Prior to contact with humans, Tavros was a normal, albeit kind of wimpy, troll. He often engaged in EXTREME ROLEPLAYING with his friends until one session, where his friend Vriska used her psychic powers to make him fall off a cliff and become paralyzed from the waist down.
He later joins the Sburb session with the trolls, which causes their world to end and Earth to be made. His area of the game is the Land of Sand and Zephyrs, where he acquires a rocket chair which allows him to fly.
He also later has robotic legs built for him by Equius. Kanaya chainsaws his existing legs off and Vriska .... kept them. Wtf.
Tavros' first encounter with the human kids was an attempt to troll Dave via Pesterchum (aka AIM) on his birthday. Unfortunately, Tavros is not very good at trolling, so Dave ended up trolling him back and thoroughly grossed Tavros out, causing Tavros to block him. He attempted a comeback with some SICK RHYMES later on and while Dave completely ignored him, he seemed satisfied with his accomplishment.
He also attempted to contact Jade after (earlier in her life) saving her life by communing with her dog Bec, who used its spacetime powers to redirect the bullet that was aimed at her. Unfortunately, the bullet was redirected at her grandfather, who died immediately from being shot in the face. However, he considered the act to be quite heroic, thinking that her grandfather was actually a criminal invading her house, and did not understand the concept of a grandfather until Jade explained it to him. He seems to have a crush on her, which is unrequited for obvious reasons.
Finally, after Vriska reaches the God Tier, he engages her in a fight. However, he is entirely unsuccessful, and she stops his lance before he can touch her and stabs him through with it, dropping him off the edge where Terezi finds him. Terezi attempts to revive him, but since his dreamself is dead he cannot be revived. Permadead. :(
Tavros is just too damn nice to be a troll. It's said by Karkat that he's incapable of hating anyone, which is probably true. He gets along well with the other trolls because of his friendly attitude, though. He often gets made fun of for his shortcomings as a troll, and deals with it but speaking to his self esteem, which he has personified in the form of a bigger and more manly troll named Rufio. He is sort of like an imaginary friend. .... He's still kind of a pushover, but if you push him far enough he will snap. (Far enough being pretty damn far - he doesn't snap at Vriska until after she cripples him, bullies him constantly, and then supposedly causes Jack Noir to be prototyped with Becquerel, making their chances of survival extremely unlikely.)
He enjoys fairy tales and anything related to fantasy, his room being decorated with pictures of fairies, mythical beasts, and castles. He dreams of flying often, because of his confinement to his wheelchair. His hero is Pupa Pan, the alien version of Peter Pan. He also loves animals, and can communicate with them easily.
He seemed to have preferred living in the dream world in canon because he was able to walk around and fly freely without his wheelchair. He confided in Jade how disappointed he was that his dreamself was dead and he was no longer able to have fun there.
Trolls are born when adult trolls supply genetic material to filial pails (a regular human cleaning bucket is considered a somewhat 'pornographic' object, not unlike finding a sex toy lying around), which are carried by the Imperial Drone. This is then offered to the Mother Grub, who mixes all the material together and lays hundreds of eggs at once. Nobody knows how the trolls get their last names, as they generally have no idea who their parents are.
Tavros' Lusus, Tinkerbull. He's kind of like an alien chihuahua.
The eggs hatch into young larval trolls, who wriggle around to find a stalactite to spin a cocoon on. Once they grow limbs, the young troll is then put through a series of challenging trials. If they survive, they are chosen by a "Lusus Naturae", a (generally large and often terrifying) type of monster native to Alternia. The Lusus act as guardians for the young trolls, and the young trolls often take on the task of feeding and caring for the Lusus, as well as building a Hive (home) to house them. The adult trolls are generally off-planet participating in some sort of interstellar conquest. Because of this, the planet is almost entirely maintained by young trolls.
