Stats
Edit

Added by Sylvia ViridianFull name: Yuan Ka-Fai (pronounced ka-fey or something), or Lord Yuan to everyone but his closest friends
Series: Tales of Symphonia
Race: Half-elven (the other half is human, just to head off any confusion) Note: Unlike most half-elves, Yuan's ears aren't actually pointed, although lots of fanart shows them that way.
Age: He's lost track, but something over five thousand years
Eyes: Green
Hair: A vivid light blue; long, usually kept in a ponytail, and with bangs on only one side that fall to cover his right temple.
Height: Around six feet or so
Physique: Wiry, and stronger than he looks.
Abilities: Yuan specializes in lightning magic, and wields a uniquely awesome double-bladed sword.
Sexuality: Bisexual, not looking.
Theme song: We Are by Ana Johnsson, Best of You by Foo Fighters
Tarot card: Justice
Alignment: Canonically, probably True Neutral. In Paradisa, he's begun to err on the side of Chaotic Good.
Personality: Cold and calculating; seemingly pessimistic, yet ultimately fighting for a better future, Yuan is what the mun likes to call a "cynical idealist". He’s distantly polite to most people, with a touch of dry humor underneath it, seeming eminently likable, at least until you get to the part where he's sharp and snarky. Beneath that, he’s cunning and calculating, always plotting the possible value of his assets and how much power he has. And beneath that, still deeper, he’s the truest, most loyal friend a person could ask for. He’s an idealist, always searching for ways to make the world better. He’s a realist, seeing the world for exactly what it is. And he’s a cynic, always ready to believe the worst of people. He’s deeply passionate about what he believes in, hiding this behind a distant mask that at once conceals his intentions and makes it harder for him to be hurt. What you're most likely to meet is a smart and snarky fellow with his own agenda and little tolerance for stupidity. Also very awkward around deeper emotions - he's more likely to avoid you than comfort you, unless he knows you pretty well, and even if he tries, he usually won't know what to say at all. He's getting better at this with practice, though.
Speech Pattern: Quirky and dependent on who he's talking to. He's fairly formal when speaking to strangers or acquaintances, shifting to surprisingly casual with good friends. He'll also match tones depending on the other person, especially if they have an archaic way of talking. When he's feeling agitated or emotional, he gets much more dramatic and flowery - 'they're a bunch of idiots' when he's calm becomes 'no more than arrogant fools' when he's genuinely upset.
Tropes: Chronic Backstabbing Disorder, Necessarily Evil Knight In Sour Armor (only because the Evil doesn't seem to be Necessary here - prepare for backsliding if it ever is), La Resistance, Anti-Villain, Good Is Not Nice, Light Is Not Good, Our Angels Are Different
Quote: "I always know what I'm doing. ...Sometimes, what I'm doing happens to be improvising, that's all."
History

Kharlan War Hero
Edit
This section is almost completely made up, as practically no information on this era is actually available. All that we know for sure is that the four traveled together, Mithos and Martel were born in Heimdall and kicked out at the start of the war, Kratos was Mithos' tutor, Yuan and Martel were engaged at some point, and Martel was killed by a human.
This section is inaccurate due to the mun's not knowing about certain parts of Tales of Fandom. It is relevant to how Yuan has been played in the past, but will not currently come up in conversation, or will be hedged around.
Yuan was born over five thousand years ago, about a decade and a half before the Kharlan War began, to parents who were both half-elven slaves. He hardly remembers them, as they were separated when he was only a child; he was sold off to another household. He grew up as a slave working for the Aurions, a family that was rising quickly in prestige and power. Although he was peripherally aware of the master's son Kratos from the age of six, he thought little of the human except to note that they were about the same age. This changed when the two were seventeen, and Yuan defied an overseer who was beating a young girl. This was hardly the first time he'd done such a thing, and he was to be put to death for it, until Kratos stepped in. He claimed that he wished to take Yuan as his personal servant, which made Yuan very suspicious - particularly since, once they were out of sight of anyone else, Kratos led him off toward the edge of the property. Yuan was certain he knew what 'services' would be required of him...and was thus very surprised when Kratos told him to go, run away while he had the chance. After a brief discussion, Yuan refused to leave, claiming a debt of honor to Kratos who had saved his life; in truth, it was because he had nowhere he could run to, but he would not admit this for years. This was the start of a new and much more comfortable period of Yuan's life, as he and Kratos quickly became good friends, although of course this had to be kept secret.
When Kratos came of age, he left home and began traveling, mostly to avoid the pressure his family was putting on him to join the army, as war had broken out between the two major kingdoms a few years back. Yuan, of course, was sent along with him as Kratos' personal property, a parting gift from his parents; Kratos officially freed him as soon as they were out of earshot, and from then on there was no need to hide their friendship. It wasn't much later that they encountered a young woman and her little brother, both half-elves, who had been kicked out of Heimdall (the village of the elves) at the start of the war. They were traveling the world in an attempt to promote acceptance between humans and half-elves. The young woman, whose name was Martel, was fascinated and overjoyed to see the close friendship that Kratos and Yuan shared, and it was soon agreed that they would travel together.
