History and Background Edit

A Born Son of Sparda Edit

Vergil, like Dante, is a son of Sparda, and charged with inheriting the legacy of the greater demon. They were the half devil children of the human priest Eva, and the fabled Sparda. They were born into the world just before Sparda's life ended. As such, they were fathered more by a legend than the greater demon himself. And while Dante grew to resent his father and his legacy, Vergil seemed to embrace him and it.

It was at a young age were Vergil first became determined to inherit his father's legacy. He wanted to ensure the survival of his father’s legacy, and to do proud the memory of the greater demon.

Of course, like all childhood ambitions, plans change.

Death and Rebirth Edit

Upon their birthday, Vergil and Dante received a half of Sparda's amulet, the key component in the seal between the demon and mortal realms. Vergil also received the Yamato, an O-Katana. Shortly thereafter, demons attacked the Sparda family. Dante hid as per his mother's words, but Vergil took his blade and charged to help. As a result, Vergil's mother was killed in front of him, left to bleed to death in his arms.

He never heard her final words.

It was on that day, when she died, and when he could not find his brother, that Vergil changed. Gone was his ambition of living up to the legacy of Sparda, replaced for an endless quest to inherit power. A power to do what he could not now, no matter the cost to those innocent and guilty.

He died that day, and was reborn anew.

A Brief Meeting Edit

A year before he turned nineteen, Vergil encountered Dante. Just as his ambition had changed, so did the man himself. It was never explained what had occurred during their reunion, however it was clear that their encounter was not a pleasant one, and by the time it ended, the brothers were more enemies than family. Where there was once a bond of kinship now laid a hatred that ran deep.

It was also around this time that a man named Arkham was introduced to Vergil. The ideal plan was laid out, and Vergil's goal to obtain true power was finally beginning to take form.

Devils Never Cry Edit

Arkham helps Vergil to break the first seven seals Sparda cast upon the Temen-ni-gru, and then directs him to the Forbidden Land at the base of the tower. Vergil is later seen alongside Arkham at the top of the emerging tower, and when the Hell Vanguard they sent to kill Dante returns, having failed its task, Vergil immediately dispatches it.

Vergil waits at the top of the tower for Dante, and at one point dispatches Arkham to eliminate Lady. When Dante reaches the peak of the tower, the two banter and then ferociously battle. Vergil emerges victorious, and takes Dante's Amulet as his prize. Though Dante's Devil Trigger begins to manifest and Vergil prepares to fight him again, Arkham urges him to ignore Dante, and the two jump off the tower to reenter the Forbidden Land.

As Vergil and Arkahm approach the final door to the Sacrificial Chamber, Vergil reveals his knowledge of Arkham's betrayal, and deals him a mortal blow. He then enters the chamber and commences the ritual to open the gate to the demonic world. During this ritual, he is momentarily interrupted by a blinded Beowulf, who has mistaken him for Dante. However, Vergil quickly vivisects the devil, and takes his soul as a Devil Arm.

While Dante was hurrying up to the final seal, Vergil had no luck on unlocking the seal, and was later interrupted by Dante. The twins engaged another fight, which was interrupted by Lady. Although the battle ended with a tie. Both demonic brothers were equally wounded, and Jester makes his appearance by telling everybody has served their role nicely. Jester later turned back and forth between Arkham and Jester, explaining why Vergil's ritual was incomplete, and why Vergil has failed against Dante and Lady. Arkham completes the ritual, and then plays with the three warriors while waiting for the tower to activate. Once it does, he knocks them off the ascending platform, and Vergil falls into an abyss.

Later, after Dante enters the Netherworld, Vergil is seen passing through the Divine Library, with Lady still huddled up, wounded and in grief, after her battle with Dante. She hears his footsteps and looks up to see who it was, but by that time, he had already gone through the door that Dante took. Vergil later interrupts Dante's fight with the ascended Arkham, and the twins finish Arkham off together. However, Vergil has not given up his goal of obtaining the Force Edge, and the twins are again forced to fight. Though Dante is able to defeat Vergil, he cannot convince him to return to the Human World, and Vergil falls even deeper into the Netherworld.