Trolls sleep in Recuperacoons, strange red cocoon-like objects that are filled with green slime. The slime, while nourishing during sleep, should never be eaten, and is used to ease the terrible visions that plague most trolls.
Troll anatomy is largely similar to human anatomy, though usually referred to by different names (such as bone bulge, chitinous windhole, protein chute, etc.). One major different in troll anatomy, however, is their blood color, which is used to define the troll's rank in the caste system on Alternia. Trolls can have just about any color of blood in the rainbow. Violet is the blood color of troll royalty, while orange/brown is the lowest rank (red is a 'mutant' color). Tavros' blood is brown, making him pretty much the lowest of the low. Troll tears are usually the same color as their blood, though more diluted in color. Lower trolls are more likely to have psychic powers, but are also more easily controlled by that same power. Higher castes tend to have more lavish hives and often more lavish clothing.
Troll romance is Very Complicated.
But here is an attempted summary anyways.
Troll romance is divided into four quadrants. All four resemble a similar type of human relationship, however humans generally don't think of most of the quadrants as related to romance. There are several different classifications of troll romance, relating to intensity, reproductive possibility, and color.
COLORS OF ROMANCE - Black (♠,♣) and Red (♥,♦). Black romance centers around hate, while red romance centers around pity.
INTENSITY - The "Flushed" Quadrant (♥,♠) involves more extreme/powerful emotions, while the "Ashen" Quadrant (♦,♣) is more tame/platonic.
REPRODUCTION - Concupiscent (♥,♠) relationships will lead to reproduction. Conciliatory (♦,♣) ones will not.
Of course, the 12 featured trolls in Homestuck are too young to really have settled on their final choice(s?!) in any quadrant, so they pretty much live in a state of perpetual confusion regarding romance. Troll romance does not discriminate by sex/gender, that is a completely foreign human concept.
mATESPIRITSHIP
Matespiritship (denoted by a red heart ♥) is the closest to what humans recognize as romance. It is based around a strong feeling of affection/adoration/love. Though, due to trolls being how they are, a courtship for a matespirit can be violent and end up flip-flopping between matespiritship and kismessitude.
mOIRALLEGIANCE
Moirallegiance (denoted by a pink diamond ♦) is also known as being 'fated friends'. Humans might see it as something close to a romantic friendship - the two trolls involved are fated to keep each other in line, and essentially be there for the other troll. It is a form of guardianship.
kISMESSITUDE
Kismessitude (denoted by a black spade ♠) is when two trolls really, really hate each other. So much so that there's actually a sexual attraction involved. It can't just be any hate, though -- platonic hate also exists, this is far more intense. Killing or defeating your kismesis is not encouraged, since without the kismesis, there can be no rivalry.
aUSPISTICE
Auspistice (denoted by a gray club ♣) is when a troll essentially becomes a 'mediator' between two other trolls who are attempting one of the three above types of romance. Generally, their job is to keep the relationship functional (and often keep it from becoming blacker than necessary).
Vriska Serket (♠/♥ double reacharound?!) Crazy chick that threw him off a cliff and left him paralyzed from the waist down. Somehow though, she still kind of likes him, even though she hates him, and she kissed him/has tried to seduce him into troll dating?! SO CONFUSING. He doesn't know whether he should like her or hate her.
Gamzee Bros. And by bros I mean they have a close troll friendship. They are the worst rap duo in the history of the paradox space.
Karkat Vantas Kind of mean to him sometimes, but that's just how he is. He's the troll leader!
'Kanaya Maryam Is nice to him. She gave him advice on how to cope with being more sensitive than other trolls, and because of her help he created Rufio, a kind of 'invisible friend' and personification of his self-esteem who he talks to in order to regulate his feelings.
Aradia Megido Used to play FLARP with her until his accident. Doesn't talk to her much/at all anymore.

Dave Strider Kind of uncomfortable around him. Tried to troll him, but Dave counter-trolled him with really weird, creepy sexual innuendo, which caused Tavros to end up blocking him.