Thus the age of the four heroes was begun. They traveled all together for nearly a thousand years, their aging halted by special enhancement gems known as Cruxis Crystals. The war raged all through this time, despite their best efforts to end it, but the four of them worked together quite well as a group, a small family of their own making. During this time, Kratos taught Mithos everything he knew about wielding a sword, while Yuan trained him in the use of his magic; Yuan and Martel fell in love and were engaged to be married once the war ended; and Mithos made pacts with all the Summon Spirits of the world, as the Great Kharlan Tree, the source of the world's mana, was dying, making their journey ever more urgent. Finally, they had enough power at their disposal to force the leaders of both nations to come to an agreement and sign a treaty to end the war, before the Tree died completely. At last, the future looked like a bright one.
Naturally, this was when tragedy struck. At the treaty-signing, Martel was struck down by an assassin, hired by a noble from one of the countries who feared a loss of power once the war ended. In spite of all their efforts, Martel died there at the scene. The treaty was broken almost as soon as it was signed, the two sides once again drawing out all their long lists of old grievances, triggered by this new shock. Nothing had changed after all, and the three remaining heroes were shattered by the loss of Martel, the shining light that had bound them all together. Yuan retreated into his grief, becoming little more than an empty shell, while Mithos' mind snapped as he gave in to a growing hatred for humans that he had previously restrained for his sister's sake; this left Kratos to try to hold both of them together and attempt to deal with his own overwhelming grief at the same time. In an instant's time, the bright future they had envisioned was swept away by a single assassin's blade; an era of even greater darkness was now on the horizon, as Mithos, now the most powerful mage in the world, slipped deeper and deeper into madness.
Seraph
Edit
After the death of Martel, Yuan was a complete wreck. Martel's brother Mithos, driven mad with grief and obsessed with bringing his sister back, discovered that her soul wasn't gone; it was trapped in the Cruxis Crystal she had worn. All he would need to do was to find her a new body.
After a few years of work, Mithos devised a complicated and devious scheme. He would fuse Martel's Cruxis Crystal with the Great Seed, which was all that was left of the Giant Kharlan Tree at that point. The mana emanating from the Seed would keep Martel's soul from fading away. Next, to keep the Great Seed and the world alive - for the world at this point was dying of insufficient mana - he would split the world in half, binding the Great Seed between them. By using the Summon Spirits as mana conduits, the mana from the Great Seed would fluctuate in a controllable fashion; it would travel toward whichever world the Spirits were awake in, and that world would flourish.
Of course, the Spirits who were sleeping would need to be awakened periodically, switching the mana flow to the other world in order to keep it from dying completely. A child with mana signature similar to Martel's would be chosen to perform this task, by an organization Mithos had set up which revered Martel as their goddess, the Church of Martel. This person, and their descendants, would form the bloodline of the Chosen Ones, one bloodline in each world. These Chosen Ones would have their parentage carefully controlled in a breeding program designed to create a perfect match for Martel's mana, and thus a perfect new body for her to inhabit.
In the meantime, half-elves suffering from hatred and discrimination would become an organization called the Desians, banded together to persecute humans in the declining world and keep them subdued. The Chosen's journey, sponsored by the Church, would be touted as a journey to seal away the Desians, although in fact the Desians would merely migrate to the other world, where they could continue their depredations.
The Desians would have the added goal of harassing the Chosen so as to accelerate the angel transformation, and the Human Ranches were manufacturing sites for Exspheres, ability-enhancing gems which were more powerful once charged up with a living soul drained from a body the Exsphere had been attached to. Cruxis would then use these Exspheres as it saw fit.
In addition to all of this, the splitting of the worlds would separate the warring nations of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla. Because magitechnology, which consumes large amounts of mana, would be unusable in the declining world, its development would naturally be suppressed, another measure which would prevent further wars from breaking out.
In his rage and grief, Yuan went along with this plan for the better part of two thousand years. Eventually, though, he learned that because Martel was fused with the Great Seed, only one of them could survive. If the Great Seed were to sprout, it would absorb Martel's consciousness, but if she were to wake, she would absorb the Seed itself, the world's only source of mana. The choice Mithos was making, then, was his sister's life over the whole world...and Yuan realized that was something Martel would never have wanted. She would have given her life for the sake of the world, would never be happy if it died for her sake. His path, though painful, was clear: he would have to oppose Mithos, halt his plans, and allow Martel her rest. But because Mithos was so powerful, Yuan couldn't afford to oppose him openly. He needed to stay close to Mithos, yet at the same time find a way to thwart him. It was a disillusioned Desian that gave him the answer he was looking for.
Renegade leader
Edit
Coming soon...
Loss
Edit
Yuan has lost his angelic abilities, which means that he gets hungry and sleepy now, and basically behaves like a mortal. His Cruxis Crystal is still attached, however, and it acts like an Exsphere, so he's still stronger and faster than a normal person.
Notes
Edit
- Above all else, Yuan values freedom. He can't stand to be trapped or confined - he always has to have an escape route. The castle is fortunately large and varied enough to keep him from going totally nuts, but he'll never be fully comfortable as long as he can't leave.
- He respects idealism, although that will be tempered with disdain if you aren't smart about it.
- He likes tenacity, less politely known as sheer bull-headed stubbornness. Yuan is as stubborn as they come, and respects that in others as well.