Abilities Edit

As a half breed, Vergil is party to a natural boost to all traits, effectively categorizing him as a meta-human.

In addition, Vergil is extremely fast, first and foremost. Fast on the move, fast on the draw, fast fast fast. He's not speedster fast when it comes to long range traveling, but he can come damn near close to matching that speed in a combat oriented situation.

Vergil is capable of short range teleporation, and uses it to it's fullest effect in all situations. This teleportation extends to a rough radius of 25 feet.

On top of that, he has an incredible regenerative capabilities, to the point where even normally fatal wounds for most would be healed before death, therefore preventing death. However, this is generally harder to do in the middle of a battle, and as a result continuous injury will eventually overwhelm his system and kill him dead.

Finally, Devil Trigger. In this state, Vergil gets even faster, stronger, and tougher.

Personality Edit

To describe Vergil in a few words would be more than a little difficult due to the unique nature of his behaviors. To summarize, he is a cold individual that is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals.

Vergil is a cold and calculated individual. He knows what he wants, will take the most effective path to it, and will cut down any who so get in his way without a moment's hesitation. He shows no mercy to anyone that challenges him, be them human, demon, or otherwise. He shows little to no care as to the going-ons of anyone other than himself, unless they interfere with his own. Then he cares very much and very violently. He also addresses people in a cold and blunt manner, opting to stick to business rather than get lost in pleasantries. That does not mean he will not be cryptic at times.

One thing is that Vergil is obsessed with obtaining true power. For the time being, this is the power of his father, Sparda. There are any number of reasons for this, but the most likely one stems from a post-battle conversation he had with Dante after their first encounter. Vergil's drive to gain power is to due to a previous inability to protect what was important. By realizing his true potential at any cost, there is little to nothing he could not protect.

Vergil doesn't hate his brother. Rather, he hates the path Dante has chosen and associates it with him directly. His willingness to leave Dante alive after their first battle as well as his hesitation and, quite frankly, match throwing act after their final battle indicates that he may not be willing to kill Dante either. But he loves to fight his brother.

But perhaps the most important thing about Vergil as he stands is that, in many ways, Vergil is very much a teenager when it comes to his personality. Perhaps even younger. This is due long term isolation, where his own real companion was himself. Therefore, his personality is one that is still very much shaping itself, and will continue to in the presence of other, stronger personalities. Yet it is also at the point where certain traits, such as his cold and bluntness as well as his fixation on self betterment, are permanent facets of his personality.

Finally, he respects those that realize the true worth of power, and of its importance. And while he has only tasted defeat in an actual battle twice, he respects those that do best him in combat. (Unless, of course, you're a certain family member. In which case, he still does not like you.)

Relationships Edit

Canon Edit

-- Dante: As you may recall, Cain and Abel were brothers too. But Dante is his brother, even if Paradisa has messed that up, and despite their very opposing relationship, do not fuck with one and expect the other to ignore. And if you think either of them are hax separately, then don't ever fuck with both of them at the same time.

-- Arkham: Originally, a tool. However, after Arkham pulled an impressive fast one over Vergil, their working relationship took a turn for the worse.

-- Lady: Vergil regards her as a nuisance, but little else. However, since her arrival in Paradisa, Vergil has found her to be quite a bit more than just a nuisance. Somewhere in between passing her in the library and dying, she grew up a whole lot. Either that, or Dante has had a much larger effect on her than he should have.

-- Sparda: The father he knew by legend alone. Became determined to inherit his power. Held his father's legacy in high regard.

-- Eva: The mother that was taken from him. Hard to say really, but it seems highly likely that he cherished her. Vergil's obsession for power was a result of her demise during a demon attack. He cannot remember her face or her name.
