ex girlfriend. This is only slightly awkward.

PARADISAEdit

  • ALLEN WALKER Allen looks like... a young kid to Steph, but she doesn't see anything wrong with him running around the city and stuff, their first few moments of interaction aside. Steph isn't one to tell people to stop trying to do good or to stop trying to help. She thinks he's nice, but he needs to learn more about superheroes. She's definitely interested in the little vigilante!
  • ASANO RIN Steph automatically loves Rin for teasing Damian. Then, she gets extra points for being friends with Cass--she was really happy to see that Cass had at least some acquaintances when she got to Paradisa. Rin and Steph are birds of a feather, kindred spirits, etc. They're both dorky and failtastic. Steph thinks Rin really gets her and honestly understands her, which is nice after not having that for so long.
  • CARRIE KELLEY (robin) Holy crap another female Robin? Steph was immediately interested in the AU Robin, and even helped make her costume more awesome by making her a skirt :B She seems alright!
  • DUG A talking dog. Cute, but... A TALKING DOG.
  • KANDA Weird, quiet friend of Cass'. He can apparently regenerate. Would have been nice to know that before he got "killed." :|
  • RIFUL Haven't met or talked to her, but she's a flesh-eating monster. Uh oh. Got lost on the way to battle her.
  • TAKAMURA URU Cute little Japanese girl. After a rocky start (thanks, Damian), she's come to see her as a friend.
  • TERRY MCGINNIS (batman) Steph's first encounter of the AU kind. She and Terry get along pretty well, and she's come to see him as a good friend.
  • ZELMAN CLOCK A vampire. A vampire that messed with Rin. He's on her shit list.