- Intelligence is a surefire way to earn his notice, if not his respect. After all, while his friends are almost invariably smart, so are his most dangerous enemies.
- It's often easy to describe Yuan in terms of other fandoms; you could think of him as sort of a blend between Greg House (House MD), Rufus Shinra (FFVII), and Enjolras (Les Miserables - the leader of the student revolutionaries).
- As a lightning mage, and a powerful one at that, Yuan is notoriously unstable...particularly in isolation. He needs a friend, someone he can trust, to keep him on an even keel - or rather, if you'll pardon the pun, someone to ground him. (On a related note, there's almost always an earth mage somewhere in the Renegades' senior staff.)
- His sword retracts into the hilt when not in use. You may note that there isn't room for it, but hey, they have a magitech device to make their flying motorcycles fit into a space small enough to be carried with all their other gear, so a hammerspace sword should pose little difficulty.
- Also worth noting is that his moods can be a bit difficult to interpret, particularly his worse ones. It's important to remember, for example, that when Yuan is snappish and grouchy, that usually doesn't mean he's angry. When Yuan is angry, his words are cold and sharp and deadly calm. If he's yelling at you, chances are what he's actually feeling is hurt, frightened and/or vulnerable.
- Ka-Fai is the Elvish term meaning 'Half-Elven'; it's a common last name for slaves who don't have any other name to use.
- Kids seem to like Yuan for no adequately explained reason. He finds this perplexing and somewhat irritating.
- At current count, Yuan has two cats (Kat and Victor), a Bellossom, a floating rainbow fish, and a Tribble.
- Said fish does not require water, except occasionally to drink, and it eats whatever he cares to feed it, but it is apparently partial to chocolate chip cookies with bits of orange in them. As the fish appears connected with Delirium, Yuan simply accepts this. It drives the cats crazy trying to catch it.
- Martel was not Yuan's first girlfriend. When he was fourteen or fifteen, he rescued a slave girl about his age from being raped by an overseer, and they spent a couple months stealing what moments they could. Unfortunately, the same overseer later caught up to her when Yuan wasn't there to save her, and she hanged herself behind the slave barracks after he was done with her. Yuan's never told anyone about it since.
- It's something of a running joke that, due to his contact with Japanese teenagers, Yuan is aware that Japanese honorifics are important, but doesn't actually know what most of them mean. This leads to things like him calling Sealand 'Sea-senpai', and Kamina 'Kamina-sama', purely because he was introduced to them that way.
-
While Yuan is far from suicidal, and will actively try to live if given even the slightest opportunity, the thought of dying doesn't actually bother him any. It's probably an effect of how old he is.- Surprisingly, as of the spider plot Yuan has realized that this point is no longer true. He is not done with living, something he hasn't been able to say in a very long time.
Abilities
Edit
While Yuan no longer has his angelic abilities here in Paradisa, he remains a formidable fighter and magic user. To prevent confusion, his skills and abilities are laid out here.
Yuan still possesses his Cruxis Crystal, despite the higher functions of it being deactivated, and many of the enhancements it provides still apply. He's about twice as strong as he looks, and has enhanced reflexes, so he's able to dodge and block faster than an ordinary human.
Yuan is also a lightning-aligned spellcaster, and after living for so many millennia, he's honed his control and abilities to perfection. The capabilities this provides him with are listed below.
Electrokinetic Techniques
Edit
Yuan can manipulate electric-type mana in the air, gathering it to himself and moving charge around. In fact, this ability to gather mana is instinctive in half-elves, used as a natural defense mechanism; so if Yuan is feeling threatened, it would take more focus not to build up a charge. As a result, if he's already nervous and you surprise him? You're pretty likely to get shocked. Yuan's skin begins to smell like ozone as a warning sign when he's building up electricity in his body. He also has some techniques that use this generalized manipulation ability:
Lightning Orb: Yuan holds an orb of lightning in his palm, about the size of a large grapefruit. He can throw this to attack; the effect is about the same as being hit with a taser. More often, he uses it instead as a threat - while it isn't all that powerful, relatively speaking, it's pretty intimidating to look at.
Thunder Wave: Just like the Pokemon attack of the same name, this technique induces temporary paralysis by afflicting the voluntary nervous system. If he does it on the spur of the moment, it will last about five minutes; by focusing longer, he can extend the time up to about an hour. Paralyzed individuals can breathe and blink, but not speak or otherwise move until it wears off. Note that Yuan must contact the person physically, and preferably skin-to-skin, in order to use this ability.
Electrify: Yuan can run a small amount of current through his own skin without being injured. This can be anywhere from an odd but not unpleasant tingling sensation to a stinging zap. It also lets him show off by allowing sparks to dance between his fingers. The current can and will be transferred to any metal objects he's in contact with, which is useful in the case of swords, and less so in the case of portable electronics. -.-;
Thunder Explosion: An attack move channeled through Yuan's sword. When he stabs one end into the ground near an enemy, a spell circle of about five feet in diameter appears beneath them, and lightning strikes all around it.
Heaven's Wrath: An attack move channeled through Yuan's sword. Like Thunder Explosion, he stabs one end into the ground near an enemy, but instead of surrounding it with lightning, a line of lightning bolts strike one after the other, moving away from Yuan and knocking the enemy backward as they go.
Lightning Blade/Super Lightning Blade: Yuan strikes his opponent with his sword, and channels lightning mana into a strike upon the blade's tip while it's still connected to them. Super Lightning Blade also includes a burst of wind for extra knockback.
Spells
Edit
While the above techniques are more or less instantaneous, relying on his instinctive manipulation abilities, Yuan is also proficient in the casting of spells, most of which take at least a few moments to charge. The instinctive techniques mostly rely on his ability to manipulate mana inside and around his body. Spells, on the other hand, can be cast at longer range: the outer limit is probably about thirty yards. Spells also drain more mana, especially the higher-level ones, so Yuan has to be more careful in conserving them.
Spells Yuan knows are listed and described below, in order of increasing power.
Lightning: The simplest lightning spell, a single bolt of lightning strikes the target. It's not as powerful as natural lightning, though; an ordinary human hit with it would likely be left burned but conscious. Being such a low-level attack, Yuan can use this move more or less indiscriminately.
Thunder Blade: A targeted second-level lightning spell, a sword made of lightning hits an enemy, then smaller bolts zap outward in about a ten-foot-radius. An ordinary human hit with the brunt of the attack will be badly burned and semi- or unconscious; the smaller bolts are less powerful, about like a taser. A small but measurable drain on mana, it can be cast several times, but not incautiously.
Indignation: One of Yuan's signature attacks, and a third-level targeted lightning spell. A ten-foot-diameter spell circle forms beneath a single target, and a light shines down from above. The target in the center is then hit with lightning from all directions, moving inward from the outside of the circle. Others within the circle are also hit, but less damage is done. An ordinary human targeted by this spell would be mostly or completely dead; an indirect hit would leave them badly burned and semi- or unconscious. This spell can only be cast a few times before Yuan will need to rest.
Indignation Judgement: The most powerful lightning spell in existence. A spell circle about thirty feet in diameter forms underneath the target, and the target is struck by lightning bolts several times; then a giant sword made of lightning mana falls directly on top of them, and a final, even larger bolt of lightning is channeled through it, into the target and outward to the edges of the spell circle. A human targeted by this spell would be charred beyond recognition; being caught in it except at the very fringes would leave them in critical condition if not dead. Yuan can only cast this spell while in overlimit, and it leaves him drained.
Yuan also has three support spells, listed here.
Charge: Transfers some of the caster's own mana to the target. The mana expended this way is much greater than the mana gained, though, so the spell should be used as a last resort - it can be very dangerous if the caster gives more mana then their body can handle, such as would be necessary if the target was suffering complete mana drain.
Energize: Amplifies the impulses sent by sensory nerves, essentially making the target hyper-aware and able to react faster to stimuli. The effect lasts about two minutes tops, and the overstimulation can be painful if not dulled by battle adrenaline.
Magnetic Barrier: A personal shield, about six feet in diameter, covers Yuan and possibly someone standing very close to him, for about a second and a half. Mostly useful to avoid a single, powerful blow.
Over Limit
Edit
Over Limit is a condition in the Tales Series games in which a character becomes temporarily more powerful, sort of like a limit break in Final Fantasy. It's triggered by supercharging an Exsphere with battle energy, so it'll only happen when emotions are running high. In the game, it's indicated by the character's Exsphere shining brightly, then a black aura all around them - I'm interpreting that to mean that the energy field it produces sort of bends light in odd ways. Being in Over Limit is the only way Yuan can cast Indignation Judgement.
Relationships
Edit
Mostly up to date now, let me know if I'm missing someone.
Symphonia
Edit
Rodyle: As a Grand Cardinal, Rodyle is technically subordinate to Yuan. Yuan dislikes him, and considers him extremely untrustworthy; however, he does have his uses, as the Renegades have been manipulating him into doing their bidding, in game canon. Is now dead, in Yuan's memories, but he took Botta with him. >|
Kvar: Another Grand Cardinal. Yuan and Kvar have had an abrasive relationship all along, each tending to think of the other as a fool. Yuan dislikes Kvar's raw ambition and callousness toward the lives of others. (It's often said that when two lightning mages are in the same place, sparks will fly one way or another. In this case, the sparks are definitely negative.) Also dead, by Kratos' hand. Good to know he finally got his revenge.
Magnius: Another Grand Cardinal. As far as Yuan is concerned, Magnius is a brute and a fool, and he tends to be dismissive toward him. Dead at the hands of the Chosen party.
Forcystus: Probably the only Grand Cardinal with any real sense, as far as Yuan's concerned. Still doesn't care much for his beliefs, but he has more respect for Forcystus than for any of the others, especially in his role as leader of the soldiers under his command. He has occasionally wondered what would have happened if the Renegades had found him first. Died at the hands of the Chosen party just after the False Tree Incident.
Pronyma: Yuan also has some respect for Pronyma, but he'd have a lot more if she wasn't so fiercely and unthinkingly devoted to Mithos and his ideals. Other than that, and the hatred of humans that goes along with being a Desian, she's not all that unreasonable.
Mithos Yggdrasill: His leader and former friend. Yuan treats Mithos with deference while actually in his presence, but has long since accepted that the idealistic young boy he once knew has been replaced by a monster. He's done his mourning for that person, at least in theory, and now mostly allows himself to feel contempt, anger, and a sort of detached horror toward Lord Yggdrasill. Mithos' example is a warning to Yuan about how easy it is to lose oneself in tyranny if never opposed, and as a result, Yuan tends to surround himself whenever possible with subordinates who will speak their minds.
Martel Yggdrasill: Mithos' sister, Yuan's fiancee before she was killed. Yuan was devastated at her loss, and even today isn't entirely over his first love, although it's been four thousand years. Like Mithos, her opinions and ideals still influence many of his actions, but Mithos' idealized memories are of an older sister who was more of a mother, a person who had the power to make everything better, just like the Goddess he turned her into. Yuan also has idealized memories of her; but what he remembers most clearly is how much she loved all the world, even when it hurt. It's that memory of love that allowed him to break Mithos' hold and resolve to choose the world over Martel's life, just as she would have done. Despite his lingering feelings, though, he's no longer the person who loved her all those years ago, and things can never go back to how they were before.
Kratos Aurion: His best friend since forever. Kratos still believes in Mithos, which frustrates Yuan to no end, especially when he sees how numb and fatalistic his old friend has become. Whole essays could be written on the complexity of this relationship, but the most important thing to know is that Yuan cares quite deeply about Kratos; he has difficulty showing it, but he'll always do his best to protect and care for his friend. In the last few months of Yuan's memory, he's been repeatedly forced to hurt and betray Kratos anyway.
Botta: Second-in-command of the Renegades, and also a good friend of Yuan's. Yuan trusts Botta, probably more than he trusts anyone else at this point, even Kratos. Dead at Rodyle's ranch. >:
Zelos Wilder: The Chosen of Tethe'alla provides information to the Renegades on both Tethe'allan politics and Cruxis' doings. Yuan doesn't trust him, or particularly like his flippant attitude, but considers him a valuable asset. Continued reporting when he joined Lloyd's little circle of friends, letting Yuan know exactly what they were up to and occasionally allowing him to lead them into traps.
Sheena Fujibayashi: An assassin hired to help them kill Sylvarant's Chosen, Yuan doesn't really know her all that well. Is vaguely annoyed that she not only failed her mission, but joined Lloyd's party. Still, he can't be sure he wouldn't have done the same; Lloyd is like that.
Colette Brunel: He knows her name, as she's Sylvarant's Chosen. It's unfortunate that she will have to die for their plans to succeed, but it's for the sake of the world. Fortunately - at least up until now - Yuan doesn't need to sleep at night, so his conscience keeping him awake hasn't been an issue. Became much less of a priority in comparison to Lloyd, after she lost her soul at the Tower of Salvation.
Lloyd Aurion Irving: When he was three, Yuan was 'Unca Yuan' to him. Like Kratos, Yuan thought Lloyd was dead for fourteen years, and was surprised to discover him alive and well...and infiltrating the Renegade base in Sylvarant. Ever since then, Lloyd has been a thorn in Yuan's side, even while Yuan kept trying to capture him for use as blackmail against Kratos. This nearly succeeded, until everything went horribly, horribly wrong...
Regal Bryant: Bryant? Wasn't there some kind of scandal about a noble of that name a few years back? The guy went to prison for something like what happened with Kratos and Anna, and later on somehow ended up joining forces with Lloyd. Huh.
Presea Combatir: One of Lloyd's little friends. Sources say she was part of the Angelus Project. Fffff.
Raine Sage: Unlike most of Lloyd's friends, Raine actually seems intelligent enough to be worth talking to.
Genis Sage: Raine's bratty little brother. Kind of annoying, really, but something about him reminds Yuan of himself when he was younger.
Paradisa
Edit
Yuan likes knowing people, having contacts, and generally being in the thick of things. He tends to stalk lots of people if he thinks they have influence, and he's been here nearly four years, so he can be expected to know a little bit about a lot of people. There are more people that he's vaguely aware of than could possibly fit on this list, but this is a decent list of the people he'll recognize either by face or by name.
Family
Edit
You are under his protection at whatever cost. Yuan would die for you without regret - and perhaps more importantly, trusts that you will keep his secrets.
Protected
Edit
These are the people that Yuan doesn't necessarily trust with his deep secrets, but considers under his protection anyway. Mess with these people at your own peril. (And yes, he's quite aware that most of the people on this list don't actually need his protection. He just doesn't care.)
Allen Walker: A strange young man with a fate similar to Vergil's when he returns home. Yuan's interested in keeping an eye out for him, he seems like a good kid. They tried to put a Cruxis Crystal on him to suppress the demon inside, with disastrous results.
Colette Brunel: The Chosen of Sylvarant is here, and the only thing she seems to remember or care about Yuan trying to kill her is 'You were working really hard to save everyone'. Yuan's not sure what to make of that, or of Colette in general, but after they talked some, he couldn't help feeling like he wanted to protect that innocence. Despite his better judgment, they're building a closer friendship.
Delirium: Romeo's girlfriend before he left, and apparently the personification of insanity. She calls Yuan 'Thunder'. He has a few faint memories of the time spent in her realm, long ago when he ran from the world and hid inside himself. She's gone and returned and forgotten everything, but Yuan still likes her.
Django: A friend of Romeo's before he left. They talk sometimes. Helped Yuan with the Bacchus Memorial Performance, then saved Yuan's life when he got nommed by Buffy on her vampire loss. Yuan's making an effort to look after the kid as a result.
Lloyd Irving: Kratos' son is back. Even if he doesn't remember, Yuan is going to look after him like the good not-uncle he is.
Likes
Edit
Being on this list means he cares to some degree about your well-being.
Anthony J. Crowley: A demon from a world in which demons are actually fallen angels. Yuan doesn't see what's so bad about rebelling against Heaven, and actually thinks Crowley's pretty cool. Does not know (but suspects a little) that it was Crowley who lopped off his ponytail. They antagonize each other whenever they talk, because it's that kind of friendship.
Asano Rin: The bright young woman spearheading the outpost project. Awfully young, but she has Yuan's full support in that. The more he learns about her, the more he likes her, and at this point all it would take would be some in-depth conversation to bump her up to Family status.
Eleventh Doctor: Despite a rocky start during the Spider Expedition, Eleven has more than proved his worth as a friend and ally since then. Yuan is officially a companion of both Doctors now.
Felix Harrowgate: A human mage who decided nearly as soon as he arrived to start a magic council. Snarky and good-humored, he's the leader of Chimera, and although he's not easy to get close to, Yuan likes him.
Fifth Doctor: Is back again! Seems happier this time, and Yuan is glad. Whatever his timeline is, Yuan likes the Doctor, but particularly Five. He's been a great support through the various trials and tribulations of the castle, for which Yuan is forever grateful, and Yuan is officially a companion.
Freelancer Washington: From the same world as York, Wash is a part of the Patrol now, and Yuan's glad to have him since on previous visits he was always found making himself useful in a crisis.
Freelancer York/Delta: Helped with Dalek Caan when he went crazy. Yuan talked to York once soon after York arrived, and York got very upset to hear what Cruxis had done, which made Yuan kind of avoid him. Lately they've been getting to know each other better, between mutual friends and Patrol involvement. He's also the guy who runs the CastleNet. Yuan is not very aware of Delta as a separate entity, although he knows Delta exists.
Ray Stantz: In charge of the Peace Patrol's supernatural division, and maintains a spiritual capture unit in headquarters. Ray is reliable, if terribly optimistic and a bit clumsy, and Yuan likes him in spite of himself.
Sakura: A healer ninja from Ino's world, whose loss is her voice. She joined the Peace Patrol once they started accepting new members, and has since made herself useful by managing the budding court system. Yuan is impressed with her willingness to take on responsibility.
Sylvanas Windrunner: Undead elf-lady! A skilled archer, with a good head on her shoulders, and apparently understands quite a lot about discrimination despite being an elf. Probably has something to do with the undead thing. Despite her more ruthless outlook on strategy, Yuan considers her a useful ally.
Teresa: She annoyed him when she arrived, but after some stalking, it looks like she just has a very dry sense of humor. They've talked more and more over the months, and Yuan's come to appreciate her calm, good-natured wit. Being a fellow half-breed, he seems to consider her something of a kindred spirit. He is also going to completely deny that he had a little bit of a crush on her when he was on his twentyish!loss. This may not have entirely gone away; when Yuan gets angry and frustrated at the world (which happens a fair amount), Teresa just has to tell him 'chin up', and everything seems brighter. He admires her ability to go through seemingly anything and still come out calm and faintly smiling. Needs to poke her more now that he's recovering from the loss of Kratos.
Vereesa Windrunner: An Azerothian elf, one of Sylvanas' sisters from before Sylvanas became undead. Yuan was wary of her at first, but she seems quite kind, and admitted to having half-elven children of her own after learning Yuan's heritage.
Interesting
Edit
If you're here, he's watching you to see whether you would fit on the above list...or the Dislikes section.
Anders: A human mage from a world where mages face discrimination. How interesting. Painfully idealistic, but bears watching in case he turns out to be decently heroic.
Clark Kent: He's useful in pretty much any crisis, and he's really a very nice person, which doesn't stop him at all from rubbing Yuan the wrong way whenever they talk casually. Yuan's respect for him has been growing consistently, but he still avoids Clark outside any professional context.
Faith Lehane: When she was here before, she was very close with Reno, and kind of fell apart after he left. Yuan hasn't re-established contact with her yet.
Faye Valentine: They met during the Spider Expedition, and despite himself, Yuan kind of likes her. Hasn't been keeping in touch lately, though, or he'd be aware that she and Crowley are dating.
Gabriel: An angel from Castiel's world. Actually has a sense of humor, and helped out with Slenderman. Yuan thinks he's funny.
Ino: Medical ninja from the clinic, formerly Vergil's girlfriend. Honestly, Yuan finds her a bit shallow and flighty. She's part of the Peace Patrol, too, but other than that Yuan isn't usually paying her much attention.
Varian Wrynn: A human king from Azeroth. Came in and almost immediately started trying to order around the Patrol - Yuan took quick steps to assert his authority. Very close to being bumped onto the disliked list, but Yuan's willing to give him a little bit more of a chance...
Zelman Clock: A capricious, sociopathic vampire with some kind of powers over fire, and the castle only knows what else. Someone to watch, but he usually doesn't make big trouble. Seems to know everyone who's anyone on the morally-bankrupt side of the castle population.
Acquainted
Edit
People he's met, but isn't particularly paying much attention to.
Peter Petrelli: Was connected with Chris, but since then, Yuan has mostly stopped paying attention.
Dislikes
Edit
If you're here, you've done something to offend him or his sensibilities, and he's keeping an eye on you because of it. Either that, or you're really annoying.
God: Proving his masochistic streak, when God arrived in the castle, Yuan told Him off, and will continue to dislike Him purely for being God, even if He's admitted that Yuan's world isn't one of His.
Joshua Kiryu: ...Smart, manipulative, seemingly innocent, and strongly reminds Yuan of Mithos. Yuan's beginning to not mind talking to him too much, so long as he's not hurting anyone. Found a memory of him being an ass during the memory week.
Gone
Edit
People who have left but who Yuan remembers for some reason.
Mint Adenade: A nice girl, seems awfully innocent. He appreciated the information she shared with him about her time.
Arche Klaine: At first he was a bit annoyed by her overly-casual demeanor, but he warmed up a bit when he learned that she was a half-elf, and more so when she mentioned that the elves in Heimdall had threatened to kill her. She's not too bad, really, just a bit bratty.
Soren: A fellow logical mind. Yuan didn't know much about him, but appreciated the way Soren didn't seem to let sentimentality get in the way of doing what's best.
Botta: They were lovers in Paradisa. Yuan was devastated and enraged when he vanished.
Rufus Shinra: Yuan spoke with him about potential government in Paradisa; he seemed both intelligent and slippery, and Yuan wanted to know him better.
Alexiel: An angel from another world, organized a sort of coalition of angelic beings while she was here.
Claudia Wolf: Good riddance; her talk of a dead goddess who must be revived struck a little too close to home, and she will not be missed.
Rodyle: Left Paradisa, and there was much rejoicing.
Kvar: Also gone, good.
Magnius: Manageable on his own, but gone is even better.
Forcystus: Whoa, are they all leaving?
Pronyma: Yup, all gone at once. Sweet.
Walter Sullivan: Left without directly causing trouble, thank goodness.
Phoebe Halliwell: Some lingering sadness that Chris' aunt has vanished, but Yuan's also a bit relieved because he felt so awkward around her.
Ruby: An intelligent dragon? Spoke with her briefly after she helped Kid-Chris out. Hn, gone, too bad.
Terra Branford: Maybe it's just as well; she was too much like Martel for Yuan's comfort. She'll be better off at home.
Auron: A newcomer he greeted. Smart, seemed to have caught on quickly. Spoke like Kratos (akfjdkjfk).
Rodney McKay: A smart guy in more than one sense of the word, Yuan liked him because he seemed smart enough to be worth talking to. They didn't talk as much the second time he was here, though.
Chrestomanci: Guy with a lot of lives who knows about interconnected worlds. Huh. Too bad he's gone, Yuan thought he was interesting.
Hamlet: Gone again. Yuan's more unhappy about that than he lets on.
Sixth Doctor: Entertaining in small doses, too bad he's gone.
Nero: The person Vergil wanted his sword given to, should anything happen; it did, the next day. Yuan still doesn't understand how they were connected.
Riku: Met him while Chris was on kid!loss and Riku was trying to convince Chris that they were friends. A bit of a cocky brat, but not bad. They met again after Riku got reset, during the Heartless plot, and Yuan discovered that the kid's a good fighter.
Nolan Grayson: Superhuman with a twisted past, his guilt in those events obviously weighed on him. Yuan liked him instinctively, possibly as a surrogate Kratos.
Martel Yggdrasill: Came back for a while and things were better than the last time she was here, but then she left again before Yuan could finish remaking her flute. D:
Piper Halliwell: Yuan has Chris' memories of her being 'Mom', and had a hard time dealing with that. It's just as well she's gone home.
Macbeth: Part of Bacchus. Yuan doesn't want to admit to missing them.
Star Tyrian: Young man who didn't like that the cityfolk had to pay for the carnival when the residents didn't; Yuan helped him sneak them in for free.
Puck: The other member of Bacchus. Too bad about that.
Jan Valentine: EPIC HAET. Good riddance.
Sheena Fujibayashi: Gone again, too bad.
Sam Winchester: Cute kid, Yuan knew him early on. Asked a lot of questions that Yuan willingly answered, to show off. They'd drifted apart by the time Sam left.
Lady: She hated Vergil, and stopped Yuan from killing him once (at Vergil's own request). Yuan never quite figured out what was up with that.
Setsuna Meioh: They never talked much, but she was important to Vergil.
Nagisa Kaworu: Nice young man who helped to calm Yuan down during his child-loss, a favor Yuan repaid when both needed a date to the Yule Ball in HP plot. Never did find out his true nature, sadly.
Tsuzuki Asato: Magic user who helped when Yuan thought Chris might be cursed.
Romeo: Bacchus' leader, and a close friend to Yuan in spite of some ups and downs and general abrasiveness. He taught Yuan to fly on A-Ts, a skill Yuan is now passing on to others he knows. He was a part of the second memory exchange with Chris and Hamlet. With his return home, Yuan is the last remaining member of the little family they'd built.
Chris Halliwell: The first time he was here, he was like a son to Yuan. The second time, that old relationship made interacting very awkward. Yuan's sad to see him go, but at least this one had a future to go back to.
Paige Matthews: One of Chris' aunts.
Wyatt Matthew Halliwell: Chris' big brother. This was the one that wasn't evil, and Yuan actually liked him in spite of himself.
Aziraphale: This place seems to like angels. Too bad he's gone now.
Lambo: Some hyperactive little kid who kept talking to Yuan. Grew on him against all odds, but Para is no place for kids.
Alice: Person from the future of his world. Apparently not to be trusted, so Yuan feels no remorse that she's gone.
Second Master: Good riddance.
Zelos Wilder: Keeps coming and going.
Tenth Doctor: Was sort of a castle landmark for as long as Yuan's been here. They didn't talk much, but Yuan's dismayed to see him go.
Vergil Sparda: Yuan's friend almost since he arrived, although Vergil at first saw Yuan as a way to power. Yuan essentially bullied Vergil through faith and tough love into becoming a better person, and he was very proud of the results, in spite of the pain he knew it caused Vergil to go through that process. This is one person he will never forget, so long as the castle allows him to remain here. Like Chris and Romeo, Vergil was family.
Fifth Doctor: Yuan's favorite Doctor. They're a lot alike in many ways, sharing similar views, and Yuan respected both his independent mind and his compassion, even when it was given to people Yuan didn't find deserving of it. He will be missed.
Euphemia li Britannia: A young woman who adopted one of Yuan's kittens. She reminds him a lot of Colette, and he's quickly developing the same kind of protective feelings. Never actually knew she was connected to Lelouch, oddly.
Ninth Doctor: Yuan liked him. :(
Lelouch Lamperouge: Kratos' adopted sonthing. He helped Yuan and Kratos get together, and both of them now miss the kid.
Arwen Undómiel: An elf, of mixed blood, and a good person at heart. Relations between humans and elves in her world are much better, the way they should be.
Emil Castagnier/Ratatosk: Aselian kid collecting the Centurion Cores, bonded to Ratatosk. Raine has vouched for Emil's good nature, but that won't stop Yuan from trying to be careful around the vengeful tree spirit.
Kratos Aurion: They were lovers for over a year spent in the castle. His leaving very nearly broke Yuan completely, and it took months for Yuan to recover.
Lloyd Irving: Kratos' son. Earned Yuan's respect as a hero in his own right while he was here, alleviating some of Yuan's bitterness at not having been the one to save the world himself; Lloyd deserves the honor more.
Aerith Gainsborough: A young woman who reminded him far too much of Martel; they even met in the garden, where Aerith succeeded in ordering Yuan around quite effectively. He'll look out for her if and when she ever comes back.
Princess Azula: Intelligent, practical, arrogant, and utterly heartless...he could call her an angel, but it wouldn't be a compliment. Yuan was too out of it to notice when she left, and still isn't sure if she's gone or just lying low.
Reno: Snarkbuddyyyy. D: They were good friends while Reno was here, and Yuan tried to rekindle that the second time, but now Reno's gone again. Yuan will probably always feel that loss, even if he didn't react much.
Billy Kaplan: Superhero kid, but a tolerable one. Yuan liked him.
Castiel: A dour and over-serious angel from a world in which angels are actually servants of God. Reminded Yuan of Kratos just enough to inspire amused affection.
Raine Sage: Lloyd's teacher, and one of his companions. Yuan grew to like and respect her quite a lot during her time in the castle, and was even harboring romantic feelings for her, which he was just getting up the courage to act upon when she left.
Oliver (Ollie) Queen / Green Arrow: A skilled archer, and part of Team Four on the Spider Expedition. Yuan would have liked to get to know him better.
Death the Kid: OCD kid, part of Team Four during the Spider Expedition. His behavior annoyed Yuan, but he was competent enough when he wasn't freaking out.
Alucard: A vampire, part of Team Four during the Spider Expedition. Really weird, but able to keep a cool head, so Yuan respected him.
Tasslehoff Burrfoot: A small nonhuman (Yuan never did learn the name of his race) and part of Team Four on the Spider Expedition. Despite all odds, Yuan actually kind of liked him - partly due to the reminder of Romeo, and partly because despite his noisy nature, Tas was competent and self-sufficient.
Beth II: A very kind motherly type who Yuan met on his second kid-loss. He always feels awkward around her because he's not used to genuinely nice people, but he does like her. Has come and gone twice now.
Tony Stark: He was smart, and had a cool magitech suit of armor, and was the go-to guy for engineering projects in the castle. Yuan officially took over the Peace Patrol when he left.
Dante: Vergil's rude, arrogant brother. They didn't get along, but Yuan was never quite clear on whether that made Dante a good guy or not.
Booster Gold: Screwed things up during the Wild West plot, although Yuan knows that was really everyone's fault, but Booster's also a blustering, self-centered idiot as far as Yuan can tell, and Yuan was never inclined to hang around long enough to figure out if he had a good side.
Superboy-Prime: A childish bully with superpowers, who at one point held the castle in sway because there was no one who could beat him up.
